Inspired by artist Frida Kahlo, these Sandburg Elementary 4K students created their own self portraits. Sandburg students met with educator Barb Alvarado over a series of classroom visits in November and December of 2017, culminating in a Frieda Fiesta event at the Hawthorne Library in January of 2018.
This visit was part of the library's Language Liaison program, connecting young children and their families and caregivers to library resources for early learning in Spanish and Hmong. The Language Liaison program is partially funded by a grant from the Madison Public Library Foundation.

On Sunday, 11th December, we made a trip to the charming seaside town of San Sebastian. San Sebastian is located on the Bay of Biscay, just an hour away from Bilbao and about 20km to the west of the French border.

This curiously-titled sculpture is a tribute to the artist's mother, representing "helpfulness and protection".
