I took this shot one morning last March off US-12 somewhere West of Lewiston Idaho, I believe somewhere near Pomeroy, Washington but not exactly sure. I walked along the ledge and ended up with quite a few pictures that I liked. As I recall, it was early, the sun hadn't been up long, but the clouds obscured most of the direct sunlight, so pretty much had cloud filtered light.

Tonight I'm in Otay Mesa, which is near San Diego and just about as close to Mexico. When you exit off I-5 onto I-905 then look right from the overpass, you can see into Tijuana. In fact my internet speedtest app on my phone thinks I'm in Tijuana. I use to worry T-Mobile would charge me for international data usage, but they never have, somehow they know I'm still on this side of the California border wall.

Under a stunning blue sky, ex-LMS steam locomotive 46100 "Royal Scot" on the first of a number of 50 mph speed tests on the Severn Valley Railway. The SVR was given special permission to run the loco at twice the line's normal permitted speed limit of 25 mph. The newly overhauled engine was being tested ready for future mainline operation. It is pictured here in a brilliant burst of sunshine on October 13th on the first run between Bewdley and Kidderminster. As it approached Bewdley Tunnel here, the empty stock four-carriage train was running at 46 mph. It made an amazing sight and sound as it came up the incline out of Bewdley. I almost had to do a double take as I have only ever seen trains here at a much more sedate pace!

Sorry for not commenting recently - I use True as my ISP here in Thailand and over the last week I've had substantial speed difficulties. Example, my 2.5mbps ADSL line was yesterday only giving me 51.6kbps speeds** - True's response "heavy rain! They promised today will be back to normal (I hope better than that) and they've reset my system (they claim). Check out what Largo's got to say!

This has been uploaded from the office (ssshh, don't tell the boss). When I get home I'll do a catch-up on your streams. ** PS - speed check was from Internet Frog

I was interested in the top speed of this model loco, given its original L-motor setup (compared with the doctored motors for DP1); it always seemed a little slow, but I wanted a number. So I set about videoing it traversing a set distance and timing it at the seven speed settings *, and wrote a spreadsheet (next image) to crunch the data.

MOTORS & TRANSMISSION: 2 standard L-motors, each with in-body multiplier gearing in Lego parts, 20T:12T, thereafter unity gearing down to the bogies (trucks). Middle and inner axles are powered, outer axles articulate on pony trucks.

SCALE: Always a difficult one this - the loco is slightly compressed in length, and slightly over-height, compared with the target scale of 1:38. I've gone with a nominal 1:42 and hoped for the best!

* NOTE: Lego's standard infrared Power Functions transmitter system has 7 discrete incremental speeds. I am looking forward to trying the BuWizz control system to see how much more control that will give. Hopefully it will be a lot smoother, but how easy will it be to actually handle and achieve that smoothness?

Another secret US Air Force concept from back in the 80s.

The name MAKO comes from the sharklike shaped design in the cockpit section.

Also the speedtest results was nothing the Navy had seen before.

I got lucky to lay my hands on it.

Who has thought a videogame would inspire the Army to test such crazy designs ;)

Today, we've been hurled into the 21st century with fiber optic connection to the property boundary (copper within the property). Some people may have even faster speeds, still, we are happy with this :)

Foto tirada na pista do Mega Space, em Santa Luzia-MG, no evento da Indian Day. Tivemos o prazer de assistir ao Curso de Pilotagem e também fazer um testride nas motos Indian e Yamaha. Fantástico!

bought a $50 'mifi' dongle from frys and its been performing quite good, in fact, while I'm out and about.

I usually get 5meg up and 1meg down, but sometimes it gives me a bit more speed.

its 4g-only (wimax) and rides on sprint's network. in the bay area, there are good and bad locations (rt101 is fine; rt280 is not), but if you do get signal, its impressive.

linux support is stellar! not only does it give wifi but the usb wired connection also 'just plain works' on linux as a 'usb0' network interface. linux mint (latest) just plain worked when I plugged the microusb cord into my laptop for charging. I didn't expect usb-networking to work but its great!

it can be 3 net interfaces: wan (wimax, 4g), wifi and finally usb wired.

battery life is 6-7 hours so far. also very impressive.

dongle is quite small and I've been able to carry it in my vest jacket pocket and give myself a portable hotspot, even while driving (car navigation).

my 'old phone' is only 2g/3g and so with this dongle, I can get 4g speeds and give up to 8 wifi clients, which makes my laptop and phone both happy.

web interface for mgmt is also well done.

leds show status and there's no lcd to scratch or break. the minimalistic leds are enough and also don't consume too much power.

I'm not usually this impressed with lower end networking gear but this was a very well done product!

(its called 'clearwire voyager').

Steam locomotive 46100 "Royal Scot heading off to Kidderminster ready to start the day's speed trials at a remarkable 50 miles an hour on the Severn Valley Railway. The former LMS engine is pictured here heading up the bank towards Bewdley Tunnel on the morning of Tuesday October 13th 2015. At Kidderminster, Royal Scot collected four carriages for the trials in preparation for mainline workings. The first speed test took place between Bewdley and Kidderminster after the loco's return. The SVR was given special permission to run the engine on that short stretch of the line at double the normal permitted speed of 25 mph. Got lucky with the footplate crew standing in just the right place (against the light).
