My husband and I showed up here before sunrise , and as expected there were a hundred photographers with the same idea . It is a beautiful place , worthy of the oohs and aahhs it gets . You just had to wiggle in with your tripod and get ready .

Canadian Pacific AC4400CW No. 9620 leads a southbound (westbound) Union Pacific grain train across UP’s massive bridge over the Snake River at Joso, Washington, on September 21, 2015.

I had been waiting for this moment for a long time. In 2013 the park was closed because of the government shutdown (don't get me started). Last year, clouds rain and snow kept the Tetons hidden while we were there. This year - bingo! While the sky did not light up much, the mountains sure did! It was a sight to behold and well worth the wait and cold temperatures!

Arrived before sunrise at Oxbow Bend, Grand Teton National Park. By the time I took this shot the fog had mostly lifted, with only a bit of 'steam' left at the river level. There are a number of great spots to check here and a variety of shots from each location . . . Expect crowds . . . .

The Snake is, of course, the Snake River and the Grand Tetons are in the background in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. You can't find a bad view along this stretch of highway between Jackson and the entrance to the Grand Teton National Park. (Edited in Lightroom, Photoshop and Topaz)

Grand Teton Natrionalpark, Wyoming, USA

Returned from a 10 day trip to Grand Teton National Park and a return visit to Yellowstone to cover the area that we did not get to see in June.

Even though this is not the traditional reflection shot of Mt. Moran, I liked the fall colors being lit up by the sun.

Sunrise at Oxbow Bend in Grand Teton National Park

We were at this iconic location to welcome the morning, along with over 100 other photographers.

Unbelievable! People were elbow to elbow and tripod legs against tripod legs. Never seen anything like it.

Yeah, I know! But it truly is a magical place, with the gorgeous autumn colors, the cool still air and water, the haunting elk bugles in the distance and the wondrous way the sunrise dances across the clouds - who can resist?

The Snake River at Oxbow Bend in Grand Teton National Park in September. This was taken next to Colter Bay Village on a day trip from Yellowstone National Park. The two parks are right next to each other. This is about 45 minutes from Grant Village. All the villages in the park are about a 45 minute drive apart. They were stagecoach stops long ago to change horses or spend the night. It may have been as far as they could go in a day at ten miles per hour. #NPS #GrandTetonNationalPark #Wyoming #NationalParkService #mountains #Berge #montagnes #nature #Natur #outdoors #scenic #snowcaps #clouds #OxbowBend #SnakeRiver #SommetsEnneigĆ©s #Schneekappen #nuages #Wolken #雲 #å±± #川 #Fluss #fleuve #landscape #Landschaft #paysage #景色

The wind was picking up some but the reflections of Mt. Moran and nearby Teton peaks were still worth a shot. Easy to see why this bend in the Snake River is considered the most iconic and popular location for Teton image hunters.

Enjoy a wonderful Friday and weekend!

Oxbow Bend at Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, USA. Taken a few minutes after sunrise. I have prepared this photograph as if I only had a second to look at the scene as I passed and only caught a glimpse. [FA]

I hit the fall foliage bonanza this fine day at the Teton's Oxbow Bend of the Snake River. Lots of smiles this day.

"Oxbow Bend in Grand Teton National Park is without a doubt the most photographed place in the entire park. The image of the Snake River with Mount Moran's reflection is iconic and is probably the most recognized image of Grand Teton National Park throughout the world. To give you an idea of just how popular this image is, it's comparable to Old Faithful Geyser in Yellowstone Park or Wild Goose Island on St. Mary Lake in Glacier National Park. This classic image has been photographed millions of times, and you can bet that when you first lay your eyes on this spectacular view, you'll be snapping photos too!

Oxbow Bend in Grand Teton National Park is located just a little over a mile straight east of the Jackson Lake Junction on Highway 89. You can't miss it- it's where the Snake River gets extremely wide and Mount Moran is seen reflecting in the calm water in all it's glory." enjoyyourparks.com

A photo from my trip to Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone in the Fall of 2019. I definitely need to go back!

