Commissioned mosaic sign done as a birthday gift for the client's husband. She requested the words that mean "home sweet home and love" in India and wanted paisleys and their names discreetly put into the piece.
yes, I admit that some wit (not me!) added nipples with a black marker to the otherwise innocent sign.
This is a nice old-fashioned restaurant sign which is seen by motorists passing by on Interstate 40 on the east side of downtown Knoxville
This finger post in Kirby Stephen is unusual as it shows furlongs, as well as the usual miles.
In all my years on this planet, I've only ever known furlongs used on race courses, although I read they are used on canals. In addition, I don't recall seeing any other direction sign on a road showing furlongs, which equate to a distance of 200 metres or 220 yards.
This sign is by the junction it purports to serve, but has been moved slightly following the modification of the junction some years back.

I'm not sure what this sign is trying to say; no wheelchairs ? No sitting ?
Spotted at Disney in Florida.
This cool old sign is a landmark along I-80 between Sacramento and San Francisco. It's got to be nearly 100 feet tall! The old restaurant is not there, but it has been dismantled and preserved. Maybe someday it can be set up again. I believe the sign has historic protection, and it is probably the most iconic thing in the small dairy town of Dixon, California.
The National Capital Commission has decided that this sign was necessary alongside a road in our area. The landscaping is not finished.
We don't mind the intent and basic concept, but consider it too large, and upon closer inspection it further fails to make an entirely good impression.
We like the fact that the wood was cut down and rough-trimmed on site (3 tree stumps and a ton of shavings are just behind Dad), so let's not get into the cutting of trees to promote a wilderness site. Their look and placement work, but the footings are so basic that they seem almost an afterthought, or an issue ignored at best.
The nuts locking the rods holding the sheet-metal are exposed, with the sheet-metal itself rusting and showing unsightly welds across both lengths. Maybe that's the way they want it to look, who knows, but there seems too much wrong with this sign to ignore.

The first night I went out drinking in Chiba, in 1998, I ended up at a little ramen shop just along this street. A lot has changed but for the most part it's still the same place.

High above the streets of Crewe is this signing advertising a long defunct restaurant. In more recent times the building housed the Steam nightclub but is now derelict. I would love to know more about Kettell's but have so far found no information.
