I love me some Spike Lee so you know I had to get a photograph when I spotted Kaepernick's fro from down the street --and then I discovered more street art

"That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing."
Martin Luther King, Jr.
Perhaps the world needs more Spike Lee Joints like "Do The Right Thing" (1989) to learn this little lesson ... I don't know ... and who am I to blow against the wind ...

In 1998, a huge mishmash of a movie dropped into U.S. theaters. Spike Lee's He Got Game, a disjointed story of making it against the odds, anger, love, betrayal and redemption, isn't the best movie I've ever seen, but it is one of my all-time favorites.
The most notable thing about He Got Game is that its featured star, playing the character of Jesus Shuttlesworth, wasn't an actor. At the time of filming, he was a rising young shooting guard from UConn playing for the Milwaukee Bucks.
I've been a fan of Ray Allen's since his days at UConn. Why? Because if you looked up "perfect shooting form" in the dictionary, it would refer you to any one of the millions of jump shots Ray Allen has taken in his 8-time All-Star NBA career. You'll never see it done any better than he does it and you'll never see it done as consistently as he does it. He's also one of the classiest pro athletes you'll find in the U.S.
Last night Ray Allen won his first NBA Championship. Enjoy it, man...you've earned it.
Richard Price's new novel Lush Life is just out. He wrote the book "Clockers" which was subsequently made into a movie (a Spike Lee joint) and was the basis for the HBO series The Wire. He contributed to several episodes of The Wire. The "G'nite moon" scene was right out of Clockers, I believe.
Price recently spoke at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco. Very interesting and entertaining man. He lives in New York (setting of Lush Life) and speaks like he lives in New York. He also wrote the screenplays for "Sea of Love" , "The Color of Money" and "Shaft" among others. An amazing talent!
The filmed adaptation from the David Benioff's novel of the same name. Set in New York, a convicted drug dealer named Monty has one day left of freedom before he is sent to prison. Anger, blame, frustration, betrayal, guilt and loneliness are themes on this last day of friends, family, parties, saying goodbye, and setting things straight. A Spike Lee joint.
We have nothing against Mr. Lee*, we just don't love most of his work. But this new vodka from Absolut is tasty and charitable**, so we're cool with the Spike Lee contribution. Also, did you know Spike Lee was from Cobble Hill? That basically makes us his neighbor and extremely skeptical of his "street cred."
*Well, those Pizza Hut ads were out of line, ESPECIALLY for a Brooklyn native. Karen tried that pizza and it was an abomination. Let's be real, he is basically a sell out . . . but I mean, we're not here to judge the man.
**Yes, we already purchased. And proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity in Bed-Stuy.
"Champagne for my real friends, and real pain for my sham friends..."
*this was the other film, another great spike lee joint, it´s one of those that just makes you wonder about some choices you make in yor life...dont fuck it up...

There were many crues out filming documentarys in the Lower Ninth. One of the people in our group says that when he asked for directions Spike Lee turned around and answered him.
