Floridians has some pretty spectacular insects. You have to go looking for most of them, but it’s hard to miss the eastern Lubber grasshopper.
This giant, slow moving grasshopper’s bright orange, yellow and red colors are a warning that it contains toxins and will make any potential predator sick. If for any reason, you fail to heed the color warning and pick it up, the grasshopper makes a loud hissing noise and secretes an irritating foul-smelling foamy spray.
These 4-inch grasshoppers are too large and toxic for most natural predators, so they don’t need to move fast. Lubbers cannot fly far, and travel in short clumsy hops, or walk and crawl slowly through the vegetation. They feed on broadleaf plants and can become a nuisance when swarms invade residential areas and feast on garden plants. Lubbers seem to be unaffected by most insecticides, and according to experts at the University of Florida, if they become a garden pest, the best way to get rid of them is to stamp on them, or ‘hand pick’ them and drown them in a bucket of soapy water.
I found this one along Joe Overstreet Road in Osceola County, Florida.
A tortoise’s shell bears several scars from wounds healed. The scars prove the shell effective in protecting the slow-moving reptile from its predators.
Terrestrial turtles are extremely long-lived; there are authenticated cases of individuals living over 150 years!

Parson's Chameleon (Female) (Calumma parsonii) Chameleon skin has quite a few layers of scales. Underneath its scales are layers of different pigments. The next layers are made up of crystals that create a crisscross pattern, or lattice.
Every year on August 14th, World Lizard Day celebrates a specific type of reptile. The day also encourages us to show appreciation for lizards and to learn more about them.
A lizard is considered a reptile, which is characterized by its scaly skin. Other features all reptiles have include long bodies and tails, four legs, and moveable eyelids. Most lizards lay eggs. However, there are some lizards that give birth to live babies.
Here are some more interesting facts about lizards:
• There are about 6,000 species of lizards.
• Lizards are found on every continent except Antarctica.
• Most kinds of lizards absorb water from their food, which means they don’t need to be near water.
• Lizards are cold-blooded, which means they need sunshine in order to survive.
• A lizard diet consists of a variety of foods including plants, insects, and eggs of small animals.
• Lizards range in size from two inches in length to over eleven feet.
• A lizard has a tail that regenerates, which means it grows another one if it breaks off.
• Some lizards can change colors.
Zoos across the world celebrate this day with special lizard exhibits. Science and nature centers also hold events such as live lizard presentations and educational seminars. - Internet
A reflective moment in the life of a bridge, but happily in this particular case, it's slow meandering waters that pass below.

Tiliqua rugosa, most commonly known as the shingleback skink or bobtail lizard, is a short-tailed, slow-moving species of blue-tongued skink (genus Tiliqua) endemic to Australia. It is commonly known as the shingleback or sleepy lizard. Three of its four recognised subspecies are found in Western Australia, where the bobtail name is most frequently used. The fourth subspecies, T. rugosa asper, is the only one native to eastern Australia, where it goes by the common name of the eastern shingleback.
Apart from bobtail and shingleback, a variety of other common names are used in different states, including two-headed skink, stumpy lizard, stumpy-tailed skink, bogeye or boggi, pinecone lizard. The Noongar Aboriginal people refer to rugosa as yoorn in their language.
T. rugosa is an omnivore that eat snails, insects, calf muscles, carrion, vegetation and flowers. Since they are slow-moving, they tend to eat other slow moving species. This is perhaps why T. rugosa has a stronger preference for plants than other blue-tongue skink species. They can easily crush through the shells of snails with their strong jaws. 59550
The Canyon Creek Falls in the early autumn season does not flow near as much as during the spring. As a result, we were able to make a few compositions on its bedrock, slippery as it was. It was sort of cool being in a place normally reserved for moving water.
Have a good Sunday all!

I have photographed this scene on two different occasions, one year apart to the day. In 2010 www.flickr.com/photos/mccoy442/4733356000/in/photostream, there was a stick protruding at the base of this mini cascade. This year, it was gone. I really enjoy this forest. It is lush with moss and large trees. Nurse logs may be found supporting new life and if a person enjoyed macro work, mushrooms are all about as well. I suppose I will visit this place for many years to come and eventually, I will work my way far up this slope to witness additional cool places, that are seldom ever viewed. People flock to Sol Duc Falls a half mile away.....I come here.
View of scarp and graben along Scenic Drive, La Honda, San Mateo County, California. This slow-moving landslide began moving a couple of weeks ago (January 11, 2017). I took this picture while standing on the side of the road—at someone's driveway.
Day 230/366 of Project 365 (Monday, 2020 August 17 - 99th consecutive daily photo): The meandering Galien River wends its way through Warren Woods State Park on its slow journey to Lake Michigan. The river is unusually high for mid-August. Cerulean Warbler and Yellow-throated Warbler habitat.

I found this one at the "Retention Pond" at Circle B Bar Reserve.
Polk County, Florida.
I did not "stomp" on him or drown him in a bucket of soapy water. If I tried to stomp him I might hurt my foot, and I am allergic
to soapy water. (smile)
This moisture-filtered, pastel-colored image is of yet another storm system refueling for more monsoonal rainfall. It was along the Rocky Mountain Front Range in Colorado around 6:30 PM.
During mid-July to early September there is a shift in the wind patterns aloft. They carry moist oceanic air from the Gulfs of California and Mexico.
They bring simultaneous high pressure clockwise and low pressure counterclockwise wind flows, which can churn up some very dramatic and sometimes dangerous weather conditions. I've watched incoming rain come mostly from the West, but at this time of year I've seen incoming storms coming directly from the East!
The NAM occurs in the mostly southwestern states of the U.S. One other monsoon system in the world that is stronger than the NAM is the monsoon system that flows from the Tibetan Plateau across India, triggering potentially devastating cyclones in that area.
For a photographer, this dynamic weather can be challenging, exhilarating, and threatening to life and limb [!] to try to capture. In a region where raindrops can be "precious few" for much of the year, this monsoon season remains an important annual source of needed precipitation. The colors can vary from vibrant - with many bright colors of the spectrum, including rainbows - to muted, as seen in this photo.

The koalas at the San Diego Zoo (they're marsupials not bears) sleep ~22 hours a day. We watched them for a while and were so excited to see one of them actually move! He opened one eye, snuggled closer to his branch, sighed and went back to sleep.
The San Diego Zoo has the largest koala population and the most successful koala breeding program outside of Australia and was the first zoo in the United States to welcome a koala joey. They actually send their koalas (first class transportation only) to breed at other zoos - what a life !
Read more about them on the San Diego Zoo website:
The beloved Lucio Fulci glopfest "The Beyond" (1981) made it to Korean rental shelves via D&S Production, a tapped-into-the-veins-of-the-grindhouse world distributor that also put out dozens of other Euro gems. Even with heavy-handed Korean censorship, this release is still pretty "wet." The front cover highlights "screams of guests in a zombie-filled ('received') hotel" and the back cover announces "You've received an invite from the demon of the swamp." Uber-rare tape now.
