Sculpt update on "Sleeping Ripley" and Jonesy the Cat - ALIEN 79 - Nostromo 1:18 scale.

I haven't had as much time as I would have liked to work on this piece last week but from what progress I've made, I'm hoping that I can complete both sleeping versions of Ripley - one for the Nostromo Sleep Chamber and the other for the Narcissus by the end of the weekend.

For this update, I've attached the upper arms/shoulders to the torso, as well as sculpted the boxers each crew member wears while in their pod. Next step will be the lower arms, sculpting the hands, then fitting the figure properly into the pod. No progress yet on the Narcissus version but that will change after tonight's session.

May sound a little silly seeing that many consider these current projects as "customs" ...but I've treated these static sculpt projects as if they were classical studies. I'm usually sculpting monsters or alien bodies so sculpting the human form is a real treat. Especially the female form which I consider a challenge.

...and Jonesy the cat. I completed the sculpt of him in a sitting pose a couple years back. Next will be a standing pose featuring a ball jointed neck and a sleeping version of Jonesy all curled up that will fit in both sleep chambers along with Ripley! I plan to do one additional variant of Jonesy hissing!!

Quick update I know - more to come, promise. Had some fun with the camera this time around on some of the shot. Just found them interesting. #alien #ripley #jonesthecat #jonesy #nostromo #alien79 #sigourneyweaver #sleepchamber #humanform #sculpting #art

Sigourney Weaver and Simon Pegg after the PAUL panel

Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez and Stephen Lang of the movie "Avatar" held a screening for Sailor and DOD Civilians and their families in the courtyard of Naval Support Activity Bahrain on Jan. 28, 2010. They held a meet and greet session prior to the screening where they signed photos and took pictures.

Sigourney Weaver earned an Oscar nomination for her work as Ellen Ripley in this terrific 1986 sci-fi sequel, and it's easy to see why. Not only does she kick major alien butt, but she also has some great human moments. The final standoff with the Alien Queen is classic.

That cat is a survivor.

Sculpt progress on "Sleeping Ripley" - Nostromo Sleep Chamber - ALIEN 1:18 scale.

Update since last post.... glueing, filling, sculpting and sanding to bring cast pieces together to create a static sleeping version of Ripley from the opening sequence of the film.

Plenty more sculpting to do - arms, hands, shorts, details...plus I need to fit her into the sleep pod.

Updates to the Narcissus version of "Sleeping Ripley" and Jonesy are coming soon

San Diego Comic Con 2009. From the Avatar Panel. They showed 25 mins (5 scenes from the upcoming James Cameron movie and it looks AMAZING!)

Just Sigourney, Kate and me... oh and a few dozen other people behind the camera :-) It was amazing, being so close to the set.

I saw a great funny movie yesterday!

A Shakespeare Sunday 35th anniversary salute to James Cameron's ALIENS, released June 18, 1986. One of the best sequels in all of film, ALIENS performs on numerous levels—action movie, monster movie, war movie, and the heavy dueling mothers facet. Cameron goes a step further than he did in The Terminator in establishing the female as the action hero: Terminator protagonist Sarah Connor defends her life; but ALIENS Ellen Ripley goes full gangsta with a machinegun, flamethrower, and a belt of grenades to save her surrogate child by blasting the acid-crap out of big mama bug and her nasty offspring! A smart script performed by a game cast makes ALIENS watchable over and over—Ripley kicking xenomorph ass never gets old! Bravo, all!

Sigourney Weaver's character, Dr. Grace Augustine, wishes to preserve life on their new planet in the upcoming 3D film, Avatar. Amazing footage!

It's Ripley (AKA Sigourney Weaver) as Mona Lisa with a facehugger egg, waiting patiently. Hilarious in the best, demented way possible.

Sigourney Weaver arrives for the Avatar panel

It was always on the cards given the early concept art that set in motion 20th Century Fox’s desire to unleash more Xenomorphs in another ALIEN sequel but now Michael Biehn’s return as Corporal Hicks looks now looks nailed.

As director Neill Blomkamp continues his promotion for this...
