Queen Anne cherries are also known as Royal Ann cherries or Napoleon. They are usually used for commercial canning and for making maraschino cherries.
These cherries are sweet and light colored. They can be eaten just as they are or used for cooking. They are mostly found in Michigan and Oregon.
They are similar in taste and appearance to Rainer cherries and it is hard to tell them apart if they are not labeled.
Cherries, in general, contain anthocyanins, the red pigment in berries. Cherry anthocyanins have been shown to reduce pain and inflammation. Anthocyanins are also potent antioxidants.
After blueberries and raspberries and Queen Anne cherries are my favorites.
