The Prachov Rocks (Czech: Prachovské skály) are a rock formation in the Czech Republic approximately 5 kilometres west of Jičín. Since 1933, they have been a protected natural reserve. The region where the formations are located is called Bohemian Paradise, Český ráj in Czech.
The formations are made of sandstone, originally in the form of a plateau. Since its formation over 60 million years ago, the rock has been eroded by wind and rain into the unique forms found at the site. Several of the individual rock towers have inspired names due to their appearance, such as the Leaning Tower, Devil's Kitchen, the Monk, the Elephant, and the Eagle.
Some scenes for major productions were filmed in the area, including Carnival Row, Britannia, Little Mermaid, Van Helsing, The Mists of Avalon, and the original Hellboy. (wikipedia)

The Adršpach-Teplice Rocks (Czech: Adršpašsko-teplické skály, German: Adersbach-Weckelsdorfer Felsenstadt) are an unusual set of sandstone formations covering 17 km2 in northeastern Bohemia, Czech Republic. They are named after two nearby municipalities: Adršpach, and Teplice nad Metují.
The site was apparently a regional destination during the 19th and early 20th century, as attested by the varied language of stone inscriptions on the site, and surviving postcards.
The rocks have been protected as a national nature reserve since 1933, and since 1991 the whole adjacent region of Broumovsko has enjoyed the status of protected landscape area. Tourists may visit the rocks via a number of marked trails. The area is a popular destination for rock climbers.
The area is also one of the largest permanent breeding sites of peregrine falcon in Europe, as they are protected here under federal law. Some areas have been designated off limits to climbers and hikers to make sure the birds aren't disturbed.

Černolické skály, region: Central Bohemia, Brdy mountains - Quarzite (Ordovician)
Ein beeindruckendes geologisches Naturdenkmal und zugleich eine besondere Landmarke im Bereich der Kämme des Brdy-Waldes sind die "Černolické skály". Es handelt sich um einen mauerartigen Felsenzug von bis zu 20 m Höhe, der aus Quarzitgestein aus der Zeit des Ordoviziums (vor etwa 450 Millionen Jahren!) gebildet wird. Schon 1904/05 wurde hier mit der Kletterei begonnen, wodurch das Areal zu den ältesten böhmischen Kletterlokalitäten zählt.

Die Iser (Jizera) durchbricht zwischen Eisenbrod (Železný Brod) und Turnau (Turnov) die Lausitzer Verwerfung, die sich als in der Landschaft markant hervortretende Störungszone von hier bis in die Elbtalzone um Dresden verfolgen lässt. Durch tektonische Kräfte wurden hier die kreidezeitlichen Sandsteine Nordböhmens von dem granitisch geprägten Komplex des Lausitzer, Iser- und Riesengebirges überschoben. Im unmittelbaren Kontaktbereich kam es dabei zu einer Steilstellung der Sedimentgesteine, die zudem aufgrund des wirkenden Drucks metamorph verändert wurden. Der Durchbruch der Iser legte diese geologische Störungszone in einzigartiger Weise frei, wodurch die Sandsteine als imposante Mauern beidseits des Flusses sichtbar wurden.
Rugged dominant ridge formed of tilted up to recumbent folds of the Cretaceous Cenomanian sandstones near to the Lužice fracture zone. This unique geomorphological feature is also called The Bohemian Dolomites. Sandstones are jointed, crushed and often silicified. Suché skály is a rock complex built up by vertical sandstone beds. It is a frequently visited site favoured by tourists and mountaineers.
Geologically it is a solid cenoman siliceous sandstones and agglomerates that were tectonically broken and raised over the younger chalk layers. By the influence of moving Earth plates and their vertical rotation to the ground, Suche skaly received its current shape and look. Distinctly cracked, tectonically cooled and silicic rocks are dramatically formed by processes of frost weathering that created sharp peak rocks, towers, ruptures and blocks. In some places they appear like tectonic breccia, that means rocks broken into small sharp fragments by pressure. It is a unique geomorphologic location.

Here is another panorama of three of the KAT-7 radio-telescopes... captured shortly after sunset... at the SKA site near the Karoo town of Carnarvon.
These telescopes are very photogenic... and they look amazing when you stand right under them and look up through an ultra-wide-angle lens. The problem with this approach is that the more you tilt the lens upwards... the more the telescopes lean inwards... and the closer to the edge of the photo they are... the more they lean! This always looks very odd and unnatural to me... my brain simply can't accept it... so I always try to avoid leaning verticals in my own photos.
For me it was all about finding the balance between getting up as close as I could... while still minimizing distortion. Some of the distortion could be corrected with Photoshop's Lens Correction filter... but the more correction you apply... the more the pixels in the image get stretched and squashed... which is also something that I try to avoid at all cost.
I found the best compromise to be stepping back from the telescopes... and shooting panoramas with a slightly longer focal length... thereby giving the appearance of closeness... with considerably less distortion than when shooting with a wider lens.
