En esta obra está retratada María Rita Barrenechea y Morante, quien fue casada con el Conde del Carpio, quien tras el matrimonio recibió el título de Marqués de la Solana.
En este lienzo se reflejan las sensaciones que trae la cercanía de la muerte en un personaje sensible y culto.
La maestría de Goya resalta a la perfección y de manera frecuente en el que los trazos sorprenden por su calidad artística en la que predominan tonos negros, blancos y grises junto con rosas y lilas.
Siempre que visito un Museo fuera de España me gusta ver alguna pintura de nuestro país

Ruinas y paisaje./ Ruins and landscapes.
- La ruina tiene su especial atractivo como espacio de recuerdo, memoria y de testimonio del trabajo de otras épocas.
La Minería es una actividad, especialmente, significativa en el sentido de dar oportunidad a homenajear a los sufridos trabajadores que se dejaron la vida en ella.
El Sur de Ciudad Real, ya hemos visto en el Valle de Alcudia ( comentario 1 ), es un territorio, especialmente, rico en restos de una gran actividad industrial.
Minas Diógenes,fué un importante enclave minero, de extracción de plomo, desde 1940 a 1970. A partir de ahí, el proceso de destrucción de los pozos y del poblado ha sido fulminante.
En Otoño de 2016, hicimos una excursión intentando ver lo más posible del lugar. Fue difícil pero alguna foto, mejor o peor, sacamos. Voy a procurar mostrároslas.

- Situada en las inmediaciones de Sierra Morena y el Valle de Alcudia, su término municipal es de los más agrestes de la provincia.
Con un importante pasado minero, Minas Diógenes ( Ver comentario 1 ), la actividad actual se centra en la ganadería y en la explotación de la caza mayor.
Son zonas de escasa población pero muy ricas en paisajes y naturaleza perfectamente conservados.. Desde el punto de vista de la Ecología y Naturaleza es de lo mejo de la Península Ibérica.

IGLESIA DE SANTA CATALINA – LA SOLANA
Esta Iglesia ubicada en la Plaza Mayor,responde al estilo Gótico tardío aunque presenta elementos de otros estilos artísticos. Comenzó a construirse en 1420 pero, por diversos avatares, no se terminó hasta el año 1524. El templo tiene elementos del gótico tardío, renacentistas y barrocos. Del exterior destacan sus dos portadas. La norte o de Santa Catalina con un elementos herrerianos y la del sur o de Santiago. Especialmente destaca la del norte con una decoración entre renacimiento y barroco con formas armoniosas a bases de cuerpos de columnas, templete y tímpano semicircular completando el bello acceso al templo. Mención especial merece la Torre Campanario que data de 1765 culminada por un magnífico chapitel y la convierte en la más majestuosa de la provincia. La torre que hoy vemos estuvo precedida de otras dos que cayeron durante el siglo XVII. En su interior varias capillas laterales flanquean una nave de bóvedas estrelladas separadas por arcos fajones. En el siglo XVII también se construyó la torre del reloj completando una perspectiva más ornamental desde la Plaza Mayor.

La Solana nace, como otras tantas villas manchegas, fruto de la repoblación efectuada en el siglo XIII, alentada por las tres Órdenes Militares a las que fue donado el territorio que hoy comprende la provincia de Ciudad Real: Santiago, Calatrava y San Juan. No es por lo tanto una villa antigua "ganada a los moros", ni aun de las primeras en fundarse en la primera mitad de dicho siglo, pues existe una creencia, afirmada en escritos locales antiguos, que dan la fecha de 1283 como principio del poblamiento.
Construida como domicilio familiar por D. Juan Solans, industrial harinero, buscando estar cerca de su fábrica (Harinas Solans S.A.). El proyecto lo realizó el arquitecto Miguel Ángel Navarro, que también había participado en la construcción de la fábrica. Su diseño y la decoración aplicada es un magnifico ejemplo de arquitectura modernista en la que destacan por su vistosidad los paneles de azulejos polícromos levantinos de la fachada occidental, con las figuras de los signos del zodiaco y sus vidrieras venecianas.
El dueño de la casa nunca pudo disfrutar de esta joya arquitectónica ya que murió antes de que estuviera terminada. En el inmueble vivió la viuda hasta su fallecimiento.
El edificio sufrió un largo proceso de degradación pues estuvo deshabitado más de 20 años, soportando innumerables actos de vandalismo. Estuvo a punto de desaparecer bajo la piqueta al ser declarado en ruinas en 1995. La Gerencia de Urbanismo y el Servicio de Patrimonio Cultural Urbanístico del Ayto de Zgz. costearon su rehabilitación. Hasta 2014 fue la sede del Secretariado del Agua de Naciones Unidas. Actualmente está sin uso.
En 2002 fue declarado Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC).

