My friend's Yorkie dressed up in his boots, flames sunvisor, and "Bad to the Bone scarf. How cool is this puppy?

Pictures of the Robbins Reef Lighthouse from on board the Jewel of the Seas on Embarkation Day - Thursday September 14th, 2023 as we headed up to Manhattan for our brief sailaway. The Robbins Reef Light is a sparkplug lighthouse that dates from 1883 (replacing a light that was built in 1839). It is very close to Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey. I was able to see a number of lighthouses in New York Harbor this trip. On board the Royal Caribbean Jewel of the Seas for a grand 14 day cruise to Greenland (September 14th through 28th, 2023). The cruise embarks from Cape Liberty (Bayonne, NJ) with an actual stop in Manhattan (a delay leaving NYC caused by Hurricane Lee); Nuuk, Qaqortoq & Nanortalik in Greenland; St.John's, Newfoundland before heading back to New York City.

Goose Rocks Light is a sparkplug lighthouse located near North Haven, Maine in Penobscot Bay. It stands at the eastern entrance to the Fox Islands Thoroughfare, a busy mile-wide passage separating North Haven from Vinalhaven. Built in 1890, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places as Goose Rocks Light Station on January 21, 1988.

Sakonnet is one of about thirty surviving “spark plug” lighthouses, so called because of their appearance. (Most of the spark plugs were built before the gasoline engine came into common use, and so were originally referred to as “coffee pots” or sometimes “bug lights.”) The sparkplug lights were typically prefabricated on shore, barged to the site, and put into place with floating cranes. They are usually located offshore, and most of them are found in the Northeastern and mid-Atlantic states.

We had an amazing time on board the Royal Caribbean's Adventure of the Seas on our seven night cruise of New England and Canada (July 27th through August 3rd, 2018). Our first stop was Portland (Maine) and we took the "Lighthouses of Maine" shore excursion. We could not get on the morning excursion, so ours left at 2pm in the afternoon. The timing might have been very optimal as it clouded up a bit and those amazing clouds that contributed to some fantastic pictures. The excursion provided visits to three lighthouses. The Spring Point Ledge Light is a sparkplug lighthouse built in 1897 and located in South Portland. These are pictures taken at the Spring Point Ledge Light include a few of Portland Head Light and the Adventure of the Seas at port. Taken on Sunday July 29th, 2018.

I had to brighten up the photo a lot so it's a noisy mess. The tip of the plug was.. red??

The itinerary changed after Hurricane Nicole canceled our planned stops.

Servicing my second 2CV6 Charleston (the two-tone grey one), approx 1991. A grubby, tiring job for sure, but very satisfying once completed. With cars becoming more and more computerised, servicing has become something you more often than not pay others to do for you. So this represents something the younger drivers of today, and the future, may never get to do. And they'll never know they missed it. Yes, I know that makes me sound old.

"Don't start anything" is the punchline to an old an convolute joke about a guy wearing a set of jumpleads as a tie to get into a club.

In this case I do want it to start something. I'm having problems with the bike, which despite flying through an MOT is having a problem with randomly cutting out.

There's all kinds of parts in the chain that could be wrong, but following some advice in a forum I'm eliminating the easy and cheap stuff first.

It's always a problem working on a vehicle like mine, which is comparatively old but staggeringly low miles. Stuff that ages is aged, but stuff that wears isn't worn.

The current spark plug is the one it left the factory with, so fifteen years old. For £3.50 I think I can stand to replace it.

I'll keep you posted...

My favourite pet, at age 18.

The Romer Shoal Light is a sparkplug lighthouse that dates from 1898 and is in the Lower New York Bay. It is 2 and a half nautical miles north of Sandy Hook, New Jersey. A few of the pictures also show the Sandy Hook Lighthouse in the background. I was able to see a number of lighthouses in New York Harbor this trip. The beautiful Baltimore Harbor Light during embarkation day onboard the Royal Caribbean Vision of the Seas for an eight night cruise from Baltimore, Maryland to the Southeastern United States and the Bahamas (February 16th, 2024 to February 24th, 2024). The Baltimore Harbor Light is a sparkplug lighthouse near the Bay Bridge. The Light was first lit in 1908 and the focal height of the light is 52 feet. Since we left right on time, we were able to see it beautifully on the Starboard side (right) as we headed down the Chesapeake Bay. The cruise embarks from Baltimore, Maryland with stops in Charleston, South Carolina; Port Canaveral, Florida; Freeport, Grand Bahama Island, Bahamas, and Nassau, Bahamas, before returning back to Baltimore.
