Lots of small snail on the Oak leaves yesterday. I didn't notice the damage to this one until I was processing the image.

I finally decided to delete a lot of photos and free up disk space. I also found some photos that I completely forgot about, so now I'm sorting out the files as well.

This is one beautiful bird that you don't see very often. I believe it's on the endangered list and its main food is Pomacea snails.

A very wet day led to the lights being put on at 3.30 pm - IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER!!??!! The snails were loving it.

Snail kites inhabit marsh habitats in both the Everglades of south Florida and shorelines of lakes in central Florida. They frequently can be seen slowly flying along the shorelines seeking their primary food item, the apple snail. At other times, you may see a kite perched on a clump of cattail or in a willow tree. During droughts, kites may disperse from their traditional range in the Everglades and larger lakes from Lake Okeechobee north to Lake Tohopekaliga and show up at smaller lakes and marshes throughout south and central Florida. Snail kites nest during February to August in Florida. During the nonbreeding season, kites may form large communal roosts in both cattail and willow stands where they can be seen flying into the site 1-2 hours before sunset.

It is along the margins of Lakes Okeechobee, Kissimmee and Tohopekaliga where most boaters or anglers may see a snail kite.

I found this female in Osceola County, Florida on Lake Kissimmee.

Our garden is filled with these little snails at the moment - you can see their trails everywhere, but they find shady spots to hide in the daytime. This one was overturned on the path... I set him upright after taking the picture, before he suffered too much in the sunshine :).

I played with Nik Efex again with this one, using the analog plug in. I've been going through a LOT of vintage photographs recently, so this effect looks pretty normal to me at the moment!

Zerene Stacker 120 subs. Two speed lights - snoot to the right and reflector bowl with grid about 30 degrees off-axis to left. The shell is 2.25 inches in greatest dimension.

We found this beautiful shell several years ago in Myakka State Park, which consists mostly of a freshwater marsh. My semi-educated guess is that this is an Apple Snail shell. The Florida apple snail is 2-3 inches in size, consistent with this specimen of 2.25 inches. There are four exotic species that are highly invasive, and are now widespread throughout freshwater ecosystems in Florida. They were introduced in the 1980s through the aquarium trade.

I have seen this sort of image before, I have been waiting for the right moment when a snail arrives in my garden, and after doing a bit of gardening a rose head fell off, I thought this is my chance to have a go at reflected photography.
