Kolab Canyon - Zion National Park, Utah (shot 2 of 2)
Zion National Park has a diverse and rich environment and suits many tastes for the outback. To the south east of the park is the Zion Canyon which goes from very approachable parts by car to bus to foot, to the very "make your own adventure" in the north west of the park, called Kolob, where you earn every view, and "no comfort" roughing it is the norm. We drove up and around to try and get a scenic view of what was suggested by a local guide. Boy did it not disappoint!
About ...
The last leg of our trip through northern Arizona and southern Utah ran us through Zion's western valley / canyon of Kolab. On the way back, I stopped and plopped down my tripod (defunct/broken and STILL in Arizona) in the stream and took a long exposure - expecting nothing to come out, and simply wanted to get use out of some equipment I dragged along for this very occasion. Looks like it did pay off after all.
Shown at this speed, it’s more of an aerial ballet than a fight but either way, the female Northern Lapwing seems unimpressed!
This was captured on 29th April near St. Helens at 160 frames/second.
