The sphere in Salzburg's Chapter Square is a modern art sculpture by the German artist Stephan Balkenhol. It is a golden sphere weighing at least two tons, on top of which there is a standing man.

For the Macro Mondays challenge: Sphere. Area shown is about 58mm wide.

Baoding Balls are metal balls small enough to hold in one hand, used for physical exercise and therapy. They are also known as Chinese exercise balls, Chinese health balls and they produce a pleasant chiming sound when they are moved.

My favourite type of Canon balls...

This is a sculpture called ‘Sphere’ by Rob Mulholland next to the Coquet Shorebase at Amble in Northumberland. It is part of a project known as The Bord Waalk (‘Bird Walk’, in the local accent), which is part of a new walking trail of public sculptures inspired by the bird-life found around the Amble coast.

Large and small spheres and their reflections.

Technical info:

This is a one-exposure image of two spheres: a clear glass marble and a 3" crystal glass ball. The spheres were placed on a piece of aluminum sheet metal. The aluminum sheet was placed on a 24" x 24" piece of semi-translucent acrylic, which was in turn placed on top of a [pro]master VL1144 steady studio light aimed vertically up at the ceiling and used as a tabletop.

The theme for “Smile on Saturday” for the 5th of March is “sphere on black”. Looking at the theme in my dining room, I immediately thought of the Art Deco column lamp standing atop a china cabinet next to me. A gift from my mother some Christmases ago, the chrome lamp has its original Art Deco spherical ornamental shade with its undulating geometric designs. I hope you like my choice of the theme this week, and that it makes you smile.

I love round, shiny things. Got this beauty a few months ago and finally brought it out to play. I was just experimenting with it, but I actually was pleasantly surprised how this one turned out. The day was supposed to be partly cloudy, but in good NC fashion, wait 5 minutes and the sun comes out. And true to form, direct sunlight makes it difficult to handle glass spheres. Now, I see why there are little frames for them. My husband kindly held the sphere for me for this shot.
