Still learning a lot with photoshop but little by little i'm getting the hang of it..one picture better then the other. Like a few other pictures of mine do I like to add now and then a message in it. Just something linked to the picture or just to give it an extra touch. So here we go!! A dude with blue fire , a soul getting born , an orb floating in the hand..let your fantasy just go wacko about it like I did! :)

I went out to work with the charter school students who come out every thursday afternoon to work in the garden. I also FINALLY got to work on my own bed- yay to compost being spread! lettuce being planted! along with some flowers! The sweet peas and snow peas are getting SO BIG! The snow peas are forming pods already!! I cannot wait! I pulled up these carrots to make way for the lettuce and "soon to be seeded" radishes.

~ Basharat Peer's memoir of the trouble in his homeland, Kashmir, Curfewed Night. It is highly frustrating when international organisations, such as the UN, appear to conveniently sideline the grave issue of human rights violations of a whole nation. Perhaps they are overwhelmed with world-wide conflicts - have you read the news lately??! - and the matter most pressing gets top attention.
Self-determination of a nation rests entirely upon their own wishes, and should be campaigned as such. How unfortunate that to achieve this, much has to be lost. This past weekend also marked the 28th death anniversary in Indian captivity, of Maqbool Bhat, the co-founder of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF). How many more shaheed~martyres?
[This article just came through in the Guernica monthly newsletter. And Geoff Dyer's novel is my next book post!]
I understand this to be a most important book, written by a native Kashmiri, and will write a report once I've read it. The next book on my To read... list, which will commence once I can get away from the lovely Nigel Slater's Kitchen Diaries!
Incidently, my mother's family were all assassinated (by the British military authorities!) a year before Partition, in Jammu, as her much older brother was a freedonm fighter whilst also holding office as a colonel in the British Army in Kashmir. She was orphaned as a small child.
*Oh! Today is my B'day! I don't normally celebrate it as one might expect, but I do always have both my late parents in mind, all day long. Those two beautiful people, who were ecstatic when I was born, and who loved me despite everything ~ that's what I celebrate. My thoughts are always of them on this day, my love & prayers always go out to them.

Just a little nymph, sitting on a honeysuckle leaft that he's probably damaged himself. If he didn't, then one of his siblings did. This species can do damage to desirable plants, but here, I always find them on invasive honeysuckle, so they're my friends. Having fought my way through, many a tangled mess of that stuff, anything that might help back it off a little is on my side!

one of my favorite poets of all time. most of her books are out of print and i have given up trying to get the ones i don't have on ebay. i never win those freaking auctions.
by James Thurber:
"Not so very long ago there was a very fine gander. He was strong and smooth and beautiful and he spent most of his time singing to his wife and children. One day somebody who saw him strutting up and down in his yard and singing remarked, "There is a very proper gander." An old hen overheard this and told her husband about it that night in the roost. "They said something about propaganda," she said. "I have always suspected that, " said the rooster, and he went around the barnyard next day telling everybody that the very fine gander was a dangerous bird, more than likely a hawk in gander's clothing. A small brown hen remembered a time when at a great distance she had seen the gander talking with some hawks in the forest. "They were up to no good," she said. A duck remembered that the gander had once told him he did not believe in anything. "He said to hell with the flag, too," said the duck. A guinea hen recalled that she had once seen somebody who looked very much like the gander throw something that looked a great deal like a bomb. Finally everybody snatched up sticks and stones and descended on the gander's house. He was strutting in his front yeard, singing to his children and his wife. "There he is!" everybody cried. "Hawk-lover! Unbeliever! Flag hater! Bomb thrower!" So they set upon him and drove him out of the country. Moral: Anybody who you or your wife thinks is going to overthrow the government by violence must be driven out of the country."
