Summer Solstice, 2020

Isle of Arran and Holy Isle

A beautiful, sunny day, today. Had a picnic next to the beach in Maidens, looking across Maidenhead Bay and the Firth of Clyde.

A couple of families were having a paddle in the water and some little kids were, at points, fully submersed! It was nice and warm BUT NOT THAT WARM! 20°C is not tropical! They did have a lot of fun, though.

SOLSTICE

SOLSTICE

To all my Flickr friends

The winter solstice is approaching. Here, it's a moment when the cold imposes a break suitable to looking further, beyond the clouds, where it all began.

The time has come to greet you all and thank you for sharing your passion for photography and art. Thank you for your support, some of you for many years. A very special thank you to Irina Dimulescu and Catherine Péré who encouraged me to move forward with my project - The Lands of Poësia - a project that will see the light of day, I hope, in 2023.

I wish you peace and serenity in the end of the year. Happy Holidays my friends.

Winter Solstice day last year was a frosty winter delight and I've realised that I only shared one image from it so here's another.

It's been a great year out with my camera, although challenging in other ways!

Thank you all for the friendship, humour and support.

Patrice

———-

People tell me that winter solstice is the gloomiest day of the year, the most symbolic for winter that freezes our souls. . .

Too bad for them.

Why not do like me?

In winter, I keep my inner light lit longer . . .

Patrice

Wanted to rework this image that I had previously posted. This image was taken during last winter's solstice. I had intended that morning to drive to Portage to take sunrise photos. It took me longer to drive than expected. I ended up having to pull over to this rest stop along the Seward highway.

Happy Solstice, Merry Christmas, & better luck next year!

Wishing you all a Wondrous Winter, and a revival of joy in the New Year!

“Morning has come, arise and greet the day!

Dance with joy and sing a song of gladness! …

A new day dawns, once more the gift is giv’n.

Wonder fills this moment shared together. …

Open our eyes to see that life abounds;

open hearts to welcome it among us.

The light of love here shines upon each face.

May it bring faith to guide our journey home.”

the winter solstice invites us to connect with nature in a quiet yet deep way. may you experience many moments of ordinary beauty on this day!

A blended shot with Lanyon Quoit in the foreground and the Milky Way an hour later. The orange glow on the left is the remains of the north-westerly sunset at midnight.

I was concentrating so much on the bright starry sky that I didn't notice the ground fog creeping in over the darkness and by the time I had finished I could barely find the path out to the road.

Midwinter - 21. December - Beginning of Winter: The shortest day - the longest night

_______________________________________________

Worldwide, interpretation of the event has varied from culture to culture, but most cultures have held a recognition of rebirth, involving holidays, festivals, gatherings, rituals or other celebrations around that time.

_______________________________________________

As the plant hellebore flowers under the snow - a sign of hope, a miracle of nature. You can show us and say that life goes on even under a blanket of pain, suffering and sorrow.

Interestingly, around the Christmas rose a similar legend, like the Poinsettia climbs. This legend tells how a shepherd went to Bethlehem, but could not bring any gift because of its poverty. Since it was winter not even grow flowers. He was very sad about it, but his tears turned to the earth in hellebores, he brought with him as a gift.

The Christmas rose, also called thistle or black hellebore, opened in December with its subtle creamy white, sometimes pink or greenish, bell-shaped goblets the Blütenreigen. "For me, the Christmas rose is the epitome of everything beautiful and innocent"

Christmas roses as a symbol of purity and innocence.

_______________________________________________

The Winter Solstice, also called Yule, is the shortest day and the longest night of the year. It occurs on 21 December in 2016 in the Northern Hemisphere, and marks the beginning of a gradual process of shortening nights and lengthening days.

Solstice moon rise impression. While sitting at the Beachcomber Restaurant on Saint Augustine Beach, FL, USA. A crazy and strange night and month. At my favorite place to eat in St Augustine. Good food, kids playground and dog friendly. It is placed right on the beach and very laid back...
