Social Determinants of Health refers to the conditions in which a person is born, lives, learns, works, plays, and ages. Health disparities and inequities are also caused by SDOH. The ICD-10-CM encounter reason codes, which range from Z55-Z65, are used to document SDOH data (e.g., food insecurity, transportation, housing, etc.). Experienced sign-writers at the roadside use large letters and short pleas. This one is hard to read at 5 feet away. So cars paused at the stop light will unlikely be able to see this. But then the message could be made just for the person's own self; something sardonic or wistful. No matter the circumstances, when a person has no fixed abode, is at the mercy of the natural elements, and seeks help from passing strangers, that means the social fabric is shredded.
