Eastern eyed click beetles are not very common, but people tend to notice and remember them when they do see one. At one to two inches in length, these are large insects, and those large false eye spots on their head are just so conspicuous. It's to scare off predators and weirdos like me with a camera.

Combretums are very impressive plants, and this one is definitely one of the brightest of them. Powder-puff flowers are multi-colored: yellow, orange, and red. When in bloom, this vining shrub is all covered with them, looks like a fire. Can be trimmed as a shrub or grows as a vine with support when you let it go.

This curious Osprey posed effortlessly for the camera at Everglades National Park near the Flamingo Visitor Center. My wife and suspect that it was eyeing the camera as a snack for its chick which was watching from a nest nearby. We both kept our gear well-guarded just in case. BTW, for those interested, winter is the best time of the year to spot wading birds, enjoy mild temperatures and avoid the dreaded mosquitoes at Everglades N.P.

Pompano Beach Airpark / Pompano Beach Golf Course
Pompano Beach, Florida U.S.A. - October 19th, 2024

Pompano Beach Airpark is also the Home of the Goodyear Blimp!
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodyear_Blimp
*[The city's name is derived from the Florida pompano
(Trachinotus carolinus), a fish found off the Atlantic coast]
There had been scattered settlers in the area since at least the
mid-1880s, but the first documented permanent residents of the Pompano area were George Butler and Frank Sheen and their families, who arrived in 1896 as railway employees. The first train arrived in the small Pompano settlement on February 22, 1896. It is said that Sheen gave the community its name after jotting down on his survey of the area the name of the fish he had for dinner. The coming of the railroad led to development farther west from the coast. In 1906, Pompano became the southernmost settlement in newly created Palm Beach County. That year, the tall Hillsboro Lighthouse was completed on the beach, and the rest is history!

Wood Storks - Florida Wetlands - Palm Beach County U.S.A.
*[left-double-click for a closer-look]
The Wood Storks are really making a comeback after
being on the endangered species list a few years ago.
In the image above; the juveniles are on the right and
the adults are on the left away from the sibling chaos.
(four more "wood stork" photos in the comments)
***************************************************************************
The wood stork is a large American wading bird in the stork family. It appears all white on the ground, with blackish-gray legs and pink feet. In flight, the trailing edge of the wings is black. The head is dark brown with a bald, black face, and the thick down-curved bill is dusky yellow. Juvenile birds are a duller version of the adult, generally browner on the neck, and with a paler bill. The bare head and the long bill, which can measure up to ten inches in length, render the wood stork distinctive from other large waders in its range.

I watched her as she circled the harbor, with the very intense
sunset sky magnificently changing, minute by colorful minute.
Each shot I took of her was quite different in color and light,
constantly and methodically changing. I knew that on her
last turn to Port I would have her at the perfect spot and at
the perfect time. Fun captures. Only problem: I love them all.
