I spent the evening in Mill Valley with friends and it's always nice to come home to the Golden Gate Bridge, like a big pair of arms welcoming me... (I know that sounds sappy!)

Don't worry -- I wasn't driving!!

I spent an hour at Monrepos this morning to meet the squirrels. They were happy to see me as there was no food in the feeders and my nuts and sunflower seed were very welcome. The squirrels were very entertaining but it wasn't the best morning for taking photos as it was foggy and rather dark. The cuteness of the squirrels will have to make up for the lacking quality of the photos. :)

I spent a great deal of my time here in the winters with my sleigh and toboggan, using the so-called 'hills'. When I was a teenager, I was hired to maintain their plastic plants (!) for the summers.

I spent a couple days in northern Minnesota and was fortunate to see some northern lights.

I was kind of surprised I wasn't able to see the colors with my eye until I checked the display on my camera.

Per Wiki...Auroras are the result of disturbances in the magnetosphere caused by solar wind. These disturbances are sometimes strong enough to alter the trajectories of charged particles in both solar wind and magnetospheric plasma. These particles, mainly electrons and protons, precipitate into the upper atmosphere (thermosphere/exosphere).

The resulting ionization and excitation of atmospheric constituents emit light of varying color and complexity. The form of the aurora, occurring within bands around both polar regions, is also dependent on the amount of acceleration imparted to the precipitating particles. Precipitating protons generally produce optical emissions as incident hydrogen atoms after gaining electrons from the atmosphere. Proton auroras are usually observed at lower latitudes.

Spent a mesmerizing hour or so with a family of Brolgas at the Western Treatment Plant yesterday (otherwise known as the Poo Farm-a birders paradise). These birds are listed as Vulnerable in Victoria and are often spotted at the treatment plant. Despite having seen them a number of times, it always feels so special, like the birds are sharing a secret, just for you.

The treatment plant has a series of ponds, with tracks around them that you can drive along. The grass was long and mostly all I could see was their striking red and grey heads pop up from the grasses. I got out of the car and walked along the road a way in front, hoping they would walk in my direction to this little pond.

That way it was their choice as to whether they were OK with me being there.

Turns out it was my lucky day!

Spent a wonderful and very funny evening with my great work colleagues at Top Golf in Oberhausen

We spent a few days on Benewah Lake, Idaho over our holiday. I was intrigued by this trestle, and the railroad tracks which run through a tunnel on the other side of the lake.

They say the train runs once a week at unpredictable times. A few locals fish from the trestle and I've heard if the train comes, you simply 'hang' off the side until it has passed. Umm sure... sign me up.

Have a nice rest of the week. I hope to catch up with all of you in the next few days.

Spent a few hours walking around Tohono Chul Park. Lots more people there today and a lot fewer birds. This phainopepla was in a tree in the parking lot over our truck.

I spent a lot of time photographing this building a few months back and I've already posted a couple of images of it but one more image if I may. I do so like the shapes in this building, those rounded exteriors are exquisite and the glass in the right hand tower reflecting it's neighbour is what makes this for me.

This shows the very top of a couple of the towers but in fact there are around 25 floors in the highest towers so there are around 15 floors below what you see here. I've got a few shots of the whole complex comprising all the towers, taken with a wide angle lens, but the distortion is quite apparent and in my opinion not very appealing.

Posted to the Sliders Sunday group as the sky in this was replaced with one of my own skies.

Spent a very nice evening at Ninepipe, in Charlo, Montana, watching the sun go down as it played off the tall grass and the Mission Mountains in the background.

Spent part of my Sunday walking through the wonderful beech forest at Ekedalen. This shot is made by 4 portrait photos stitched together to get a wider shot and to make sure at least parts of the tree tops are visible. It was my first visit there, but for sure not the last...

I spent about 3 hours standing in the rain yesterday waiting for the thunderstorms to pass over. The first one came and went without any joy but as the second came though I heard a few rumbles then the rain came in pouring down over Loch Lomond. I would like to say this is one image but sadly trying to catch lightning during the day from previous experience is tricky so instead I filmed it on high res video until I had a strike. Then took some stills and blended the lightning into the shot from the video so I had a higher quality image.

