Spaced out in my apartment in Bothell. No such thing as too many bright colors, too many technical books, or too many lava lamps. I can't say I love every single book on those shelves, but you can't go wrong with Advanced Programming in the Unix Environment.

DSC_0572: Playing around with self portraiture. Nikon D7100 and Nikkor 18-300mm. I usually don't take a lot of pics of myself, or people in general, since I think I'm not very good at it. Plus, I don't think I take that great a portrait -- sort of like listening to a recording of your own voice: it always sounds weird when you listen to it yourself. This one I like though.

Frances Elizabeth Holberton (1917 – 2001) was one of the six original programmers of the computer, ENIAC. The other five ENIAC programmers were Jean Bartik, Ruth Teitelbaum, Kathleen Antonelli, Marlyn Meltzer, and Frances Spence.

Holberton invented breakpoints in computer debugging. In software development, a breakpoint is an intentional stopping or pausing place in a program, put in place for debugging purposes. It is also sometimes simply referred to as a pause.

More generally, a breakpoint is a means of acquiring knowledge about a program during its execution. During the interruption, the programmer inspects the test environment (general purpose registers, memory, logs, files, etc.) to find out whether the program is functioning as expected. In practice, a breakpoint consists of one or more conditions that determine when a program's execution should be interrupted. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betty_Holberton

Craig Nicol - Technologist - Amor Public Services

Craig is one of our technologists in the Public Services sector. Coming from a role as a research programmer with Edinburgh University, he is a C# whizz, and involved in building resilient software architectures that can easily adapt to change.

As a proud geek, he (naturally) has various projects scattered across the web... found on Google Code and Vimeo (take a look…), and has been known to talk about computers and education.

On a belief that you can't talk enough about code (or have enough pizza), he set up and helps to run TechXchange - our monthly real-world developer 'hangout'.

My boys are selling a game called Quarx that they created for the Xbox Live Marketplace Community Games.

It’s a fun and challenging puzzle game that’s very addictive!

My oldest son Bryan is a software engineer and he did the programming.

My younger son Brad is in school for 3D computer animation and he did the artwork.

Quarx on Facebook

I am Quarx!

Senthil was a most remarkble stranger. When I asked him for a photo, he was completely surprised. What, he exclaimed, my face is awful, why do you want a photo of it!

We talked a lot about the Project, and even though I gave Senthil a card quite early in our conversation, he insisted I gave him my phone number and he even took a photo of myself with his mobile – which is only fair of course! Isn't that a cool reaction!

Senthil was a most friendly guy, and very curious about the Project. He wanted to see photos I'd already taken, he asked how other people react to my approach, and he even asked what traffic my photos cause and what description I was gonna add to his portrait.

He was a little unsure about his photo being taken, but in the end, he agreed to it. Today, he even called me and I think we'll go and grab a coffee one of these days.

Senthil is originally from India and a software engineer working for Mercedes.

Thank you, Senthil, for participating in my Project!
