Due to the increasing terrorist attacks worldwide governments take measures to maintain the safety of their country. Visa's are reduced to shorter stay. We all suffer from the change of time !
But visa's to India are more limited from Europe then from USA and Canada ?
And now,
Government decided recently that a simcard for a cellphone should only be used by Indians with a house register, blocking all simcard from non-Indians who have no registered local address (only staying in a hotel, their hotel bill is accepted as registered stay), otherwise they loose their cell phone credits and as such endangering tourists for emergency-calls.
Even though tourists with a record of years coming to India enjoying the hospitality are now as such also considered as possible terrorists or maybe only seen as an economic revenue, restricting their facilities, a decay of hospitality by Indian government. Maybe this attitude could imply that other countries would reconsider the same policy towards Indian tourists abroad ?

Motelona Brick
This is my new brick phone which arrived a couple days a go. It accepts GSM simcards and stands tall to a height of 28cm.
I'm upgrading from a blackberry curve and i can't really do a comparison as they are totally different phones :)
My new phone provides me the basics:

Truthfully, it also includes phone book, internet browsing/email (if your plan allows for it), sms, calculator, calendar, mp3 music and java games. I was curious on the internals and decided to open up the phone (it's the engineer in me), the internals is actually a motorolla v180 and the antenna is fake.
I wandered into an Apple Store an hour before this photo was taken, whilst waiting at the Genius bar, I overheard a small boy asking his mum what phone that was - he was pointing in the direction of my brick phone. The mother answered it looked like a very old phone. It made me smile :) Before leaving the apple store (in the store for an ipad question), i tried to convince the person helping me if they would consider trade-ins of my brick phone for an iphone 4.. You can probably guess their reaction and answer :)
I've been using this phone for a few days now, bringing it into meetings, leaving it on the desk to show people my new phone and best of all, taking it out to lunch.. I get the best looks of amazement to check if that's a real phone :) Its certainly a conversation starter ..
The Muizenberg Police Station has this amazing view. We went to hand-in a cell phone found in the suff. Hopefully the simcard can be retrieved.

Wollen die uns vergiften? Ich esse keinen Zucker, das ist doch ungesund! Was ist das für eine Kombination? Und von Salat weit und breit nix zu sehen!
Ich fragte: Wo ist der Salat?
Und sie zeigte mir auf die Pasta.
Warum hängen die dann so ein Schild auf? Pasta und Salat - das ist doch gelogen! Da weiß man dann nicht, ob die wegen Schweinefleisch nicht auch lügen.
Nein, wir müssen selber kochen. Aber ich hab hier noch keine Küche gesehen. Also, Mr. Sepp wird uns morgen eine ganze Reihe Fragen beantworten müssen."

This setup shows how La Fonera 2.0g, loaded with the RC5 firmware or newer, functions as a HSPA (3G) router.
Using a T-Mobile prepaid internet sim with included USB-dongle, the Fonera is provided with a 3.6Mbit down and 384kbit upstream internet connection, which in turn is transformed into WiFi: a 'public' signal and a 'private' signal. More on these two signals can be found on Fon.com or FonNederland.nl for Dutch readers. The cost of this connection is a maximum of 4,50 Euro a day, regardless of data transferred.
As you can see I added a non-standard antenna to the Fonera. This antenna has a gain of 6dBi, cable- and connector-loss already deducted. It rests in the included magnetic base, allowing for easy mounting on metallic surfaces.
All in all this is the perfect solution to provide temporary access at events, or at your local Starbucks :P
as the 3G HSPA uplink allows you to use this setup anywhere within the reach of your mobile provider (in this case, T-mobile), in other words all over the country.
* Be aware that using your data sim in another country will result in high costs, so I wouldn't recommend use a setup like this on your vacation abroad, unless you buy a local prepaid simcard with similar specifications to the provided internet service..
** Of course, you needn't use a prepaid solution but can also do this with your postpaid (monthly fee) subscription. However, as these monthly subscriptions come with a data limit and/or speed cap at a certain amount of data transferred a month, this could mean usage cost higher than you predicted or slower speeds than you are used to, so be aware of the policy your provider has set for your subscribed service!
