The Three Soldiers is a bronze statue on the Washington, DC National Mall commemorating the Vietnam War. It was created and designed to complement the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, by adding a more traditional component to the Memorial.

The Terracotta Army are the Terracotta Warriors and Horses of Shi Huang Di the First Emperor of China. The terracotta figures, dating from 210 BC, were discovered in 1974 by several local farmers near Xi'an, Shaanxi province, China near the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor. The figures vary in height (184–197cm - 6ft–6ft 5in), according to their role, the tallest being the Generals. Current estimates are that in the three pits containing the Terracotta Army there were over 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses and 150 cavalry horses, the majority of which are still buried in the pits.

This photo of Sue's dad was taken before he went off to WW2 where he served as a tank driver in a number of theatres. He was injured once but recovered and returned to live a caring. useful and fulfilling life. He passed away too young, at age 69, from conditions not related to his wartime injury.
This is what my daughter wrote about her grandfather on FB for Remembrance Day.
I’ve been thinking about my Grampa a lot lately. Maybe because I recently got to see the inside of a tank and even though I was told it was a lot “roomier” than the one that my Grampa drove through France and Italy, it was still MUCH too cramped for me to contemplate. How fortunate and grateful I am that Canadians like my grandfather went to war so I don’t have to.
Thank you to those who have, and do, serve.
