Space Police II Lunar Patrol Rover
P is for Pursuit
The Space Police are on the case.
The cops will catch the bad guys
In a high speed rover chase!
When they bring the crook to justice
They will lock him up and then
His henchmen break him out and it all repeats again.
My LEGO remake of the Space Police II set "Sonar Security" (6852) meeting up with its almost 30 year old original.
My version is quite a bit bigger than the original, allowing for a bit more detail in the design as well as a more functional rocket launching trailer. It also has flexibly suspended wheels on the lorry and trailer, allowing for better offroad capabilities. And it includes lighting features with the battery box and hub neatly hidden behind the cockpit and accessible through a hatch on the roof.
Building instructions and further details can be found on Rebrickable.
Inspired by the spaceway that Mr_Minotaurus built at Bricking Bavaria and the Annual Challenge on RogueBricks.de with the topic 90 years of LEGO, I built a remake of the Space Police II set "Sonar Security" (6852) from '93.

Space Police II is proving their part in the war effort, introducing the 'Stratos Jet Fighter'. A ground attack aircraft capable of scorching the earth in a devastating blow with the front mounted Aurora cannon. This piece of high tech fires straight beams of intense light, burning everything in it's way. The cannons need charging time before firing though, forcing the jets to do rounds and attacking schematically. This technique has worked well for the better known A-10 Warthog, from where it derives its tactical play. In between attacks the rear AA gun, manned by the co-pilot in the back, is able to pick off any inquiring parties. Last but not least, each fighter carries two 'Clusterfudge' missiles. These babies deliver sticky corrosive fudge to any desired area on the battlefield. Bubye sweet paintjob!
Next on the menu: Riot Raptors!
Continuing with the classics, it's a SP2 powersuit. Equipped with a riot stick and shield, this one's ready to whoop Blacktron butt. No more stealing tech, minerals or tequila!
With the riot shield, wrist protection, toque and front framing, this Raptor layout is a bit more padded to protect its pilot in direct conflict. The magnet on the back makes it quickly deployable by SP2 dropships and mobile cranes.
The necessary kick for a charge is povided by the boosters on the back.
Check out the other raptors in the series:
- Fallout
- Neo CS
- M:Tron
- U.F.O.
- IKEA

Jim and Dave are halted at the Space Police checkpoint.
Talking with Dave the Police officer tells that they are looking for a Blacktron Spy signaled around this area, if they proceed, they should be cautious and look out for any suspicious rovers they see.

The Space Police Trike, is a multipurpose investigation rover, equipped with search lights and a cockpit with a clear view at the front and sides.
Super fiddly build. Great testing ground for many building techiques I never used before. Absolutely at the limit of what the joints can support. I really do like how the proportions turned out since I started with the body first, then legs, arms and the head last. Actually fits a figure inside the chest :)
From November 18th to 20th 2022 I went to Bricking Bavaria in Fürth, where Mr_Minotaurus built a spaceway in the style of the old LEGO catalogues for presenting space vehicles in the style of the 80s and 90s. This inspired me to contribute a little remake of the Space Police II set "Sonar Security" (6852) from '93.
Space Police 2 Chief (Captain Magenta) was available in 2 sets #6984 Galactic Mediator in 1992 and #6813 Galactic Chief in 1993. As his subjects he had the same printed head, but you can easily notify him by the red epaulette. The first time we see this soldier accessory on a spaceman.
In 1992 things changed for LEGO spacemen: Printed heads! The uniform friendly minifigure smile was added by red-brown hair and eyebrows and a headset printed over the smile. Pirates were the first minifigures with special printed heads a few years before, now Space Police 2 minifigures are the first in space with this new way of head design.
A LEGO catalogue from 1992 says "The SPACE POLICE enforce the laws established in the Calactic Council. They protect the innocent in all interplanetary disputes (Available August 1st, 1992)."
1992’s Rebel Hunter from Space Police II enters the LEGO City!
Took lots of pictures of this one, had some fun, check it out!
Also known as the Space Police Prisoner Patrol, this medium sized spaceship brings back loads of memories. Two fractions of Space sub-themes are represented here with the Space Police II fig and a Blacktron prisoner, which I really like as a huge fan of Blacktron.
The prisoner’s capsule is a funny little build that looks like it would clamp down on the fig’s feet. I like how these were the standard capsule in the Space Police 2 line and could be used with their other sets.
The ship itself is pretty basic. Uses some large funky elements to add easy bulk and width. I was never a fan of the technic elements being so prominent on the top of the ship, but I love the simple drop-ship action feature! Great transparent dark green elements! Very classic LEGO.
I always figured the green and red modified facets (3x3x2) were the equivalent of police lights, subbing green for blue.
Did you have this set growing up? Like it? Find it problematic?
More ‘90s LEGO sets to be featured soon, including more Space sun-themes!