- Las Tiñosas es una pedanía de Solana del Pino que, en la actualidad, está, prácticamente, en ruinas. Tuvo un pasado de esplendor en relación con la minería y, además, como importante enclave termal con un desaparecido balneario, unos habitáculos para los bañistas ( Los veremos ) y esta fuente de hierro por la que surge un pequeño chorro de " agua agria ".
- Las llamadas Agua Agrias son aguas fuertemente mineralizadas y ferruginosas con elevada cantidad de CO2. Tienen abundantes propiedades curativas para enfermedades de la piel, el riñón, hígado, etc. Emergen, abundantemente, en la zona volcánica del Campo de Calatrava y su máximo exponente es el Agua Agria de Puertollano, con su artística Fuente Agria construida en 1905.
Esta fuente de la imagen es una copia, en pequeño, de la de Puertollano. Se encuentra en medio del monte y es, casi, inlocalizable. Todo el lugar, situado en el Parque Natural del Valle de Alcudia, está sometido a fuertes litigios que amenazan su total desaparición. Por eso, os lo muestro.

From the Series - Apocalypse of the Himalayas -
Very seldom does one get to witness such apocalyptic displays of the setting sun in the Himalayas. The plains and the sea side get some immense ones. I was quite taken by surprise when this happened late one evening in June. It was a sudden storm brewing up and the clouds moving swiftly while the sun was beating a hasty retreat in the west ( and this is not even due west.). The storm front moved away in a matter of minutes.
Solan is a place midway between Kalka and Simla. Names that are familiar to people in North India as well as lovers of train journeys and the Raj era aficionados. It used to be a sweet slumbering township once but now in the maddening spiral of out of control population explosion, the concrete structures appear like ugly pock marks on the once pristine Himalayas.
This was shot not from the Himalayas but from the last mountain chain of the old Aravali mountains of India.. From the exact fault line of the two colliding mountains.

Esto sigue; al ver ese fruto de la apuesta a la esperanza en brazos, cuidado y arropado, añorado y acurrucado pero alentado a seguir... por suerte me digo ¡claro, la próxima no es la última estación! y tal vez lo intuyamos, pero no está mal que en este caso "Pino" nos lo recuerde y sitúe ¡¡¡y vale!!! ya que-como dice la canción "...ninguna bala parará este tren", pero sí -digo- se puede parar el tren bala.

Hace un tiempo,Paco Solana ( bajista de lapido, jean paul, S.U.E.) me compuso ésta canción con uno de mis tantos escritos que me encanta compartir con él...hoy por fin,he puesto imagen a esa preciosa canción.
Este es uno de esos detalles, que jamás se conseguirá con dinero...es por eso,que creo que éste no nos da la felicidad.Nos pueden ayudar,pero lo más importante se consigue por méritos propios.
La canción, no he consegido subirla entera,pero merece la pena escuchar...prometo subirla entera porque además creo que se queda justo en lo mejor...quién pensaría tales cosas narradas en voz.. xD

The Northern Gannet is a large seabird of the gannet family. Young birds are dark brown in their first year, and gradually acquire more white in subsequent seasons until they reach maturity after five years. Adults are 87-100 cm long and have a 165-180 cm wingspan. Their plumage is white with black wing tips. The bill is light bluish. The eye is light blue, and it is surrounded by bare, black skin. During breeding, the head and neck are brushed in a delicate yellow. They normally nest in large colonies, on cliffs overlooking the ocean or on small rocky islands. These birds are spectacular divers, plunging into the ocean at high speed. They mainly eat small fish which gather in groups near the surface. Although they are powerful and agile fliers, they are clumsy in takeoffs and landings. Old names for the Northern Gannet include solan, solan goose and solant bird.

