I tried to catch them in flight, which doesn't work out really good and later I noticed they are no small white but southern small white. That's very exciting. Schwetzingen is awfully hot, just like the Mediterranean regions.

The sewage treatment plant is a hotspot for birds, which I believe are attracted to the location because of the fresh water and the ample insect life. Definitely not the most glamorous of locations. But that is where to find the southern lapwings.

Little Yellow butterfly taking shelter on a breezy day.

Considered common and abundant in the south, it's uncommon and rare, here. Unable to survive our Winters, it re-populates each year via migration from southern States.

Three Southern Railway GP50’s wheel a southbound manifest through Faber, Virginia. Although GP50’s had been around for close to two years, they did not sell in the northeast, and this was my first encounter with one.

On December 11th, 1988 the W. Colton power desk assigned GP35 #6646 and SD39 #5317 as a helper engine set to work on Cajon Pass.

Here the pair of veteran engines work hard after having been added to the point of a Westbound manifest with SD45T-2R #6837 leading and that also included Denver & Rio Grande Western SD45's #5334 and #5326.

The train is just about to Hiland, the summit of the grade on the Palmdale Cutoff.

The shot was taken on a trolley tour I took to Savannah's (in Georgia). downtown historic district.I don't think the tour guide said anything in particular about this house because I was just taking pictures of anything I saw that was beautiful and that I could get a good angle of from a moving vehicle, and this was one.

Wild South Africa

Kruger National Park

In Africa Southern Ground-hornbills are classified as ‘vulnerable’ by the IUCN, however, in South Africa they are classified as ‘endangered’ and on the Red List of Threatened Species as only about 1500 individuals still live within the country. Loss of habitat, loss of nesting trees, electrocution from transformer boxes and even, in some cases, killed for use in traditional medicine, have all contributed to the rapid decline of these majestic birds.

After almost 2 months I finally could pick up my macrolens ( that was broken ). 2 months of desperate waiting … while the macro season was slowly slipping away arrggg. The next day I went outside to take some macroshots . This Darner ( Southern Hawker) was the first shot I took.

So glad he’s back again !

The Southern Grey Shrike can only be found on Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. It prefers the open landscape of the lower altitudes, and is therefore more frequently found on the flat eastern islands.

The 'Southern Swan' at sunset on Sydney harbour.

It is a 103 year old pirate ship from Denmark, lol.

The 'Southern Swan' was built in Denmark in 1922 and was originally named: 'Our Svanen', and was famous as a trading vessel on the Baltic Sea. It has been in Sydney since 1988, and now conducts sunset and twilight pirate cruises.

I photographed the 'Southern Swan' in fading light (hence the lack of clarity across the harbour) from the top of the 'Access Forbidden' stairs at Piers 4/5: Walsh Bay Wharf Precinct.

Directly across the harbour is the Balls Head Reserve, one of my favourite locations to take sunset photographs of the city and Goat Island. I intend to visit there soon for dawn photographs.