Spent amazing two weeks in China in September. A lot of emotions and impressions. Here is the picture from one of the most beautiful parks I've ever visited - The Summer Palace in Beijing.

Thank you for all the comments and faves, my friends.

I spent the entire time taking this photo... Worried she was going to trip down those stairs...

A friend of mine needed a replacement profile picture after I took hers awhile ago. Since then she's got a new look, so it made sense to need a new photo!

I wanted to try and keep it a little more minimalist with this one. Her old one was a lot more edited. Overall, I like how it came out and I think the color palette is good!

I've spent the last five days at my friend's log cabin on a lake in the Adirondacks.

There are some other "camps" on the lake.....but not too many.

Some people have motor boats. My friend has a kayak, canoe and a "pedal pontoon". We move it by pedaling ......a lot!!

And we still don't look as slim as the neighbor. ;-)

But it was perfect summer weather. Hot, sunny and we spent a lot of time not just on but in the lake. And I spent a bunch of time in the woods.

It was a wonderful few days.

Hi everyone,

I have spent much of the summer in South-East Asia on vacation but also sneaking in a bit of photography when time permits. While it hasn't been the normal genre I focus on, it has still be a great time with some very satisfying results. I will get some of that content up over the coming months.

For now, here's an image from Costa Rica of a Keel-billed Toucan. What a great country for birding!

On this day in 2016 I spent a wonderful morning at Birds of Eden in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa. Birds of Eden is a unique two hectare dome (the world’s largest) that spans a gorge of indigenous forest. Currently it is home to over 3,500 birds from over 220 species, with the main focus on African birds.

This little beauty is a Purple Glossy Starlings (Lamprotornis purpureus) - also simply known as Purple Starlings - they are fairly common in tropical Africa, where they are considered common to abundant within their natural range.

I spent almost the whole November in Antarctica on a mission to shoot the polar landscapes and give presentations to a group of photo hobbyists. This is not a ship dedicated to do photography, so I squeezed my time everywhere, on the deck, on zodiacs, and on kayaks, with my Pentax 645Z, my Nikon D800 and even with my ZTE cellphone. This picture was shot from a kayak trip with my ZTE cellphone, it may be not high-res, but it renders every details of the iceberg very well, another example of low end equipment with excellent result.

spent an hour on dirt roads trying to find a nice Platte River overlook… never found it.

Spent some SL time with my RL bestie Miss Blazin Aubret. Love her to the moon and back!

Spent several hours shooting the Kemah Boardwalk at dawn and early morning.

Spent some time in DC for work this week and had just a few free moments in the early morning and explored along the river for some not so normal DC monument captures.

I spent Thanksgiving in Driggs Idaho. It is the Idaho side of the Grand Tetons. If you look closely, you'll see a little glimpse of the mountain peaks. Hopefully our next outing will have a few less clouds.

I spent a lovely few of hours with a new friend at Lanyon Quoit (ancient buial chamber) on Saturday night. Our goal was to photograph the rising moon between the legs of the quoit, but this proved to be more difficult than it had seemed as there was a lot of cloud cover. Instead, I did some startrails looking north with the stones lit by the moon.

I’d like to dedicate this shot to a good friend of mine William McIntosh. I have spent the last 4 months shooting as much as I can with Bill and trying to gleen info from him about his weather prediction skills and gain some insight about his frame of mind about photography. He is a master of weather prediction IMHO and I have always admired his tenacity which has netted him some absolutely fantastic captures from Yosemite National Park and the Pacific Northwest. Bill contacted me during the week to see if I was up for a Banzai run to Yosemite Valley as he was predicting a passage in the storm which would provide a high probability of misty/snowy conditions like seen in many of his postings from there. Of course Bill was right on the money as was shown from some of the webcams provided there. But unfortunately I had to decline as I was starting to get sick with the Flu and didn’t want to drag him down with me. Today he contacted me again to see if I was up for some shooting at Corona Del Mar but I was still trying to fight off the Flu and as painful as it was had to opt out again. Later, today, as I was digging through my folder of processed photos I found this shot and the pain of declination returned. Sorry Bill, I was more worried about getting you sick then worsening my own condition. LOL. Thanks for the invite my friend and hope you had a great day at CDM. If you would like to see William’s amazing photography, you can visit his stream here.