De Jan van Gent is een vogel uit de familie van pelikaanachtigen. Grote sigaarvormige vogel met lange, smalle vleugels. De volwassenen zijn door formaat, kleur en tekening onmiskenbaar. Jonge vogels kunnen op het eerste gezicht op een grote pijlstormvogel lijken, maar zijn te herkennen aan een lange, spitse kop en snavel, spitse staart en karakteristieke bewegingen. Het volwassen uitzicht wordt pas in het vierde tot zesde jaar verkregen. De okergele kop is buiten het broedseizoen bleker. Volwassen dieren zijn circa 90-100 centimeter groot. En kunnen als ze hun vleugel volledig uitstrekken 170-180 cm breed zijn. Jan-van-genten broeden in de zomer op klippen op rotsige eilanden. De dieren overwinteren op zee, soms langs de kust. Net als Noordse stormvogels staan jan-van-genten erom bekend dat ze schepen volgen. Ze duiken op spectaculaire wijze naar vis.

Revoloteó y jugueteó en un arbusto a unos tres metros como sin importarle mi presencia. A pesar de su cercanía, no me fue fácil registrarla fuera de la tupida planta que recorría inquieta de extremo a extremo hasta que como por arte de magia voló a posarse completamente expuesta en esta percha como queriendo decir: Tome pues la foto rapidito que ya me voy.
Como recién llega del norte su color castaño aún no es tan visible pero a medida que avanzan los meses iniciales del año el color que les da su nombre será mucho más evidente incluso en pecho y coronilla en los machos.
Su alimento principal se compone de insectos, polillas, orugas y hasta pequeños frutos.
Other lovely warbler I managed to spot during my recent trip to Bahía Solano in the Colombian Pacific Coast. Initially I had trouble to register her due to its fast movements but fortunately decided to stop on this special place for a few for seconds before flying away.

Boca este del túnel nº15 "Sola Mojada" (solana mojada, según otras fuentes) del ferrocarril Directo Madrid-Burgos. próximo a la estación de Gascones-Buitrago (Madrid). No es una obra menor, se trata de 1.035 m. horadados en la Sierra Norte de Madrid con una capacidad para doble vía que no llegó a aprovecharse mientras estuvo en servicio.
En realidad su realización fue una modificación del proyecto original con la que se sustituyeron los dos túneles a medio construir de La Solana y de Navamojada, que discurrían por un trazado en curva más pronunciada hacia el sur.

Solaň is a summit in Vsetinske Vrchy, in The eastern part of Czech Republic. It is located near town Rožnov pod Radhoštěm and is a perfect place to start a trip in these mountains. There is also here a new wooden bell-tower, in which there is a Tourist Information and a Gallery of Art. From a trail around Solaň there are beautiful views to Beskydy Mountains.

“Then the Giant butterfly flew” and I was ready.😊 Wall creeper. Unmistakable, but difficult to spot on rock faces. Spectacular in flight, with broad black, pink, and white-spotted wings resembling a giant butterfly. Usually found on rock faces in high mountainous regions, but also breeds in steep gorges lower down and can even be found on tall buildings in winter. Megaptera novangliae: Este gigante mamífero marino se alimenta en los polos donde se encuentra su alimento principal, el Krill. Entre julio y final de octubre llegan a Bahía Solano para aparearse, parir y amamantar a sus crías. Realizan impresionantes saltos y coletazos para llamar la atención de sus parejas. Presenciar este espectáculo natural es algo que nunca se olvidará. El ALMEJAL es pionero en Colombia en Avistaje turístico de ballenas.
Looking out from the Staple Newk viewpoint at Bempton Cliffs this Gannet popped his/her head up briefly a few metres away to take a look at the people looking at them... :)
The Himalayas are ever changing, fluid and dynamic in its infinite shape and ever growing size.
Habitations too.
Now concrete boxes are fast innundating the hill sides with their flat boxy shapes and their ugliness. Not the hillsides one knew once. This is Solan , midway from Kalka to Simla.
At about 10 AM, the sun could just about break the hazy somnolence of the mountainside

