Macro Mondays theme: Swag
After sorting through a pile of totally non-photogenic bumph, I decided to photograph my Macro Monday's sizing tools. The SWAG is the six inch SNAP-ON TOOL ruler that I use daily for lots of things. The full text reads "Compliments of your SNAP-ON TOOL dealer". It is photographed on a three inch square piece of blue felt I cut shortly after joining the Macro Monday's group. I use it to set up my shots or to hold in front of the camera to get an idea of how much is allowed. Both very useful.

No information on the camera except loaded with 400 speed film. No expiration date.
This Snap-On Tools truck was parked on my street so I took some pics. Looks like the style of the artist Big Daddy Ed Roth. This is actually by artist Dirty Donny Gillies.

1950's...For sale along I-25 south of Buffalo, WY.
The International Harvester Metro Van was a step van, aka wall-in or multi-stop delivery truck. These vans were commonly used as milk or bakery delivery trucks. Some other uses were as ambulances, mobile offices, and radio transmitter vans. The driver could stand or sit while driving the ½, ¾, or 1-ton panel truck. The chassis cab variation could be configured with a separate box or container for cargo transport or left open to be fitted with other equipment.
The Metro Van was produced in the US from 1938-1975 and sold internationally. One of the first models built was sold to the Czechoslovakian Army and destroyed by the German Army during WWII. The Metro bodies were built by the Metropolitan Body Company in Bridgeport, Connecticut. In 1948 International Harvester purchased this company in 1948. The original design was by Raymond Loewy of Studebaker and Coke bottle frame. Loewy was involved with several designs during his association with International Harvester.
The overall design was somewhat unchanged from 1938-1964. In order to be competitive with the Boyertown and Hackney vans, the in house team in the Chicago Metro plant redesigned it. Some of the changes were squared corners, opening hood, and an eight-cylinder engine.

My boyfriend is off work for a few days and was sorting his tools out today, as I have no inspiration at all I photographed a set of his sockets. I photographed some of his tools one day last year for Project 366.
I think he must have caught the photography bug himself as he is now photographing his spanners.
He is a bit of a tool snob and will only buy Snap-On tools.

... of some rusty, dancing, acrobatic and seemingly magical bolts ...
I worked on a Nissan pickup today, and per normal routine, I put the sockets, ratchets, and bolts in a tray ... I noticed several of the bolts were standing upright, and I thought it was kinda strange ... and kinda cool ... do you know what caused this strange phenomenon ???
this is a combination of about six different lighting sources in my shop ...
after thinking about this for a bit, I'm wondering if I have too much time on my hands ???

With just the cab and the hood to be bolted in place, the big tractor mofel is almost done. Also the duel wheels need mounting.
this is an über mini version of the otherwise ginormous Snap-On Tools truck/van... if this isn't a Construction "Toy", I don't know what is!

I admire the way Snap On Tools brand has changed with the times, while maintaining its core values of providing exceptional, American-made products and personal service to their mechanic clients. The company’s stance of overarching support for those who work with their hands is appealing to me as an artist, because I also highly value this kind of work. As a woman, I appreciate that Snap On Tools has encouraged mechanics to gain the trust of their female clients, and has let their “girlie” calendars become a thing of the past. These initiatives are timely, as young women are increasingly encouraged to enter this “man’s world,” due to a dearth of young mechanics entering the marketplace.
With a nod to Social Realism, this painting portrays a female character of my invention, Flora, on whom I have based a series of previous works. Like the Snap On logo, she leans forward into the future she is creating for herself. She makes progress toward the American dream, intrepid in spite of obstacles that may be in her way. An evolution of the Snap On calendar girls of the past, Flora has a bright-eyed optimism, and she won’t shrink from hard work or challenges.

My father had a repair shop, Laureleaf gas station in Monteview, Idaho, and sold Snap-on-Tools in 1951. He used his Oldsmobile for selling and delivering tools.
