A vacant bench is a poplar subject for photographers. For me its a symbol of not taking the time to sit and enjoy the greatest show on earth. Too busy with ordinary activities. So let this be an invitation to my viewers to take a few moments today to sit down take a deep breath and notice the little things around you. The ant carnying a load three times his size, a squirrel storing a nut for the coming winter, a song bird sitting in a tree branch broadcasting smooth tunes. This bench is calling you from Otter Slough Boardwalk in Stoddard County Missouri

Often trees stand long after their vital energy has left. They remain useful. Insects harbor inside and become food for birds. Fungi find food here too, and critters live in it's cavities.

The forest is a master of recycling. Incorporating everything that it produce back into raw material for the next generation. An almost perfect world.

So why did we leave this paradise? It wasn't a conscious decision. We evolved out of the primordial world, and aspired to

having toys,

having comfort,

having food,

entertainment,

transportation,

All this in an attempt to fix nature,

which wasn't broken.

At home with a bad back, I thought I'd continue my sketch art experiments with this forgotten image of Jerusalem's Calatrava Bridge.

"The highest art will be the one that presents in its contents of consciousness the thousand-fold problems of the time; to which one may note that this art allows itself to be tossed by the explosions of the last week, that it pieces together its parts again and again while being shoved by the day before.

— Tristan Tzara, Franz Jung, George Grosz, Marcel Janco, Richard Hulsenbeck, Gerhard Preiss, Raoul Hausmann, "Dada Manifesto"

I found the above quote in Joseph Nechvatal's "Immersion into Noise" recommended to me by Bill Smith. Nechvatal's essay is about "noisy art" which he proposes is an antidote for the abuses of power in our times. This is a treatise for you, Richard S. Warner, if you haven't already read it.

I took this photo as part of an assignment for my online drawing class at Yavapai College this semester. The professor asked us to take a photo of a shopping environment that was rich in line variety. You can see the black and w version nearby in my photostream on Flickr. I decided to give it my digital watercolor treatment because the subject was so colorful. I particularly like the curve of the American flag outside the store window.
