I spotted this item while strolling along Prospect Park West, Brooklyn. I discovered a small space filled with more nice finds when I went in to make the purchase. I soon struck up a nice conversation with the owner, Bonni, a former schoolteacher, and I remarked how reasonable her prices were. I spoke about my photography, mentioning the current Flickr Theme: HEARTBEAT-wondering if I could find something that could fit that theme. She responded, that small stores/businesses like hers could be considered the "heartbeat of the community" I couldn't agree more and plan to visit and support, again.

Thank you for viewing this photo.

This mural, on the northern wall of Ohio Silver Company, is in honor of the late villager Marco Comegys, who died unexpectedly in a fatal motorcycle accident in early 2023.

In 1825, Yellow Springs was founded by William Mills and approximately 100 families. The village was named after nearby natural springs with waters high in iron content.

The completion of the Little Miami Railroad in 1846 brought increased commerce, inhabitants, and tourism to this area of Greene County. Many regular visitors of the 19th century came for the springs, as these were believed to have medicinal benefits. The village of Yellow Springs was incorporated in 1856.

Antioch College was founded here in 1850, and began operating in 1853 with the distinguished scholar Horace Mann as its first president.

From the less faded containers at the back, I guess his small business is growing. With the ridiculous amount of over-packaging of everything here, I am not surprised.

Example: two nights ago we received YET another bunch of Moon Cakes, the traditional gift here this time of the year. It contains 12 little cakes about 2x5cm in diameter. Each cake is firstly wrapped in a soft plastic skin (akin to clingwrap), then packed on a thick, hard plastic container-bottom which then is individually wrapped in a semi-hard plastic bubble filled with a gas and then the 12 are wrapped together in a very sturdy plastic. The sturdy plastic container is then placed inside a big, square plastic box which is then sold to you and on your way out, placed inside a plastic bag for you to take home ....

Get your fluff and fold right here on La Brea Ave.

I've recently gotten more into the show, it's a simple family comedy, and me and my brother like it alot. Sculpting his head was pretty hard, but I think he, along with the rest if his body of course, looks amazing. I look forward to making the rest of the family and other characters from the show too.

The food is very good at the Junkyard. The owners are Patriots. They are worried, like other restaurants are, that the outdoor Covid-19 mandate will kill their business in the cold and possible rainy months ahead. A quiet moment in Osaka, where the past lingers on every street corner. The tobacco shop stands like a relic of another time, framed by the hum of bicycles and the weathered façades of lived-in buildings. Life slows here, where the charm is unpolished but undeniably human. A crossroads of stories, caught in a fleeting pause.

This image captures a vibrant, narrow street in Japan, likely in an urban neighborhood, brimming with local charm and activity. On both sides of the street, small businesses line the way, including restaurants, shops, and cafes. Outdoor seating with green umbrellas and displayed menus adds to the inviting atmosphere, while boards showcasing food options hint at a rich culinary experience. A colorful pole on the right side, adorned with artistic patterns, adds a splash of creativity to the scene.

Overhead, a maze of power lines crisscrosses the sky, a quintessential feature of Japanese urban landscapes. The street is lively but not overly crowded, with pedestrians strolling down the center, enjoying the area’s relaxed vibe. Bicycles are neatly parked, and a cluster of bright red rental bikes sits on the right, adding pops of color. The Japanese text on signs and banners blends seamlessly with the architecture, providing a distinctly local character.

The soft evening light enhances the mood, casting a warm glow that makes the street feel both cozy and dynamic. The brick and stucco buildings are modest in height, allowing for a clear view of the sky, which is streaked with hints of blue and pastel clouds. Subtle details, like the variety of shopfronts and handwritten signage, create a sense of discovery for visitors exploring this bustling yet serene urban pocket.
