The Silent Valley Reservoir is located in the Mourne Mountains near Kilkeel. It supplies most of the water for County Down and large parts of County Armagh Greater Belfast. It was built between 1923 and 1933 by a workforce of over 1,000 men, nine of whom died during construction. It is around 3 kilometres long.

Another image from our wet snow event - there is nothing quite like walking in a forest immediately following a deep, sticky snowfall. Somehow the snow creates a hushed atmosphere unlike any other.
One of the few artworks that really made an impact on me at Kistefos museum.

Marsh Owl is a critically endangered species is Morocco. This piece tries to address one of the main problems causing its decline, and your help is much appreciated.
Marsh Owl (Asio capensis) is a typical owl restricted to Africa and its biggest island. Three subspecies are recognised: 1) the nominate subspecies which has the largest range – from East to Southern Africa, plus isolated populations in West Africa; 2) A. c. hova in Madagascar, and 3) A. c. tingitanus in northwest Morocco.
Globally, the species is not threatened and is currently categorised as ‘Least Concern’ in the IUCN Red List. However, this is not the case for the isolated and declining Moroccan population. There is no Red List for Moroccan avifauna, but the species should easily qualify as ‘Critically Endangered’ for a number of criteria.

Sometimes the sunlight will sneak in through a canyon opening and illuminate a few large rocks here and there. Creating specs of glowing moss covered rocks, leaving others hidden in the silent shadows.

We get so distracted and busy that we often neglect listening to one another, much less listen to God. We need to silently listen.
The barn owl is renowned for it's silent wing beat, as it quarters the countryside in search of unsuspecting voles.
Owls are known as silent predators of the night, capable of flying just inches from their prey without being detected. The quietness of their flight is owed to their specialized feathers.
When air rushes over an ordinary wing, it typically creates a “gushing” noise as large areas of air turbulence build up. But the owl has developed feathers which stabilise the air flow, resulting in a large reduction in aerodynamic noise. This is then further absorbed, by their downy feathers, resulting in the ultimate stealth attack.
As I watched his display my excited breathing was the only noise to be heard.
