Whatever you are physically...male or female, strong or weak, ill or healthy--all those things matter less than what your heart contains. If you have the soul of a warrior, you are a warrior. All those other things, they are the glass that contains the lamp, but you are the light inside.

Having chased Q217 from Cincinnati, the hours were getting short for the prospects of a chase down the Shortline. Luckily enough the light held out for the classic LCl location at Sparta making the drive home all the more satisfying.

Poking into the sunshine is a Worthville turn working north toward Queensgate on the scenic LCL Subdivision.

CSX Q231 rounds the curve at track speed as it passes the barns at Sparta

A southbound rack train with former Conrail SD60 pass the former tobacco barns north of Sparta Ky, on the LCL Subdivision. Hard to believe that this scene is a thing of the past.

To be fair, I ran into CN's L504 at Coulterville on the St. Louis Sub, but wasn't expecting B&LE power. SD40-3 #907 (built as SP SD45T-2 #9305) came down to Centralia on A408 the afternoon prior, and much to my pleasure, was apparently pressed into service almost immediately.

The train has just come off the short stretch of UP's Sparta Sub between Coulterville and Sparta, former M&I trackage that sees very little beyond UP coal trains to the Gateway Mine, and CN locals like L504. The steel coil cars will be delivered to Kaskaskia Regional Port District (KRPD) Dock #2 near Baldwin.

A single tunnel motor brings WS-X east with a handful of cars picked up from the siding just north of Sparta Junction. This location is historically where the Susquehanna crossed the Lehigh & Hudson River. Today, trains on the Susquehanna will go east-west on the old NYS&W main east of Sparta, and then turn north-south on the L&HR main north of the junction. An assortment of industries exist today where the junction had previously been.

NYS&W SU-99 led by ECO unit 3016 with the two former NS SD70M-2s 4062-4066 trailing swing round a curve on the approach to Sparta on June 13, 2023. The fourth unit 3634 was dropped off at Sparta along with a cut of cars.

CSX 911 finds a gap in the clouds as it hustles south through Sparta with a lengthy M217 in tow. This was a nice highlight to a weekend back in my home territory.

CN L504, powered by GTW 5933 and IC 3108 roll slow thru Sparta, IL. The train is passing the former GM&O depot and caboose here in town.

The soup is thick in the valley near Sparta as Q248 heads north past the tobacco barns.

Q272 rolls north through Sparta, KY as the fog begins to burn off.

Good day people!

Holidays are over and i am back to work, which in winter in germany means: it's dark when you leave home and dark, when you leave work.

Not ideal photo conditions, so i'm going with what's in the house.

In this case i was using my macro extension tubes on a collectors edition bluray of a certain movie.

Have a great day!

Constructed in 1872, this structure was a source of supplies for nearby mining areas. Vacant for many years, it looks like someone is working on making the building habitable. It has a new roof, new stove pipe, new windows and the shutters and bench have been painted. Quite a project.

Happy Bench Monday!

CN C40-8 2007 leads a Northbound ID through Sparta, MN.

Intermodal Q133 heads south on the scenic LCL Subdivision at Sparta, Kentucky. The tobacco barns are a common sight throughout the Eagle Valley.

I wanted to take a photo of Sparta as wolf from Little Red Riding Hood disguised as the grandma.

And turns out that she's unable to look like villain of the story (but sure has personality of one).

For the January "chair" challenge in memory of Kelli Paswater.

It took me a while to find this stool but I really wanted to imitate Kelli's "just sittin" series. Sparta couldn't fit (which wasn't a surprise) but luckily our cat was able to help.

Cool kids.

We got a visit from Newa this week! And I'm really proud of Sparta because she behaved very well. Although she got jealous (and was really loud about it) everytime I tried to pet Newa.

Also I highly recommend petting Newa, because she's a sweet girl with soft fur, really cuddly ♥

We had to change plans because raising funds for a better life as an unicorn was a failure.

Sparta's new plan is to be a good girl (preferably best girl ever) and to not eat small dogs (regardless of how much noise they make).

Our third year in the group started with a little trip to the city with my friend. I hope next time we will also get a dog companion for Sparta to develop her poor social skills.

Taken at my SL home with props.

The warrior, looks towards the advancing lines of the enemy. He throws his spear with so much strength it makes a whoooossshhhh sound as it passes over his fellow warriors. watching if briefly for a second or two before repeating the action again and again...

Viperine as Queen Gorgo of Sparta (and no there's no typo, I didn't miss an N) this is inspired by the film 300!!!

My sister made Viperine's dress and it's based on what Queen Gorgo (Lena Headey) wears in the film.

I created a Blogspot where I will upload extra shots and behind the scenes of our photos :-)

Here's a link (there's some extra picts of Viperine in her dress btw):

I plan to write about how my sister and I take photos and there'll be some interesting and helpful tips for everyone hopefully.

We'll see... I'm excited! ^__^

An unusual example of leased power on the NYSW takes SJ-X around the s-curve at Oak Ridge, having picked up hot cars for Sparta from Ridgefield Park.

Minntac loads and empties meet at Sparta (Gilbert) on a stunning fall morning. This location used to be a standard meeting place between Iron Range and Missabe Division crews where they would swap trains. The introduction Inter-Divisional (I/D) crew agreements would eliminate crew swaps here and at Biwabik.

Three standard cab EMDs are reflected in a small pond near Sparta, Kentucky leading a Worthville turn back to the yard west of Worthville on the Carrolton Branch.

The King of the Greek city-state of Sparta. (490-480BC)

The mighty military leader of the 300 Spartans that fought to their death to defend the narrow coastal pass at the Battle of Thermopylae 480 BC, 2500 years ago.

The worldwide symbol of heroism, bravery, and self sacrifice for the greater good!

This creation is a revised and extended version of my earlier Spartan helmet
