The ongoing drought in South Africa reminded us of how important water is to all living things. It truly is - and will forever be - the source of all life.

Fortunately Zimanga still has enough water for the animals due to a huge lake alongside the reserve. It even distributes water to villages and other game reserves. A big thumbs up for them!

The night was nearly over in the Umgodi overnight hide and the sun wasn't even up yet when this group of wildebeest came in for a drink. I really love the wide-angle effect, portraying them beautifully against the blue morning sky.

One source says the Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains range is about 1,000 km (620 mi) in length. Its highest point is 7,090 m (23,260 ft) located 100 km (62 mi) to the northwest of Lhasa. The range is parallel to the Himalayas in the Transhimalayas, and north of the Brahmaputra River. [3] Another source says the Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains extend 460 miles (740 km) from Nyêmo County in the west to Ranwu County (the southwestern part of Baxoi County) in the east.

Its highest peak is Mount Nyenchen Tanglha (Nyainqêntanglha Feng) at 7,162 metres (23,497 ft).[4]

The southern side of the Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains is precipitous, and falls by around 2,000 metres (6,600 ft), while the northern side is fairly level and descends about 1,000 metres (3,300 ft). Most of the mountains are below 6,500 metres (21,300 ft).[5] They contain 7080 glaciers covering an area of 10,700 square kilometres (4,100 sq mi).[4]

The Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains have an average latitude of 30°30'N and a longitude between 90°E and 97°E. Together with the Gangdise Shan located further west, it forms the Transhimalaya [a] which runs parallel to the Himalayas north of the Yarlung Tsangpo River.

The Drukla Chu river rises in the Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains, where it is called the Song Chu river, and joins the Gyamda Chu river. The combined rivers run about 100 kilometres (62 mi) southeast to the Yarlung Tsangpo river.

This picture is #40in the 100 Strangers Project - Round 3

Meet Samara.

I met this amazing stranger Samara during a chance encounter on the streets of Bethesda. In all honesty, I was hesitant about approaching her when I first saw her since she had 'don't bother me' serious vibe about her, which I later learned was maybe her 'determined" woman on a mission done (to get her errand) look.

A doctor with the US Navy, Samara certainly seems to have determination and getting things done, as strong character traits in terms of her growth and journey so far. I am truly glad I made my request when she emerged from the store she was shopping at - and I was greeted by a extremely friendly personality with a warm smile and almost a childlike enthusiasm as she heard me out. And of course as in many of my stranger projects she had beautiful and kind eyes (and cool pink headphones that matched her top).

She loves the outdoors and her trip to Patagonia with her two best friends is something she looks at as one of her favoritest memories. Her professional journey so far is a source of great pride. She specializes in internal medicine and is now studying for specializing in Cancer. Looking at the good in people and assuming good intent is her favorite quality about herself, and it seemed to reflect in our conversation.

Thank you, Samara, for taking the time and trusting me with the pictures. It was an absolute pleasure making your acquaintance and we are thankful for all the work you do as a nurse. Wishing you all the best for the future.

Monument Valley (Navajo: Tsé Biiʼ Ndzisgaii, pronounced [tsʰépìːʔ ǹtsɪ̀skɑ̀ìː], meaning "valley of the rocks") is a region of the Colorado Plateau characterized by a cluster of sandstone buttes, with the largest reaching 1,000 ft (300 m) above the valley floor. The most famous butte formations are located in northeastern Arizona along the Utah–Arizona state line. The valley is considered sacred by the Navajo Nation, the Native American people within whose reservation it lies.

Monument Valley has been featured in many forms of media since the 1930s. Famed director John Ford used the location for a number of his Westerns. Film critic Keith Phipps wrote that "its five square miles [13 km2] have defined what decades of moviegoers think of when they imagine the American West".

History

Before human existence, the Park was once a lowland basin. For hundreds of millions of years, materials that eroded from the early Rock Mountains deposited layer upon layer of sediment which cemented a slow and gentle uplift, generated by ceaseless pressure from below the surface, elevating these horizontal strata quite uniformly one to three miles above sea level. What was once a basin became a plateau.

Natural forces of wind and water that eroded the land spent the last 50 million years cutting into and peeling away at the surface of the plateau. The simple wearing down of altering layers of soft and hard rock slowly revealed the natural wonders of Monument Valley today.

From the visitor center, you see the world-famous panorama of the Mitten Buttes and Merrick Butte. You can also purchase guided tours from Navajo tour operators, who take you down into the valley in Jeeps for a narrated cruise through these mythical formations. Places such as Ear of the Wind and other landmarks can only be accessed via guided tours. During the summer months, the visitor center also features Haskenneini Restaurant, which specializes in both native Navajo and American cuisines, and a film/snack/souvenir shop. There are year-round restroom facilities. One mile before the center, numerous Navajo vendors sell arts, crafts, native food, and souvenirs at roadside stands.

ATA HISTORY

The American Thresherman Association (ATA) was organized in March of 1959.

At the annual meeting in 1962, Amos Rixman commented that the Association "organized three years ago this month for the purpose of furnishing some enjoyment to its members and to be the beginning of something very worthwhile." Already in its brief life the Association had earned such a reputation that three towns vied for the chance to become the permanent site for the show. The Pinckneyville Chamber of Commerce invited the ATA with open arms and pledges of support, and the Perry County community was chosen over Mascoutah and Highland for the 1962 show site.
