I spent a gorgeous afternoon at the top of Spencer Butte. At 2,058 feet (627 m), Spencer Butte is a prominent landmark in Lane County, Oregon just outside the Eugene city limits.

A shot from a few years ago, taken from Weeroona Island just north of Port Pirie facing north across the sparkling calm waters of the Spencer Gulf in South Australia.
This man seems to be eveywhere from time to time. He appears in different costumes around my area. You see him every day for a week or so then no sign for a few weeks. Anyway - I was listening to this wonderful song by the great John Martyn and thought of him.
Wheeling 712 is nearing Spencer as they cross 162 west of town. In Spencer they'll set off the grey engine along with about 1/3 of their train that consists of Brewster cars and then put the three "tigers" back on the stone cars heading to Copley and continue east. Spencer, OH 8/27/2023
Sun was low and the fog was forming as I came down the Coast Range behind our home.

Having spotted a cut of flats in Whittier to be unloaded and reloaded with left over barge traffic due to a shortage of flats, 3006 and 3003 are now westbound through Bear Valley with a few flats in tow for Spencer. Spencer roughly 6 miles from any road and south of Portage hosts glacier tours and touristy things to do for people who ride the Alaska railroad. Every year the railroad shuttles equipment to and from Spencer for the guides to use throughout the season and with the season almost over the flats will soon be loaded up and hauled back out until spring.
Spencer Monument Salt Lake City Cemetery, Salt Lake City, Utah. This monument honors brothers Orson, Daniel, and Hyrum Spencer who were prominent members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during its founding years in Nauvoo, Illinois, and later in Salt Lake City, Utah. Orson Spencer (1802-1855) served as Mayor of Nauvoo, and also was first Chancelor of the University of Utah (originally the University of Deseret).
A profile portrait of Spencer whilst he was in the midst of one of his many disagreements with inanimate objects. Today it was the wall that had aggrieved him!
WLE 221-27 slows across the diamond in downtown Spencer, Ohio so they can perform their work. After picking up Bellevue cars set out by an X291 earlier in the day they'll continue west towards Hartland Yard in Norwalk.

I took a hike in the woods of Spencer's Butte. There aren't many people out on a foggy day and it left me conversing with the stalwarts that hold court on the trail...these are the wordless dialogues that I so love...
This is a rare and beautiful Spencer machine brought to life with original parts. David (Jimmy) Spencer, an Ipswich local in the early 1900s credited with developing Australia’s first motorcycles.

A lot of water evaporates from the warmer lake into the colder dry air above. As soon as this invisible gas rises even just a little bit above the relatively warm water, it hits air that is much colder and can’t hold much vapor, so the vapor condenses into microscopic droplets of liquid water in the air.
Some people call the wispy clouds caused by condensation just above the winter ocean or lakes “sea smoke.” That’s a better term than steam. Real steam is very hot water vapor – that is, water in its gas phase, which is invisible.
