A series of pigs being slaughtered. A vein is cut just above the leg and the pig is left to bleed to death (seen on the top left pig). Then the stomach is cut open and the organs are pulled out in one fell swoop (bottom right).

i'm amazed... outstanded infact..as you approach alnmouth just up the aln is this old building... it used to be a slaughter house and last time i was up there it was still the derelict slaughter house. this building has undergone some serious restoration and it now looks lovely.. drawback is of course that the track that goes up to it is called "slaughter house lane"... i think the owners will probably want to change that
Wikipedia: The second Confederate wave was by the Polk's corps, consisting the divisions of Maj. Gens. Jones M. Withers and Benjamin F. Cheatham. What saved the Union from total destruction that morning was the foresight of Maj. Gen. Philip Sheridan (McCook's wing), who anticipated an early attack and had the troops of his division up and ready in the center of the right half of the line by 4 a.m. Withers hit Sheridan's right flank first (and Davis's left) but was repulsed in three separate charges. Then Cheatham, with his reserve division, hit Sheridan's front as Cleburne struck his flank. Cheatham's assault was sluggish and piecemeal; observers claimed he had been drinking heavily and was unable to command his units effectively. While Sheridan's men slowed the enemy advance, they did it at heavy cost to themselves; all three of Sheridan's brigade commanders were killed that day, and more than one third of his men were casualties in four hours of fighting in a cedar forest surrounded on three sides that became known as "The Slaughter Pen". By 10 a.m., many of the Confederate objectives had been achieved. They had captured 28 guns and over 3,000 Union soldiers.
Of course Lance wanted to be picked up right when I started talking to Mark Slaughter! We had a great time that day. The show was at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD. We had a picnic, met the bands, took the kids home and came back for the concert.
A series of pigs being slaughtered at a Torajan funeral. After the organs are removed from the stomach, the pig is roasted using flame throwers. The man on the far left pig was drinking blood straight out of the pig's stomach.

These photos were taken in a slaughterhouse in rural Tennessee over a two year period. They show the hard work of a family owned slaughterhouse competing with industrial based slaughterhouses. I used many different film and camera setups. These are from the many rolls of black and white film shot with either a Nikon FM2 or a Yashica T4. I shot in either Tri-X 400 or T-Max 400. The shots were taken on breaks or at the homes of the workers. All Rights Reserved, Copyright Joshua Harriman 2008.

Part of the Upper Missouri Set, you can read about our trip on my blog.
A family I was staying with were slaughtering a few sheep to sell to Ulaanbaatar, and I was kind of surprised how unemotional the experience was for me. They were – obviously – very unsentimental about the whole thing, and even the sheep seemed to accept their fate with a shrug, so I saw no reason to be upset.
The way sheep are slaughtered is you make an incision their chest cavity, which you reach your hand into, squeezing the aorta shut. It is a very efficient way of slaughter, and no part of the animal is lost – everything is eaten.
Life and attitudes in Mongolia are strongly influenced by Buddhism, with its deep respect for all live beings and nature. This, coupled with a harsh life, in a harsh environment where one cannot afford to waste, is one reason why all parts of an animal are put to use after slaughter.

We always pass this sign on the way to and from the beaches in Delaware, and I think it is such a funny sign. It sounds like the name of a B horror movie.

I hate having roaches in the house. Our landlord claims he has someone come out and spray every two months, but I don't see how that's possible, judging by the thousands that breed outside our front door.
Last night I was in the bathroom when I heard several screams and heavy thuds from the kitchen. When I went to check out what had happened, I found a visibly disturbed Cheyenne holding a flip flop. It had slowly slid off the counter and down the cabinet by a string of entrails, apparently. She said it was the "worst thing I've ever seen".
Lower Slaughter and Upper Slaughter are two tiny villages in the Cotswolds. They are a world unto themselves. Quaint, storybook-like and with few (if any) things catering for tourists. The kind of place where you imagine everyone knows everyone else, by name.
"Slaughter" means muddy place.

Hevea brasiliensis (Willd. ex A. Juss.) Müll. Arg. Euphorbiaceae. [Malay - Pokok getah], Hevea rubber, Para rubber. Hevea rubber is a native from Brazil and an important economic crop widely grown in South East Asia for the production of Hevea rubber. Timber also useful in making furniture. "Slaughter tapping" (intensive tapping) resorted to in old trees before uprooting and replanted with new seedlings. The process involves increasing tapping frequency, extension of tapping cuts and making multiple cuts and indiscriminate use of yield stimulants such as ethephon (2-chloroethylphosphonic acid.). In this parcel 22% ethephon a.i. being used and the trees are scheduled to be uprooted in less than three months. The latex is channeled to the collecting cups. Rain and windy conditions will cause haphazard latex flow and spillage. Tapping is done at night for better yield due to higher tree turgor pressure.
