Jackie is a visual artist living and working in Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin. As a graphic designer Jackie manipulated type, letters and words into logo's and symbols using paper and ink. As an artist, she manipulates thoughts, meanings and ideas to create three dimensional objects using clay, glass, metal and found objects.
Today I experimented with a Sigma 180mm lens mounted on a Sony A7RM2 body using a Metabones adaptor.
This combination of equipment does not work in Auto-Focus mode so I had to use manual focusing and this was not easy but it certainly would have been impossible without focus peaking [a feature that I have never properly employed before]. In case you are unaware focus peaking is a tool to assist you while manual focusing. Focus peaking highlights the areas that are in focus so you are able to quickly focus the camera and not miss crucial shots. However, focus peaking is not as easy as it sounds because it shows you what's sharp on the viewfinder screen, not what's sharp in the actual image. Since the screen or viewfinder has a much lower resolution than the actual camera sensor areas that are highlighted as being sharp in the viewfinder can be very much out of focus in the image you actually capture.

Weil wir echt sind. Wie wir uns begegnen, reden und lachen. Kein Smalltalk, der nervt. Keine unwichtigen Dinge was man macht oder tut. Herzensdinge. Träume. Wünsche. Sorgen. Ängste. Ganz frei raus. Das können wir. Das können wir richtig gut. So unwirklich erscheint es uns, dass wir wir sein können. Kein Schauspiel. Keine Maske. Ganz ungeschminkt. Es ist magisch. Du verzauberst mich. Deine Sogwirkung ist so extrem. Ich kann mich kaum dagegen wehren. Spüre wie du meine Lippen ansiehst. Deinen Blick, der mir sagt. Dich will ich, aber mein Körper ist gelähmt. Gefangen in sich selbst. Wahnsinnig macht es mich. Wollen und nicht können. Weil man ist wie man ist. Es manchmal nicht ändern kann, obwohl man will.
Und ich würde wollen. Wie gern würde ich deine Hand nehmen. Dir in die Augen sehen. Alles wäre gesagt. Ohne ein Wort zu verlieren. Du würdest mich verstehen. Meine Zuneigung. Meine Faszination. Diese Magie, wie in dieser Nacht. Du elektrisierst mich. Mit deiner Stimme. Mit deiner Mimik und selbst wenn du schweigst. Und vor allem dann wenn du glaubst ich würde nicht merken, dass du mich ansiehst. Dich genauso verzehrst, es leben willst. Jetzt. Hier. Und doch bleibt es diese zarte Berührung. Ein Bier zwischendurch. Viele Geschichten. Eine von mir. Eine von Dir. Und vor allem Anziehung, weil wir uns so ähnlich sind. In allem. Was wir leben. Wollen. Lieben.
Nur nicht uns. Weil wir nicht können. Wir sind wie wir sind. Es bleibt dieser magische Gedanke. Es wäre schön mit uns. Ein bisschen verkopft, ein bisschen verrückt, ein bisschen magisch, aber vor allem authentisch. Lass uns wenigstens träumen. Das können wir.

A 4x10 in combination with a 450mm or even 600mm would lead to a closer view. But the danger of getting arrested also increases - the life-guard was not amused when he had to leave his watch tower to check the strange guy with the ancient camera. Fortunately he was interested in film photography so we had a little smalltalk and I could finish the image demonstrating the tool :-)

Heute Morgen treffe ich im Flüchtlingsheim diesen jungen Mann mit dem Namen Khalid.
Nach mehreren Anläufen, seinen Vor- und Nachnamen korrekt auszusprechen (wir lachen dabei sehr viel) und ein bisschen Smalltalk kommen wir auf seine Heimat zu sprechen: Mogadischu.
Die Hauptstadt Somalias verließ Khalid schon vor längerer Zeit. Seine Eltern wurden beide erschossen, erzählt er mir. Beide Eltern. Erschossen.
Manchmal fehlt mir in solchen Situationen einfach das richtige Wort, sodass ich nichts weiter dazu sage, außer mein Beileid zu bekunden, das nicht mehr als ein „I’m sorry“ ist.
Ich frage Khalid, wie er es nach Europa geschafft habe. Nach einigen Reisen habe er mit einem Schlauchboot übergesetzt. Mit 140 anderen Flüchtlingen. Sieben von Ihnen wären auf der 7-tätigen Fahrt gestorben.
Schon wieder solch krasse Erlebnisse. Klar, ich „weiß“ von solch schrecklichen Begebenheiten, mach andere Flüchtlinge haben mir davon berichtet. Jedoch vergesse ich meist diese Vorfälle schnell. Aus den Augen, aus dem Sinn.
Doch jetzt wird das alles wieder real. Ich sehe ich vor mir einen Mann, der diesen Horror miterlebt hat. Sein Name ist Khalid und er spricht mit mir. Und ich mit ihm.
Seit Oktober ist er nun in Deutschland und hofft hier auf eine bessere Zukunft. Das hoffe ich auch - und wenn ich an die Vorfälle von Tröglitz denke, wird mir ganz anders. Ich hoffe, dass er niemals Opfer eines rechten Übergriffes wird.
Willkommen in Deutschland, Khalid. Mögest Du sicher sein in diesem Land und niemals erneut fliehen müssen. Niemals sollst Du ein Opfer der Gewalt werden, im Gegenteil: Ich wünsche Dir, dass Du hier ein neues Zuhause finden und ein Leben leben kannst, von Frieden erfüllt ist.

Just a little stroll through the `Viertel´ (literally "quarter"), consisting of areas from the subdistricts Ostertor and Steintor, two different administrative districts of the city of Bremen ( 550.000 inhabitans / Metropolitan Region `Bremen / Oldenburg´ 2.4 million people ) in the north of Germany.
