Is Scaredy Cat or Crybaby home?

As dusk settles over the Ridgeview Lodge, the remaining glow of the day spills into a warm wooden haven adorned with lush greenery. Moths dance in the soft light around an oil heater, their whimsical patterns carefully observed by a vigilant canine companion. Amid this creative sanctuary, a kitty claims the desk chair as its own, surrounded by an eclectic mix of inspirations for the new year—there's a guitar waiting to strum melodies, healing crystal ornaments for cosmic inspiration, and drawing supplies, all crowned by an enticing frosted donut.

With a playful resolve, it's time to engage in a friendly tug-of-war with the kitty for the coveted chair, setting the stage for a delightful start to New Year's resolutions in the snug embrace of Ridgeview Lodge. Laughter, creativity, and the promise of new beginnings fill the air, making this cozy space the perfect setting for a joyous leap into the year ahead.

The two Snuffleupagus are placed in an interesting position. Elmo doesn't notice, or doesn't care.

I shot this only to see how my new phone's camera does in places like this. There are some good colors and details.

Started working on a giant sesame street collab... we need a few more good men to go on this!

Spring Break 2015: "and finally, the tortoise"

April 8, 2015: Another Spring Break, another visit to Valley of Fire.

So this is where Snuffy went or is this Alice??? LOL

One of my favorite characters on Sesame Street :D

Galactic Handling and Logistics is a equal opportunity employer, and we don't discriminate species, religion, education levels, gender(s), colour choice or tastes in music.

Even our tiniest employees make big contributions to the company. Pictured here is Tim "Tiny" Liliputian, who works in the Hazardous Materials and Bomb Disposal unit, with his SNUFFLEUPAGUS package sniffer.

Remember, at Galactic Handling and Logistics, we pay you according to work done, not the size of your parking space.

Happy 40th Birthday, Sesame Street!

“The Gum Thief” ―Douglas Coupland, 2007

“A few years ago it dawned on me that everybody past a certain age ... pretty much constantly dreams of being able to escape from their lives. They don't want to be who they are any more. They want out. This list includes Thurston Howell the Third, Ann-Margret, the cat members of Rent, Václav Havel, space shuttle astronauts and Snuffleupagus. It's universal.”

The lens on my Lumix G1 is a homemade tilt/shift bellows lens made from milled aircraft aluminum, a bellows from a Honda motorcycle shock tower, and a Wollensak 135mm enlarger lens. The rod at the bottom of the lens is actually a clutch cable threaded through a rubber sleeve to provide some strength to the bellows (so it doesn't flop over when walking with it). The enlarger lens can be swapped out for other elements and the rear mount is actually an M42 thread mated to a Nikon F mount. The entire lens was engineered and built by my father based on some loose ideas a sketches from me.

I've blogged about it at www.fridaysushi.com/2009/09/the-snuffleupagus.html

Shot of a DIY Mamiya 80mm tilt shift manual bellows lens mounted to the Lumix G1 body with an RJ Camera M-mount to micro 4/3 adapter mated to Nikon to M-mount adapter also from RJ Camera.

"Streets of Gold" by Needtobreathe

I want you to know

I’m leaving to let you go

One day we’ll walk upon

Streets of gold

I don’t remember seeing fear in your eyes

When you were fading

The day we said our goodbyes

It’s easy to say that there’s a reason for this

Much harder to know

That what we say is true

Everything we hold could someday slip away

I want you to know

I’m leaving to let you go

And someday we’ll walk upon

The streets of gold

Running through your veins was a slow-ticking clock

Counting down the days

And no one could make it stop

All of the time that it takes to figure it out

Could be the moments

That you can’t live without

Everything we hold could someday slip away

I want you to know

I’m leaving to let you go

And someday we’ll walk upon

The streets of gold

The trouble with love is that it comes to an end

I’ve got a feeling I’m gonna find you again

Just in a place where love can’t die

I want you to know

I’m leaving to let you go

And someday we’ll walk upon

The streets of gold

Bronx Zoo--made explore today---though way down on the list...

Some of Utah's rock features have names that require a little squinting and creative interpretation to see - not so the elephant Snuffleupagus.

Spring Break 2015: "and finally, the tortoise"

April 2, 2015: A loop hike up Third Ravine and back down Second; St George, Utah.

Grover, Ernie, Bert, Big Bird, The Count, Snuffleupagus and Cookie Monster toys by Fisher Price. Made in the 1970s when Sesame Street was new to television.

Just in time for some made-up holiday, Sesame Street introduces S&M Elmo, one of a new line of fuzzy, loveable Muppets, including such soon-to-be favorites as Skanky-Ho Mz. Piggy, Crackhead Ernie, Snorting Snuffleupagus, Grover the Groper, and Jack Paedophiliack.

For Halloween this year I thought I would draw a picture of Bert & Ernie dressed up as He-Man and Orko! Snuffleupagus is in on the action too!

Snuffleupagus in front of the mythical Mount Ihu Papa'a Lo'ihi Nui, aka Mount Snuffleupagus.

On my way up Hwy. 1, I saw a whole bunch of cars and people on one of the turnouts, then a sign about the Elephant Seal colony and decided to turn around and go check it out. They're not that attractive, but they are entertaining, nonetheless, except when they're sleeping, which they do most of the time.

They spend the rest of their time making a sound that sounds like belching, fighting or play-fighting. The young ones that play-fight are really cute, as is the male in this shot, but he is the only one that I saw doing this. Just before I shot this, he lifted his head and belched at the one on the right, then laid his head back down, when the one on the right decided not to press the issue.

I thought at first that the largest of them were scarred from fighting, but I finally got a closeup shot of them and figured out that they just happened to be moulting. I'm not sure what causes their necks to be pink, but I really hope that that's not from fighting.

One of the most fun play sets. There are trapdoors, slides, a merry-go-round, a spinning doorway, and a moving walkway! My little one could spend all day playing with this one!

Early Childhood educators have a saying: it's the process, not the product. This little group had fun hatching the eggs, but they were quite careful not to let a single bit enter their mouths. It all awaits Bruno the Trashman, now.

More "Sesame" scenes...

I had envisioned finding this animal out on the dry grassland so was surprised but happy to see one on the banks of the Omi River at Bolivia's Barba Azul Nature Reserve.

The thick vegetation was not the best for photography but we did get great views of it, one of four sightings during our stay.
