I dedicate this to one of my favourite groups of experimental vocal music ever - The Swingle Singers. I've followed them for years and subjected my young children to them as an adjunct to pure baroque and "classical" music. This beyond brilliant "diva" creates humour while she stretches the soprano voice far into the coloratura realm.

Osterospermum Soprano

(African Daisy) SOPRANO® White Osteospermum displays crisp white daisy-like flowers with a lovely violet- purple eye that bloom from spring until fall. SOPRANO® White is a low maintenance plant that does not require deadheading for continuous bloom. New flowers will quickly cover old flowers to keep the plant looking its best. SOPRANO® White is a compact grower with a height of 6-10″ and will grow best in full sun to part shade locations. Use SOPRANO® White in hanging baskets, window boxes, landscape beds and combination planters.

The tip of a soprano (L) and shank of a tenor (R) saxophone mouthpiece...

Before I took up photography I was a professional jazz saxophonist, with a special penchant for "Fusion," a combination of jazz and rock. The Dukoff mouthpieces shown here were popularized in the '70's by Michael Brecker, in my opinion the greatest fusion saxophonist who ever lived.

The image scale measures just under 2½-inches across.

Strobist info:

The subjects were illuminated by two Nikon SB900 speedlights, each fired through a Neewer 24" x 24" soft box. The speedlights were placed 45-degrees CL and CR, one-foot above and two-feet away from the subject, facing down at a 45-degree angle. Both speedlights were fired in Manual mode @ 1⁄64 -0.7EV power.

The SB900's were triggered by three PocketWizard Plus X's.

Bought some flowers at Lowes the other day to fill in some hanging baskets. Probably not an ideal hanging basket flower, but I couldn't pass up this interesting flower. It seems to be doing well so far.

A few weeks earlier, I was lopping off the lower pine branches, unknowingly I scared the heck out of the mommy cardinal in a nest a foot away (and she really startled and scared me, too, with her loud fluttering and screaming). Surprisingly, she came back and built another nest a few feet away. I got to watch for the first time this amazing event. I did not take as many pictures, afraid the neighbors think I was strange standing on a 6-ft ladder in my front yard, with cars driving by. :). Who needs pride, anyway, when you're a die-hard Flickr photographer? :)

I changed from the original title "The Three Tenors", because it's not as original (somebody else already used it); and the pitch these babies make is much closer to soprano. :)

One of the two ocarinas I can play - I own many, but I can only play these two. I got it from ocarina.co.uk several years ago.

Illuminated sign in a beauty salon window. I liked the sign, and the reflection of the tenements opposite in the glass, although personally I thought the name sounded more like a name for a cocktail bar!
