When a hyaena gets hold of an impala carcass they make short work of it in no time at all. See video on www.wildcast.net

The village of Upper Slaughter in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds is one mile away from Lower Slaughter and resides on a gentle grassy slope above the stream that connects the two villages.

Once the village was dominated by a Norman castle but all that can be seen of it today are the remains of the motte and bailey.

The building that dominates Upper Slaughter is the beautiful gabled Manor House which is one of the finest buildings in the area. The oldest part of the house dates from the 15th century but the front is Elizabethan. The Manor is now a hotel.

Lower Slaughter in the cotswolds, Horrible name but a lovely place!

Upper Slaughter is the smaller of the two villages.

The River Eye runs through the centre of the village and is passable by a small number of quaint stone bridges and also a ford.

All the rivers in the area were running high, not surprising given the amount of rain we have had recently.

Beautiful morning at Lower Slaughter. Wild ducks are resting beside the River Windrush.

During the celebration of Eid al-Adha, Muslims commemorate and remember Abraham's trials, by themselves slaughtering an animal such as a sheep, camel, or goat. This action is very often misunderstood by those outside the faith.

Got to get food somehow. Pretty inspiring to see people respecting the food that they eat. Food doesn't come in cellophane and cardboard.

I don't know why it was named that, and I'm not sure I want to know, but it was a lovely way to start our trip. :) The water in the bay was very muddy, probably because of the big storm.
