the beluga drifts in slow circles. nowhere to go. nowhere to hide. just small, perfect loops. over and over.
the people stare through glass. through screens. capturing life they barely see.

she sat on a bench, scrolling, exhaling, lost in a thought she didn’t share. the smoke curled between us, vanishing before it could settle. a glance—direct, unreadable, gone in a second. plaça del rosari, a fleeting moment given, not taken.

We still have so much snow; but yesterday was a glorious day and the weekend is supposed to match. Let's find colour in places we overlook.
Two juvenile bald eagle siblings are perched on a tree branch, surrounded by lush green leaves. Their sharp beaks and claws are visible, suggesting they are in a natural habitat during daylight. They are having a deep and silent conversation with each other!!!
Here are the two photos currently being exhibited... The theme is
Silent Conversations and this is what the call for work said:
We all participate in frequent conversations as part of our daily
lives – with family, friends and colleagues and even complete
strangers. Through this interaction we exchange ideas and information,
express our feelings, learn and grow as people. However, almost 50% of
all communication is unspoken – relying on human actions, reactions
and expressions. As a result of differences in culture, education and
experience these can frequently be misinterpreted.
Artists constantly seek to provoke external responses through
articulation of an internal dialogue, creating a non-verbal form of
communication that might have universal resonance.
As an artist you should articulate your innermost thoughts through a
creative voice that can speak as loud as words. Through your art you
may use your voice to express a very personal reflection or
observation, or you may wish to make a social comment, a response to
worldwide events or even a proposed solution to specific issues. We
are looking to you to provoke a silent conversation through an artwork
that may be created in any medium that best describes this theme.
[This is the first of a set of four photos, continuing my theme on Trees this month. I'm reposting for contacts who may not have seen it, and because I'm still too caught up with work to process a new image. New satellite connection is also making Flickr almost impossible to navigate, or is it Flickr that is difficult? Anyone notice problems using tabs in Flickr? Let me know! Thanks!]
It was a chilly winter afternoon, night was fast approaching, and few people were out in the park. By the Jardin des Tuileries just south of the Louvre one can walk along this terrace that runs just opposite the Musee d'Orsay, by the Seine. When I saw these two chairs, so empty, almost forlorn, it was as if there was still a conversation in the air. One could almost see two friends sitting here, enjoying the afternoon. Certainly the trees had plenty to say. Their wintry silhouettes seemed to be having quite a lively time!! In all this silence, and seeming emptiness, something was speaking to me and I had to take out my camera to record it.
The photo was taken with a camera I am no longer using, the Fuji Finepix S7000, several years ago. It begged to be uploaded today, so here you are! Now let's go have an espresso together. It's getting cold standing here in the park. :o)
April is one of the Local Real Change vendors and if you are lucky she will have Killer along to say hi as well. As you can see they both love purple.
Sadly, Killer passed away in 2021.
in an unadorned room, three chairs and a television set the stage for an absent audience. two vibrant red chairs, their color speaking louder than the silence around them, flank a solitary black chair, creating a visual dialogue of contrast and companionship. the stark white wall serves as a blank canvas, challenging the viewer to imagine the stories that these chairs might tell. the scene is a study in stillness, a static frame of modern life where human presence is implied yet conspicuously absent. this photograph captures the essence of potential interaction, the spaces between us, and the quiet anticipation of company in the simplicity of an everyday setting.
Barefoot steps, a white dress, and sunlight painting stories on the wall. Sometimes the quietest moments hold the loudest beauty.

in the heart of saint tropez, at the picturesque place de l'ormeau, an endearing scene unfolds. a bouquet of sunflowers stands tall in a clear vase, their vibrant yellow petals capturing the warmth of the sun. Beside them, a charming sailor figurine gazes up, as if engaged in a silent conversation with the blooms. The rustic texture of the figurine contrasts with the fresh beauty of the flowers, creating a delightful juxtaposition. This quiet moment of still life encapsulates the timeless charm and artistic spirit of this beloved French Riviera town.

In a shop window on Broadway, I found these three mannequins in conversation. Clearly the window artist thought that it would look as if they were sharing secrets.
There is something timeless about the mannequins as well as the clothes and jewelry they're wearing. (Not in especially good taste, by the way. And 'timeless' meaning "of an indeterminate era.") But Upper Broadway isn't Madison Ave., so they will be forgiven.

Hidden from all
I will speak to you without words
No one but you will hear my story..
Even if I tell it in the middle of the crowd.

I look forward to your birth,
when I can kiss your skin,
but for now I will just smile,
As I feel you play within
Here is my first attempt at a '2 Camera' portrait. Two cameras operated simultaneously capturing opposite viewpoints. My idea was to photograph both the subject and the taker.
Artist Statement
My recent work has been a meditation on the stories held within still and silent things. In "Reliquary of Gestures," I move from the manufactured object to the human form itself—or what remains of it. This is not a study of anatomy, but an archaeology of communication. These are not just hands; they are the fossilized remains of countless prayers, arguments, greetings, and farewells. Piled together like unearthed artifacts, their original context is lost, and all that remains is the silent, beautiful shape of the gesture itself. The rough, stone-like texture gives them the weight of relics, remnants of a forgotten language spoken only through the articulation of fingers. This piece is a reliquary for the thousands of unspoken conversations we have with our hands, a testament to the power of a language that leaves no echo, only form.
