~On Blue Bayou~

Looks to me like a dead Monterey Cypress Tree.

Now sing it if ya know it...

I'm going back someday

Come what may

To Blue Bayou

Where the folks are fine

And the world is mine

On Blue Bayou

Where those fishing boats

With their sails afloat

If I could only see

That familiar sunrise

Through sleepy eyes

How happy I'd be

There's something about the roar and crash of the surf that is at once both energizing and relaxing. The first few days of my vacation had been go go go go at a frantic pace. It was a good kind of busy but when I got to the Monterey area it was nice to finally just relax.

Wiki

The Lone Cypress is a Monterey cypress tree in Pebble Beach, California. Standing on a granite hillside off the 17-Mile Drive, the tree is a Western icon, and has been called one of the most photographed trees in North America. It is located between Cypress Point Golf Course and the Pebble Beach Golf Links, two of world's best-known golf courses. Possibly as old as 250 years, the cypress has been scarred by fire and has been held in place with cables for 65 years.

The Monterey cypress grows naturally only in Pebble Beach and Point Lobos.[1]

A drawing of the tree was registered as Pebble Beach Company's trademark in 1919. The company said the trademark protected not only the logo but also the tree itself.

Monterey at the California coast is always a treat to visit. We went for dinner at the Inn at Spanish Bay, an upscale resort and golf course. A piper entertains guests with a bagpipe, apparently every evening.

I processed a balanced and a photographic HDR photo from a RAW exposure, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

Cupressus macrocarpa, (now classed as Hesperocyparis macrocarpa), commonly known as Monterey cypress, is a species of cypress native to the Central Coast of California. The native range of the species was confined to two small relict populations, at Cypress Point in Pebble Beach and at Point Lobos near Carmel, California.

The two native cypress forest stands are protected, within Point Lobos State Reserve and Del Monte Forest. The natural habitat is noted for its cool, moist summers, almost constantly bathed by sea fog.

It grows to heights of up to 133 feet in perfect growing conditions, and its trunk diameter can reach over 9 feet. The foliage grows in dense sprays which are bright green in color and release a deep lemony aroma when crushed. The leaves are scale-like, 2–5 mm long, and produced on rounded (not flattened) shoots; seedlings up to a year old have needle-like leaves 4–8 mm long.

It has been widely reported that individual C. macrocarpa trees may be up to 2,000 years old, but this is disputed by botanists, and the longest-lived report based on physical evidence is of a tree 284 years old.

When planted in areas with hot summers, for example in interior California away from the coastal fog belt, Monterey cypress has proved highly susceptible to cypress canker, caused by the fungus Seiridium cardinale, and rarely survives more than a few years. This disease is not a problem where summers are cool.[13]

The owner was nowhere around, so I have no idea if they had any Grey Poupon. One can only assume...

Pebble Beach Golf Links is a golf course on the west coast of the United States, located in Pebble Beach, California.

Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful courses in the world, it hugs the rugged coastline and has wide open views of Carmel Bay, opening to the Pacific Ocean, on the south side of the Monterey Peninsula. In 2001 it became the first public course (i.e., open to the general public for play) to be selected as the No.1 Golf Course in America by Golf Digest. Greens fees are among the highest in the world, at $495 (plus $35 cart fee for non-resort guests) per round in 2008.

Four of the courses in the coastal community of Pebble Beach, including Pebble Beach Golf Links, belong to the Pebble Beach Company, which also operates three hotels and a spa at the resort. The other courses are The Links at Spanish Bay, Spyglass Hill Golf Course, and Del Monte Golf Course.

The PGA Tour and Champions Tour play annual events at Pebble Beach and it has hosted six major championships: five U.S. Opens and a PGA Championship. The course is included in many golf video games, such as the Links series and the Tiger Woods PGA Tour series.
