Lots of arches! This room was quite small, so the wide angle view on my phone came in handy.

The pillars are straight in reality. I did try straightening it up a bit ... well I got the door straight!

Quite a lot of processing on this one. The original is in the first comment box

Not surprisingly, the Abbey has been used as a film location

"Fountains Abbey was used as a film location by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark for their single "Maid of Orleans (The Waltz Joan of Arc)" during the cold winter of December 1981. In 1980, Hollywood also came to the site to film the final scenes to the film Omen III: The Final Conflict.[27] Other productions filmed on location at the abbey are the films Life at the Top, The Secret Garden, The History Boys, TV series Flambards, A History of Britain, Terry Jones' Medieval Lives, Cathedral, Antiques Roadshow and the game show Treasure Hunt.[citation needed] The BBC Television series Gunpowder (2017) used Fountains Abbey as a location." If physically capable, this feat is beyond worth it. From the entrance there's a fifty meter curved walkway to a platform of steep wooden stairs, then the most narrow and longest tunnel, before reaching this wooden ramp along the Grand Gallery. After one more small entrance you're in the King's chamber and able to witness 4,500 year old ancient Egyptian history.

The tiny and fabulous Manhattan living room of Michelle Adams, a former domino magazine stylist and the mastermind behind the eco-friendly Rubie Green fabric range. Adams' decor was inspired by the JK Capri Hotel in Italy.

The IKEA 'Lack' bookcase holds books, jewelry, and Adams' domino collection. She paid $66 for the bamboo chair at the Pottery Barn/Williams-Sonoma outlet store and covered the seat cushion in Rubie Green's 'Mary' print.

"Your bedroom shouldn't have overflowing laundry baskets or DVD wires stringing all over the place," says Michelle Adams, the cofounder and editor-in-chief of Lonny magazine, a former domino magazine stylist and the mastermind behind the eco-friendly Rubie Green fabric range. "Try to keep it simple."

For her tiny and fabulous Manhattan bedroom, Adams covered the headboard with Rubie Green's 'Marilyn' print. Bedding is 'Tillinghast,' also from Rubie Green (no longer available). She found the rug and curtains at IKEA; a vintage-shop credenza stores her clothes.

Her apartment's overall decor was inspired by the J.K. Place Capri hotel in Italy.

The throw pillow is Rubie Green's 'East Village' print. The "I heart NY More Than Ever" print is by Milton Glaser (miltonglaserposters.com); Adams first saw it in Elizabeth Blitzer's home, which was featured in domino.

Architect Jeffery Povero maximized space in his 860-square-foot New York apartment with architectural custom shelving, which provides neatly efficient storage. He also used opposing paint colors to make the space seem larger: Benjamin Moore’s Iron Mountain (on walls) and white (in recesses) help the dark color dematerialize at the edges. Michelle Adams, a former domino magazine stylist and the mastermind behind the eco-friendly Rubie Green fabric range (and now co-founder and editor-in-chief of the wonderful Lonny), relaxes in her tiny and fabulous Manhattan living room. Her decor was inspired by the JK Capri Hotel in Italy.

The room is outfitted with fabrics from her line; she found the white loveseat, bamboo chair, and rug at the Pottery Barn/Williams-Sonoma outlet. The bamboo chair seat cushion (right) is upholstered in Rubie Green's 'Mary' fabric; the wing chair (left) is Rubie Green's 'East Village' print. The 'Lack' bookcase and cotton curtains are from IKEA.

In his Los Angeles bungalow, interior designer Moises Esquenazi used big color in a small space: he painted his guest room Benjamin Moore's Newburg Green, a lush deep teal that plays off the hot, tropical-hued fabrics of the throw pillows. A silver-leafed wooden deer head gives the room a "sprinkling of out-there embellishment."

She uses this diminutive space to work on Rubie Green projects, stashing storage and clutter behind a curtain and hanging fabric samples above an inspiration board. She scored the Jonathan Adler Bel Air Lamp (regularly $725) for $100 at his annual sample sale.

