✨ Cosmic Beauty: NGC 3718 & Hickson 56 ✨

With my setup – Askar APO185, QHY268m & EQ8-R – I captured the fascinating galaxy NGC 3718 along with the compact galaxy group Hickson 56.

🔭 NGC 3718 is a barred spiral galaxy with a uniquely distorted dust lane stretching across its core. It belongs to the category of polar ring galaxies and lies approximately 47 million light-years away in the Ursa Major constellation.

🌌 Close by is Hickson 56, a compact group of five interacting galaxies. This group is about seven times farther away than NGC 3718 and is a stunning example of gravitational interactions in the universe.

This image not only highlights these remarkable objects but also showcases numerous distant galaxies in the background—a true window into the depths of space!

The Propeller Nebula (Simeis 57) is part of a vast and rich Ha region in Cygnus, known as Cygnus X Complex.

DWB and Simeiz (also spelled Semies) designations are not so commonly known, so first, a little history.

The Simeiz Catalog was created in the 1950s by the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory in Simeiz, Ukraine. This catalog is focused on Hydrogen regions and documented 306 of them. The Propeller Nebula is item 57 in this catalog.

The DWB catalog was created in the 1960s by H. R. Dickel, H. Wendker, and J. H. Bieritz, and it cataloged the Hydrogen regions they were studying in the Cygnus X Complex. While DWB 111 is often used as the designation for the Propeller, it only deals with the southern arm of the Propeller, while DWB 119 deals with the northern arm.

Markarian's Chain is a string-like group of galaxies that forms part of the Virgo Cluster, located about 70 million light-years from Earth. It is called a "chain" because, when observed from Earth, the cluster appears arranged along a gently curved line. It is named after Armenian astrophysicist Benjamin Markarian, who discovered their shared motion in the early 1960s. The region includes multiple galaxies, mainly elliptical ones, among which the NGC 4435-4438 pair—nicknamed “The Eyes of Virgo”—stands out. The names of the main visible galaxies are shown in the outer frames.

The image was taken from Casalgrande, in the Po Valley—one of the most light-polluted areas in Europe—and required about 8 hours of exposure time.

Buona giornata

Spinning serenely in the heart of the Virgo Cluster, Messier 100 is one of the most majestic grand design spiral galaxies known to us.

Also cataloged as NGC 4321, this face-on beauty showcases tightly wound spiral arms, glowing with star-forming regions and interlaced with dark dust lanes. At approximately 55 million light-years from Earth, M100 spans over 100,000 light-years — rivaling the Milky Way in size and elegance. Its well-defined structure and active star-forming activity make it a key object of study in understanding galactic evolution.

At first, I wanted to write a story for this collection, as I did for the other ones.

Once upon a time; a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

But then I understood that it is impossible. This is that kind of story which is unique for everyone.

And folks write their stories on each other: on others' minds, on bodies - with their own minds and bodies. There is no other way.

Keep your space stories well, and don't forget that they go on, eternally.

On October, 25 two Japanese guys passed the training on Egress-2 simulator. This unique training in Orlan spacesuits enables the cosmonauts to practice further extravehicular activities. Special systems simulate support-free condition thus participants of the training feel like real cosmonauts performing a spacewalk.

The image was remotely captured from the Chilean desert, one of the areas with the lowest light pollution on the planet, making it ideal for astrophotography. The subject is the evocative CG4 nebula, nicknamed "The Glowing Hand of God" due to its elongated, ghostly shape resembling an outstretched arm reaching toward the small galaxy PGC 21338. This structure lies immersed in a vast field of ionized hydrogen filaments and dust, which in perspective overlap with the irregular galaxy NGC 2427—though in reality, the latter is located at a much greater distance.

M101 (also known as Pinwheel Galaxy) is a spiral galaxy in the constellation Ursa Major. It has over 170 000 light years in diameter and it lies 21 million light years away from Earth. Thanks to that it's one of the brightest galaxies, which is seen also in small telescopes. It was discovered by French astronomer Pierre Méchain in 1781.

The constellation of Leo is rich in galaxies because it lies outwards of the Milky Way Galaxy. And that's why I pointed my camera to this constellation. Unfortunately, I lost one hour of data and therefore the details and the quality aren't the best, but for me, it's amazing to see so many galaxies in one picture.

The first picture is a crop from the original image and there are the biggest galaxies called M95, M96, and M105. In other ones, there are cropped images with the marked galaxies. The last picture is the full image, which I have taken by 135mm lens. Enjoy!

Standing face-to-face with the legendary Space Shuttle Discovery is an awe-inspiring experience. Captured in dramatic black and white, this photograph emphasizes the intricate details and timeless beauty of one of humanity's greatest engineering feats.

Housed in the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia, Discovery proudly represents a legacy of exploration and innovation. From deploying satellites to building the International Space Station, this iconic shuttle paved the way for modern spaceflight.

I was captivated by the interplay of light and shadow within the hangar, highlighting the shuttle's thermal tiles and the towering American flag in the background—a perfect homage to Discovery's monumental achievements.

Have you ever visited this incredible museum? Let me know your thoughts or favorite exhibits in the comments!

I found the urge to meet you there

I'll take you with me straight to the blue

We'll breathe the sky just me and you

Desire in the eyes

The stars in my hands

I will make it real for nothing is real anymore...

I'll turn you on

Set free your fears

Free like the wind

Eternal thrill

The countdown starts

Relax don't move

The pilot's me

That drives your heart.