I walked the narrow streets of Solan in Himachal Pradesh, with not much weight on my shoulders. The weather is always amiable in the hills even though the plains of India scorch and burn with ferocious heat.
The maker of shoes or rather "jootis" - slipon, unlaced low heeled decorative leather wear sat with comfortable ease on a makeshift cabin of sorts near the Middle Bazaar in Solan as he applied a layer of adhesive with consummate ease to finish the making. He had a stack full of already made jootis and other bric a brac like steel tumbler locks, the presence of which I could not quite figure out.
I never really did notice it then but saw it only later. I wish I had as that would have given the story a meaningful anchor point.

As a youngster one of the first birds I can remember seeing was a Gannet effortlessly overtaking the ferry taking us to Islay in Scotland. Not long after I was on a boat near Bass Rock in the Firth of Forth with them diving into the water all around us for fish and I was hooked.
Over the years I've learnt its official name was Northern Gannet and its scientific name became Morus bassanus, (I still prefer the more evocative local name of Solan Goose and Sula bassana)
I can spend hours at Bempton Cliffs watching them soar back and forth, its probably just as well I don't live closer or I'd be there a lot more than once a year !
The development of my photography skills could probably be tracked through all my old Gannet photos right back to trying to convince the family that the white specs taken with a basic point and shoot film camera at Bass Rock were birds !
Forest fires are quick and fast. They devour grass and dry organic matter of the mountain chains in minutes. Here is a view of a distant hill side engulfed by a chain of fire that is visible on the front side here but it is apparent that behind that mountain chain is also another fire that is throwing up the light on the smoke.
In the forefront are houses which must be a few kms away as the crow flies. Since this has been shot with a telescopic lens there has been a great amount of fore shortening. This must be a good 8-12 kms away from where it was shot,.
Notes on Photography
This has been mounted on a tripod and shot with the mirror up to prevent the vibration of the shutter. Shot at 190 mm on a telescopic lens the smallest vibration gets amplifed to a large extent. Keeping the shutter open for long durations makes the fire too fuzzy and the play of air currents makes the imagery a tad uncertain. This has been shot at 4 seconds with an ISO of 800. If it was shot at ISO 200 , the shutter speed were well near 8 -13 seconds and the results not as good as one would want.The image still has a blur in spite of all the steps taken here.

Meet Solan (Sole) the broken robot. He was supposed to be fixed but ended up forgotten and stored in the backyard for several years unassembled. Some of his parts were stolen, some lost or used for some other purpose, and there aren't many left. But the robot was still functionnal, he talks and enjoys sunlight and company. His memory isn't quite intact so that he doesn't remember his real name - it has been written somewhere on his body but that part must be missing. Sole is the name Devin gave him when he found the poor fellow in the ruins of an abandoned temple. And of course Devin showed him to Rei. And Rei decided that he should be taking care of him, hoping he would find some spare parts to build Sole's body back.
That's basically the story. That's why Rei's hands are on the picture, and damn I wish I could have Devin as a doll as well ><

About Kalka-Shimla Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Mountain Railway : The Kalka-Shimla Railway is a 2 ft 6 in (762 mm) narrow gauge railway in North-West India travelling along a mostly mountainous route from Kalka to Shimla. It is known for dramatic views of the hills and surrounding villages. The 1,676 mm (5 ft 6 in) broad gauge Delhi-Kalka line opened in 1891. The Kalka–Shimla Railway was build on 2 ft (610 mm) narrow gauge tracks by the Delhi-Ambala-Kalka Railway Company beginning in 1898. Because of the high capital and maintenance costs and peculiar working conditions, the Kalka-Shimla Railway was allowed to charge higher fares than on other lines.
In 2007, the government of Himachal Pradesh declared the railway a heritage property. For about a week starting on 11 September 2007, an expert team from UNESCO visited the railway to review and inspect it for possible selection as a World Heritage Site. On 8 July 2008, the Kalka-Shimla Railway became part of the World Heritage Site Mountain Railways of India. Alongside Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, Nilgiri Mountain Railway, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus.