Tale of the Take…

This is a side view of the arch found at Corona Del Mar, If you wanted to get a full view through the arch you would need to scramble along the cliffsides base there at a specific tide level, I say specific because if you time it incorrectly you wouldn’t drown but you would have to spend a long, cold night on the rocks or call the Coast Guard to come “fish” you out which carries along an $800 dollar or better rescue charge. I’m still hoping that Bill will show me the specifics of entering here at a time that would be safe to enter and exit during the sunset. See what I mean about his tenacity. :)

Please come over and check out my other photos, you might find something else you like. :)

Spent today with Aaliyah at Westhay. Lots of birds to see, I think we counted 38 different species though the course of the day including the drive in and out. Good views of a couple of bitterns, kingfishers and marsh harriers at North hide and a Bearded reedling on Daggs lane drove.

I spent a few days recently traveling to and hanging out with the Ospreys.

Now, these Ospreys are big, powerful, and graceful. Many of them have gotten used to people…but not too much. They prefer to coexist, from some distance; often giving real dirty looks if you break into their personal space.

This series of Ospreys come from two places. Lake Toho in Kissimmee, Florida; about 6 miles from my house, and Merritt Island, about an hours drive.

Hope you enjoy them even a smidge as much as I have shooting them. There will be some shots with prey. Sorry in advance for any shots that may be too graphic. Ospreys diet consists of 99% fish, and I can handle seeing a fish much better than “other” types of prey.

I spent a couple of days just going around to little lakes in Northern Vilas County Wisconsin with their shorelines ablaze with the colors of the tamaracks. Being in a canoe the view was breathtaking to say the least. My wife Marshia took these pictures to show the beauty of this lake as I saw it from the canoe. It was like canoeing in Paradise.

I spent a wonderful evening with my oldest daughter and generally I try to avoid the crowds that gather in the crossroads of the world, i.e. Times Square but my daughter had to stop at her daytime place of employment which is there in Times Square. Very proud of my dear daughter and while I waited for her I snapped off some frames, always interesting to see how the former Longacre Square evolves, certainly many more displays since my last time there, another skyscraper in the location of a theater, though my daughter tells me the new edifice will include a theater. I spent an hour with this Northern Hawk Owl last week and then left it to do its thing...in the time that I was with it it changed position twice and ended up moving to this perch, nestled amongst these Spruce Cones near the top of the tree...I suspect it was getting a free back scratch while it was there....we don't see these very often, one or two of this Boreal species of owls will usually make a brief appearance this far south in the Ottawa area. Fortunately I have been able to see one or two of them every winter for the last few years.

Spent a day one the Moore's yesterday, and came across quit a few of these little beauties'.

Thanks for the visit Guys, All your comments and Fav's are very much Appreciated.

Twilight hours in the desert of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India

Spent time at NYBG yesterday. And this Indian lotus swayed and fluttered with the breeze. It was so calming to watch.

Spent the past week on vacation at a cottage on Crystal Lake, north on Bobcaygeon Ontario. We were fortunate to have some great weather and were treated to a couple of spectacular sunsets during our time there.

Thanks for viewing and have a great day :)

Spent a cracking time in Berlin.

It was flipping cold but ultra cool... ;-))

Spent the weekend camping at Cape Lookout. The moon was setting to the right the lighthouse really brightened everything up.

I spent Sunday morning roaming the San Mateo County coastline between San Gregorio and Pigeon Point. My objective was to collect wildflowers. Well, not really collect them in the physical sense, but to gather them in a photographic manner. I wasn't disappointed. Our recent rainy winter coupled with the moist foggy summer days, has given us a bountiful collection this year.

I found a February surprise as I checked my garden for signs of spring. My Pulmonia ground cover was blooming :)
