Nieuw-Sloten is a diverse neighborhood in Amsterdam, known for its unique character and location in the southwestern part of the city. It was initially planned as a site for the 1992 Summer Olympics village, which, ultimately, did not take place in Amsterdam. Architecturally, the neighborhood boasts distinct styles, with various sections showcasing modern and traditional Dutch designs, making each part of Nieuw-Sloten different from the other, offering a rich blend of architectural aesthetics.

"Citadel": apartment building, 2022, architects: MVSA.
The location of the new apartment building, called Citadel, is in the ‘Blue Band village’ neighbourhood, directly opposite the famous complex of ‘sawtooth houses’ by prominent post-war architect Frans van Gool. Built in 1959, the blocks of single-family houses have an experimental floor plan that means their façades form a zigzag line, creating a sawtooth pattern. It was the blue mouldings on their roofs that gave the neighbourhood its Blue Band nickname, after the packaging of the Dutch margarine brand.
With the whole Blue Band village a protected monument since 2008, our design for the new build set out to respect its context, while adding a contemporary twist to the neighbourhood. Rather than attempting a high-rise building, which would have sat awkwardly here, we opted for a mid-rise development that would not dwarf the existing housing. We also responded to the sawtooth theme with a striking façade of zigzagging white balconies for our apartment building. These form a dynamic rippling wave as they progress over its face. MVSA Architects heeft dit gebouw ontworpen en met name de buitenkant van het complex is heel bijzonder. Ieder appartement wordt voorzien van een wit prefab (vooraf in de fabriek gemaakt) betonnen balkon met tussen de appartementen een wit prefab betonnen privacyscherm. Alle balkons hebben een driehoekige vorm in het bovenaanzicht en lopen aan de onderzijde schuin. Aan de voorzijde is het balkon slechts 15cm dik (even dik als de privacyschermen) en bij de gevel 40cm dik. Door het verspringend plaatsen van de balkons en privacyschermen ontstaat er een soort golfbeweging in de gevel.

The Sloterplas is located in the middle of the Western Garden Cities in Amsterdam Nieuw-West and was dug between 1948 and 1956 and has a maximum depth of 37 meters.
As part of the General Expansion Plan (A.U.P.) of 1935, the lower Sloterdijkermeerpolder, in the former municipality of Sloten, was excavated into a recreational lake as the center of the Western Garden Cities. Cornelis van Eesteren included this part in his General Expansion Plan following the example of the German city of Hanover, where at that time (1935) the excavation of the Maschsee was being prepared.
A large park and recreation area was created in the middle of the new districts: the Sloterpark. The fertile top layer of peat and clay was used to raise the Sloterpark around the lake. In 1948, the lake was also designated for sand extraction for the future garden cities of Slotermeer, Geuzenveld, Slotervaart and Osdorp, giving it a much greater depth than according to the original plan from 1935.
In 1957 the open-air Sloterparkbad was opened on the northwest side of the lake, in 1973 an indoor swimming pool (50 meter pool) with an outdoor pool was built here, which was replaced in 2001 by a new building for (competitive) swimming. North of the swimming pool on the northwest bank is a recreational beach, which was christened 'Sloterstrand' in May 2017.

Lijn 2 lijkt zó uit de gevel te komen rijden...De halsbandparkieten zijn inmiddels ook autochtone Amsterdammers geworden.

Nee, niet het eindpunt aan het meer met die naam, maar Slotervaart Zuid, het vroegere eindpunt van lijn 2
(tegenwoordig van buslijn 18), waar een verstopte afvoerput zorgde voor een waterballet.
Museumtram 602 spiegelde er zich in tijdens de Amsterdamse Dag van de EMA.

12G-tram 840 is here on line 2 (can normally only found on line 16/24), over it's grass track at the Heemstedestraat, on it's way to Central Station.
Trapkar 818 op het ooit in kader van "Lijnen voor Morgen" aangelegde spoor dwars door het Haarlemmermeercircuit . Dat scheelde toch weer bijna 45 seconden met het er omheen rijden... In dat uit 1969 stammende plan zou lijn 16 geheel op vrije baan gaan rijden, en zou lijn 2 worden opgeheven...
Uiteindelijk is lijn 2 verlengd naar Slotervaart en Nieuw sloten, en viel voor lijn 16 om andere metro redenen alsnog in 2018 het doek...

Een spitsuurdienst op lijn 2 aan het eindpunt Louwesweg op 19 oktober 1978. Dat het een extra dienst is zal de klanten waarschijnlijk een zorg zijn, maar die aanduiding scheelt wel het aan de eindpunten verdraaien van de - mogelijk kapotte - bestemmingsfilm.

De architecten Berghoef, Zwiers en Klarenbeek ontwierpen bijna alle Airey-complexen in Nederland. Het ensemble Sloterhof uit 1958 in Slotervaart kan als meesterstuk in dit systeem beschouwd worden. Het staat sinds 2008 op de gemeentelijke monumentenlijst en is sinds voorjaar 2016 rijksmonument.
A sturdy bear with a pillow under its arm. That's Staalman. As a gatekeeper, he guards the park and watches over the neighborhood. Florentijn Hofman designed the gigantic bear in consultation with young people from the area. Staalman exudes a lot of self-confidence through his robust appearance but also has a 'soft side' symbolized by the pillow. Like a tough exterior with a gentle core.

Eén van Amsterdams nieuwste trams leert de weg naar Nieuw Sloten kennen met behulp van een instructeur en een tweetal bestuurders.
De 3065 is nog in "kale" uitvoering als hij op 17 maart 2022 de Laan van Vlaanderen op rijdt met in de achtergrond het vroegere Slotervaart ziekenhuis.
Het pand is momenteel in verbouwing tot een opleidingsinstituut van het ROC voor medische beroepen.
