The Cathedral. Quoting J:
"Cathedral. Early 20th century and designed in mock-gothic fashion to look suitably imposing. Fun fact: the Finnish word for Cathedral, tuomiokirkko, literally means "doom church". It is an old translation error; the German Dom and Swedish domkyrka -- dom from Latin domus, house of God, or seat of the bishop -- took the form of tuomio (divine or legal judgement)."
Next time we'll see the inside which is very grim and Gothic, with frescoes painted by Hugo Simberg, I'm told.
The Lutheran Tampere Cathedral was designed by Finnish architect Lars Sonck and built between 1902-1907. The frescoes were painted by the symbolist Hugo Simberg.
