What once was, is no longer! When Hurricane Ian came through, it took these structures with it. The small buildings could not take another strong storm. Over the years, little by little the sea and Mother Nature, had it's way.

BUILT IN FLORIDA IN 1981 on Ten Thousand Island which is south of Marco Island, and only accessible via water. The island belongs to a larger group of Ten Thousand Islands. The ultra-modern Dome House is a complex of stilted concrete igloos slowly being reclaimed by the sea.

I love sunsets and sunrises. The weather on Xmas day was exceptional in South Florida. This particular shot is a HDR composite taken approximately 20-25 minutes after the sun set below the horizon. The colors just kept getting brighter with every minute. Some of you may recognize the location. It is Everglades Holiday Park, home of the TV reality series on Animal Planet appropriately named "Gator Boys." For those wondering, the answer is "YES," a few of the critters were lurking close by, unnerving avid photographers. In reality, the mosquitoes were more pesky than the gators.

Until I realized that I have two lights out. Dam light bulbs never last.....

Staircase of the Salvador Dali Museum: museum dedicated to the painter Salvador Dalí located on the campus of the University of South Florida in St. Petersburg (Florida).

Designed by the American architect Yann Weimouth (who was I.M. Pei's assistant for the Pyramid of the Louvre Museum in Paris), the Salvador Dali Museum combines the rational and the fantastic. It consists of a simple rectangle from which emerges a round shape, free, consisting of triangles of glass reminiscent of the dome of the museum of Dali in Spain. Inside is an eccentric and bold spiral staircase, reminiscent of Dali's obsession with the spirals and helical shapes of the DNA molecule …

Eastern eyed click beetles are not very common, but people tend to notice and remember them when they do see one. At one to two inches in length, these are large insects, and those large false eye spots on their head are just so conspicuous. It's to scare off predators and weirdos like me with a camera.

This is a late evening photo of the Florida Everglats. This image was taken at Arthur R. Marshall, Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge. It is the most northern point of the Florida Everglades. It covers and are or 145,188 acres. Awesome place. Not very long before the sunset.

This looks like a baby, but the Pied -Billed Grebe is small in adult size. They can be difficult to photograph because they constantly dive under the water, only to reappear in a new location.

I had never seen so many Meadowlarks at once. The weather was overcast with intermittent rain. The Meadowlarks were all over the grass foraging and more were on the edge of the field on low brush. They were all singing a melody. It was just magical. You had to be there.

30 minutes after this shot we did have a loud thunderstorm, but no tornado.

During the course of its growth it changes from an immature bright white, to a silver/grey-back juvenile, to a (true-blue) little blue heron as an adult. Above you can see the silver/grey starting to appear.

Nice little find. Jupiter, Florida.

The Pine Rocklands of the Florida Keys is an unusual ecosystem, with a rock layer not far beneath the surface. In the United States, the last 2% of the original forest is found only in the National Key Deer Refuge, primarily on Big Pine Key. They are also found on some isolated locations in the Caribbean.

Slash Pine trees (Pinus ellottii), with sturdy taproots, can remain standing long after the death of a tree. So there is an eerie mix of live and dead trees in the pine rocklands. When they finally fall, decomposition is rapid, with little soil buildup. There are "holes" with ponds of fresh water that support a variety of plants and small animals. In the picture, Saw Palmetto is the primary plant in the understory, but about 250 species of plants are found in the Pine Rocklands.

I guess I should finish up this amazing South Florida

Everglades sunset from last month that was one of the

best sunsets of the year IMHO, with incredibly changing

light and colors from minute to minute. I really enjoyed it

and I do love sharing it with you. Thank you for looking.
