The solar plant we encountered at the outskirts of the Po delta somehow reflected the aesthetics of that landscape in a technical sphere; this endless borderless silence again.

As the question came up: this is just as it was. No retouche. Of course, i chose an angle for the shot which does not show the space between the collectors... The houses are part of the plant.

The Broken Hill Solar Plant Viewing Platform Art and Design Competition was produced in partnership with the Broken Hill Art Exchange and AGL for the 2017 Desert Equinox 'Sun & Earth', as a prelude to the Broken Hill Biennale of Art.

The viewing platform, opened in 2018, is called 'Earth and Sky', designed by Timothy Bauer. The competition winning design was the brainchild of an architect, recognised Birrel Scholar and award recipient in a number of design competitions.

Timothy Bauer has a passion for creating environmentally sensitive buildings with strong, innovative, and dynamic deisngs that connect people to places, and his winning design for this viewing platform - which is based on the concept of earth and sky - is no exception.

The structure represents the earth as Broken Hill's heritage as a rich mining community, and the sky as the possibility of an enlightened future. The dynamic facade produces and ever-changing interplay of light and shadow as a poetic notion of sunlight. As the viewer moves up the ramped pathway, a multitude of perspective offer a connection with the red earth and boundless sky surrounding the vast expanse of the solar installation.

Broken Hill's Solar Plant uses thin film photovoltaic module panels, commonly referred to as "PV modules". They are made out of advanced cadmium telluride. When the sun shines on them, they convert sunlight into electricity, which is then fed into the electrical grid. The electricity produced has no air emissions, no waste production, and no water use. The Broken Hill Solar Plant is connected to the National Electricity Market (NEM) which is managed by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO).

One of the largest determinates of the power output is whether the sun is shining directly at the face of the solar panels, or at an angle to them. When the sun shines directly onto the face of the panels, its output will be at its maximum, but when it is hitting the panels at an angle, the output is reduced. Typically, this means that the output of the Power Station ramps up as the sun rises over the day, hits peak output at midday, and falls gradually back to zero as the sun lowers in the sky over the rest of the day.

Experimental solar plant. The Mildura Solar Concentrator Power Station is a proposed 100 megawatt (MW) concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) solar PV system to be built at Carwarp, near Mildura, Victoria, Australia. It was proposed by Solar Systems,[2] which was acquired by Silex Systems in 2010. A 1.5 MW demonstration plant was commissioned in April 2013. Construction of the larger facility was expected to commence in 2014 and be completed in 2017.

The expansion plan was abandoned in August 2014 due to a number of factors. These included low wholesale electricity prices, a lack of commitment to clean energy by the Australian government and uncertainty surrounding the Renewable Energy Target (RET) in Australia. (Excerpt from Wikepedia)

The view north from Grass Mountain (4,605') in the Angeles National Forest shows the Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve (brown hills) and the windmills beyond. What looks like lakes out there are huge solar farms that were erected in the last few years, ripping up prime poppy habitat.

Clouds entering from right to left produced a powerful thunderstorm within the hour. This was taken looking north, a minute after the previous southward view.

One of my colleagues was a bit upset about the facilities people taking away his plants (on the grounds of them possibly carrying or spreading molds/mildew/fungi/diseases).

We decided to cheer him up a bit and give him a few alternatives.

I decided to donate my cluster of concentration rate limiters.

The 1MW power plant is built over 750 meters of a canal drawn as part of the Sardar Sarovar Project. Run by the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation, the solar plant uses polycrystalline solar module technology to generate 1.6 million units of clean electricity every year. The water body under the panels keeps them cool and provides 15% extra power when compared with other over-land panels.

40 people - coordinators, campaigners, media-folks and volonteers from 12 different countries – came together in the GP-Trainingcenter for Sustainability in Cudrefin, Switzerland, where the InternationalSolarCamp07 (by now a tradition) was organisized.

This year the Camp was combined with the 2nd SG-Skillshare. Besides the construction and installation of two solarplants (one PV and one with thermic absorbers), and a workshop, where volonteers from the YouthSolarProject showed how to construct a simple Solar-LED-Torch, plans were made for 2008 and for the COPMOP on Bali, coming December. Initiating new SG-Groups in countries like Indonesia or Mexico was also on the list.

In short: there was a super dynamic, with lots of laughing, solidarity and wild plans and common dreams. During this week the international spirit of SG was clearly felt. Great!!!

After the Camp some of the people went to take part in the Spencer Tunick Event (600 people standing naked on the famous Aletsch-Glacier as a silentt protest against climatechange), others went to join our crew at the 2nd NatureTalentFestival in Liestal. This 100% ecologically organized festival, organized by young people (with the support of GP) for young people, enables them to present their ideas about a future society, how to tackle environmental challenges, etc. It offers them a platform, where they can present films, cartoons, poetry, posters, etc. to a larger public. All the rest is music, music, music. This year GP also brought the Climbingwall, where one could hang his or her climate-message to the politicians, to really do somethng for our future climate.
