Hung Out To Dry...

This past May after an early morning walk in the neighborhood, I happened to walk through some muddy puddles in the field where I was taking photo's and my shoes got quite dirty and wet.
Once home, I had to hose them down and hang them to dry. Afterwards I took this shot, edited it and never gave it another thought.
Then the other day I saw someone post a very similar shot which I really liked and thought It was time to post the one I had taken in the spring.

There is something extremely satisfying about framing a shot on ground glass. Rolleiflex 3.5F Planar taken by a Nikon D700 with 50mm f/1.2.
If I'm going to continue hiking, I seriously need appropriate gear. Starting with footwear. My usual Sperry Topsiders are great for wet boat decks, not as good on sandy rocks... Should I buy walking shoes (my knees don't want me running..;)) or hiking (country walking...;)) boots?
I'm going back tomorrow with the right socks on...;))

Every time I wear these shoes, I leave piecec of sole behind. The rubber sole is crumbling away.
The soles are also very slipery on hard surfaces such as tile or terrazzo floors. So I have to watch my step!
These are labeled as women's size 9 1/2, larger than I usually wear. But they don't feel large because they are a little narrow and some of the inner lining has come loose and is jammed in front of my toes.
Picked up these Sperry Authentic Original (A/O) in the iconic Sahara colorway for cheap. Perfect all-around shoe.

so I'm starting my 52 wks and taking Cassidy's advice of a different theme for each month. so it'll be like mini series within one big series. My first 4 photos/month is going to be self portraits, because I'm really unhappy with the way mine have been turning out, so this is my challenge month to improve them! so advice is crucial for this month so hopefully each weeks SP will be better than the last!
hmmm i should stick with converse. sperry's just look odd on me.
1/23/2013 :: Favorite Shoes
Right now, these Sperry Top-Siders are my favorite shoes to wear. So comfortable, I'm pissed I never knew about Top-Siders until just recently. I'll definitely be buying more of these in the future. Lots of great styles.

Strobist: SB900 thru 28" Westcott Appollo cam left about 1 foot away from shoes at 1/8th power. SB600 cam right into collapsed reflective umbrella at 1/16th power also a foot away from shoes. Speedlights triggered via Cybersyncs.

Yes, I am wearing my Greek Captain's hat! in La Jolla, California... La Jolla means The Jewell in Spanish. It is the jewell to me... I lived in La Jolla man years ago, and I still look back fondly on it and I miss it A LOT!!
Southern California's coastline is perfect for me in many ways... I love oceans, beaches, sea cliffs, harbors, lagoons, and inlets, islands and peninsulas... San Diego County has them all... Ooh, wait a minute. I don't remember an actual island there. And there is no boardwalk...;)) But the pier in Oceanside is wonderful... Southern Cal is still perfect!!! LoL

i'm going to nantucket in august. i've never been up north, really (to canada once or twice and to boston for a few days in the winter). this is probably because i hate the cold. however, there is a very good chance that i will be going sailing with my dad and his friend for 3-4 days (really i just want pretty photos!) and sailing means...boat shoes! now, which to choose? :P
note: inspired in part by a photo i saw of a girl standing in one pair of shoes out of a line of options. sadly, i can't remember where i saw it, so i can't link you :(

My latest warm weather "bicycling" shoes. Just cool breathable cotton canvas and no laces (which can make pressure spots on the top of the arch), these casual "boat shoes" can be nice with simple Touring style pedals. And, if these get wet they will dry very quickly - much faster than leather.
Sperry has made their "Topsider" boat shoes since 1935, and I've worn various models of their laced styles since the early 1960s. Wish I'd thought of trying these for cycling before.
This slip-on Oxford style is similar to "Vans" slip-on skate shoes... another possiblity for cycling use.