The kitchen of a California bungalow designed by Chad Eisner. Cabinets are painted Flint by Pratt & Lambert.

"My clients joke that they can burn water, so the kitchen is really set up primarily for entertaining, with that big table as the buffet," Eisner says. "We tried a center island, but it looked like a behemoth. Then we found that table. It had been used by an artist and came with lots of scars, which is why no one ever has to worry about staining or cutting it. The built-in millwork and the surrounding cabinets are the same dark color we used throughout the house." Fixtures are from Waterworks.

Jewel tones dominate the New York studio apartment of Ronke, a Domino magazine reader. The mirrored console and faux zebra rug are from Urban Outfitters ($300 and $79, respectively).

What she says about the space: "My studio is a winner because I have infused the apartment with a modern and glamorous edge that creates a dramatic environment, which is quite unexpected in such a small space. Many of the pieces in the room were inspired by luxurious designs elements, however on my budget I searched for items that mimicked the look for less. I love to think of my studio as a hotel room I own the keys to. Hence, every time I walk out the door I make certain it's tidy. So when I come back in it's like walking into a fresh suite."

A new sofa does so much, doesn’t it? When actress Rashida Jones made over her 400 square-foot New York studio, she replaced her IKEA slipcovered couch with a pretty English three-seater (one of my favorite styles). And symmetry is key in a small space: centering the sofa between two shelves creates a comfy nook with a sense of order.

Okay, so I'd never pick those lamps out of a line-up, but designing a room where they work so fabulously takes some panache, no? Especially if it's a studio apartment! That's what decorator Alan Tanksley did in his Manhattan digs. The ebonized oak Egyptian Revival chair is from Kraft antiques in Southampton; the Jean Royère coffee/dining table swivels and changes height. A Clarence House ikat covers the armchair in the right corner. No word on where he found the lamps...

I love the combination of neutral fabrics, round and square shapes, and tailored upholstery in this beautiful small living room.

What the Domino editors say: "Create a furniture plan that works with your space. A small rental apartment doesn't have to be glorified a dorm room: An elongated sofa, a pair of neutral slipper chairs, and elegant floor-to-ceiling drapes create an urbane feel."

The second-floor office of designer Kevin Reiner's Ohio farmhouse, painted Grange Hall by Ralph Lauren. When painting small homes and spaces, Reiner advises using restraint: "I use no less than three and no more than five paint colors in similar tones throughout the house to create a flow."

To make this room appear larger, interior designer Jeff Andrews used an olive-green shade (Drab, by Farrow & Ball) on the lower two-thirds of the walls and a lighter shade (Light Gray, by Farrow & Ball) above it— the gradation from dark to light makes the ceiling appear taller. Salvaged windows brighten the space, which Andrews uses as a dressing area and a guest room.

Other small-space tips from Andrews:

• If you paint a small room a dark color, use a high- or semi-gloss paint to bounce the light around the room, making the room feel more spacious.

• Hang a large mirror in a dead-end space (such as between two doors) to make it feel like an entrance to another room.

The remodeled living room of a 550 square-foot co-op on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. New mahogany-trimmed interior transom windows and sliding bypass doors with ribbed architectural glass panes from Bendheim allow light to move through the space while preserving privacy.

A pair of mirrored cube tables and a trim sofa from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams echo the tones in Safavieh's Thomas O'Brien area rug. Williams-Sonoma Home's mohair side chair, Cottage & Bungalow's lacquer side table, and Tracy Glover's blown-glass lamp add punch to walls painted Light Pewter, a pale gray from Benjamin Moore’s Aura line.

Cozy and calm, but also cheerful -- just what you need in a small bedroom. Walls are painted Farrow & Ball's Lime White. The striped curtains, from Roger Oates design, add a modern punch to the earthy elements in the room.

So maybe this particular wallpaper wouldn't be my first choice, but I love how its colorway coordinates with the painted bookshelves. It's a great concept -- a fun, unexpected way to bring punch to a small space.