A short few minutes of sunshine in an otherwise grey and rainy day on the road to Jackson, Wyoming, USA.

We arrived before sunrise at Oxbow Bend at The Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, USA. The scene was already elbow-to-elbow photographers. As we waited for the sun to come up severals bus loads of tourists arrived and emptied out their cargo of passengers who ran amok among us. Of the many shots on this morning, this one was taken perhaps 30 minutes or so after sunrise. My original 'finished' work can be seen at: www.flickr.com/photos/bobcarter/26791059751/in/album-7215...

This is one of the "pillars" at Pillar Falls, Idaho.

I shot this photo last year, and just couldn't get happy with it. I'm not sure I'm happy with it now but, figured what the hell and why not.

Pillar Falls is located in central southern Idaho right at the base of the city of Twin Falls. Home to all kinds of crazy adventurers like Base jumpers jumping off the Perrine Bridge and Evil Knievel's failed attempt at jumping the Snake River Canyon on a rocket bike.

It is a familiar site to all those that canoe and kayak to Shoshone Falls just a short distance upstream as Pillar Falls is a portage location on that trip.

For those interested in a sense of scale There is a man standing on his boat fishing in this image. Right edge of frame at the waterline.

A magnificent bull elk pauses as he is about to cross the deep water portion of the Snake River. Taken in Grand Teton National Park off of Oxbow Bend Road. I love how the early morning sun lights of the tips of his antlers and face.

Every now and then nature offers you a window to perfection.

Oxbow Bend, Wyoming

The Grand Teton is the highest point of the Teton Range, and the second highest peak in the U.S. state of Wyoming after Gannet Peak. The mountain is entirely within the Snake River drainage basin, wich it feeds by several local creeks and glaciers. The Teton Range is a subrange of the Rocks Mountains, which extend rom souther Alaska to northern New Mexico.

Early morning fog zooms in across the Snake River in Wyoming.

Taken along Oxbow Bend in the Grand Teton National Park.

Fall foliage was in it's prime this fine day. Ducks were swimming by in the Oxbow Bend section of the Snake River. Mt. Woodring and Mt. Moran were looming large in the distance. I was here a week earlier and couldn't even see the foothills due to low clouds and fog. Today I hit the bonanza (thanks Debbie!).

First light on Mount Moran reflected in the Snake River from the Oxbow Bend Overlook in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming.

We entered Yelloswtone NP early in the morning. After a night full of rain the sky had cleared over the Snake River but the moisture had created a beautiful layer of mist.

Pretty view along Oxbow Bend in the Grand Teton National Park.

A spring thunderstorm dumps some rain on the Idaho side of the Hell's Canyon seen from the Oregon side. Nice and green this time of year but will soon be dry and brown. Some say the Hell's Canyon was so named due to the high heat that builds up in the basalt and sedimentary cliffs down along the Snake River that does not cool off much at night during the hot summer months. Having experienced that heat I understand. However the most common and established thought for the name is that passage with any watercraft thru the canyon on the Snake River was deadly and nearly impossible. The name stuck but to me the area isn't hellacious but imposing and majestic.

Thanks for taking a look, always appreciated.

Enjoy a safe and wonderful Easter holiday weekend.

Another picture I rediscovered while downloading and backing up this weekend. Took this in late June of 2014, which surprised me because I've stopped here a few times over the years and the light has always been terrible. Here I was shooting almost into the sun, and didn't like this picture back then, but now that I've learned a little about editing, didn't take much to get this image looking pretty good. This is the Snake River as seen below the bridge (there's a scenic view area there) going into Twin Falls, Idaho.

My little Sony NEX5R always impressed me with the quality of it's pictures. I gave this camera to my daughter so she could take pictures of my only granddaughter at the time. Funny thing is she didn't get serious about photography until I gave her my Sony a7. Sure glad I did.

The same bull elk as seen in Snake River Crossing is now swimming the main channel in the river with only his head and antlers above the water. As seen off the Oxbow Bend Road in Grand Teton National Park.
