The Secretariat building is one of the most significant conlonial-time buildings in India. Located at the heart of New Delhi, the building was started in 1912 and completed in 1927. It still houses a number of government offices.

The chicks will leave the nest after approximately a month and can fly well after two months. The young stay close to home and are cared for by the female for some time after leaving the nest.

Winter has shown up in our area now with temperatures below zero, frozen lakes and beautiful sunshine. Compared tor the last months with rain, clouds and shades of grey this is a significant improvement. Dear winter, we love you. But please do not stay too long and give way to spring. In significant decline, I was happy to have run into these birds along a beach during my family vacation earlier this year. Hard to believe that it was only a few months ago and at the same time feels like a lifetime.

The Tarkine is a vast and significant wilderness in north-west Tasmania, an area of stunning natural beauty and the largest Gondwanan cool-temperate rainforest in Australia. This is our get away destination for today.

I took a cruise on the Pieman River where we saw nature up close and personal, Eagles followed our boat and the photo opportunities were boundless. We had lunch on the river bank and were turned loose to explore the rainforest where I took this, and many other photos.

As ever in Australia, The Tarkine is under threat from mining interests, and the timber industry. Between them they want to build roads, cut down trees and dig a nice mine in this pristine wilderness. Conservationist on the other hand, want The Tarkine declared a national park: fat chance they've got. There's gold, tin and trees in The Tarkine. Get to The Tarkine before it's all gone.

Both buildings lie within the Lincoln Courthouse Square Historic District that was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

The corner building at 429 Pulaski St. was constructed around 1885 and is a contributing building in the district. The two-part commercial building next to it at 425-427 Pulaski St. dates to 1890. With its cast iron front, second story windows with decorative hood molds and a heavy, metal cornice, the structure is identified as a significant building in the district.

Holguín, Cuba

• A vintage MZ from late 1960's. Holguín is a Cuban municipality located in the northeast of the island. Holguín is the capital of the province of the same name. The area suffered significant damage when Hurricane Ike hit on September 7, 2008.

The Cathedral of Our Lady (Dutch: Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal) is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Antwerp, Belgium. Today's see of the Diocese of Antwerp started in 1352 and, although the first stage of construction was ended in 1521, has never been 'completed'. In Gothic style, its architects were Jan and Pieter Appelmans. It contains a number of significant works by the Baroque painter Peter Paul Rubens, as well as paintings by artists such as Otto van Veen, Jacob de Backer and Marten de Vos.

The belfry of the cathedral is included in the Belfries of Belgium and France entry in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The first Christian missionaries arrived in the 7th century. The first parish church dedicated to Saint Peter and Saint Paul was constructed in the current Sint Michielsstraat. After the Viking raids in 836, the church was damaged and restored, and subsequently dedicated to Saint Michael. In the 10th century, a group of 12 secular canons were connected to this church. They would dedicate all of their time to the Liturgy of the Hours, and mainly opposed the beliefs of the established Roman Catholic Church.

Upon hearing of their dissent behavior, the bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cambrai (to which Antwerp belonged at the time) then sent Norbert of Xanten to discipline them. In 1124, Norbert of Xanten convinces 4 of the secular canons to start a norbertine abbey and thus the parish church becomes a monastery church, known as St. Michael's Abbey. The 8 other secular canons prefer to keep their freedom and move to a different location, a chapel dedicated to Our Lady, the Virgin Mary.

This chapel becomes Antwerp's new parish church, and is located between the Saint Michael residential area, and an older settlement around the area of Het Steen.

Becoming more popular, the chapel is demolished and replaced by a much bigger romanesque church. The three-aisled nave corresponded in width to the cathedral's current central aisle, the inner and partly the middle aisles. The cloverleaf-shaped eastern section with a full aisle had a width of no less than 42 m. In 1294, the church gets a novum opus extension, indicating the first signs of gothic architecture.

Ah, a pair of duck-billed pliers with which to grip, bend, and twist small things. Small enough for my smallish hand.

Buren is a town and municipality in the Betuwe region of the Netherlands. The name originated from the word the Dutch word “buren”, which means neighbour.

The earliest known settlement of the region occurred as early as 772.The castle was built by the Lords of Buren and was first mentioned in 1298. The town was granted city rights in 1395 by Sir Alard IV of Buren which led to the construction of a defensive wall and a moat, significant portions of which still stand. In 1492, the region was promoted to a county but had limited economic influence due to its geographic isolation. By 1574, the previously Catholic parish church of Saint-Lambert became Calvinist Reformed Protestant.

The Castle eventually came into the possession of the House of Orange, the royal family of the Netherlands. The Dutch royal family has been known to use the name van Buren as an alias to give themselves some degree of anonymity. William III of England obtained the title Buren. The Dutch royal family, still use this as a title. The Castle was gradually demolished between 1804 and 1883. The eighth president of the United States, Martin Van Buren, traced his ancestry to inhabitants of the city, who had taken the surname Van Buren after relocating to the Dutch colony of New Netherland in what is now the state of New York.

A Grey-headed Flying Fox (Pteropus poliocephalus) photographed yesterday at Yarra Bend Park in Kew. It was a drizzly, dull day, not ideal for photography, but I really enjoyed seeing these fascinating creatures, definitely want to return. Thanks Ali for taking me to see them.

The Grey-headed Flying Fox’s conservation status is listed as vulnerable. The population at Yarra Bend varies from about 6,000 to up to 30,000 in summer, this group were relocated to Yarra Bend Park in 2003 from the Melbourne Botanic Gardens where they were doing significant damage and threatening many parts of the gardens.

The Columbia- Wrightsville Bridge is nothing less than one of the most historically significant concrete bridges in the United States. The bridge was the longest multi-span concrete arch bridge in the world when built, and even today it at the very least remains among the longest examples. In addition to its jaw-dropping 28 arch spans each spanning an impressive 185 feet, an additional 20 approach spans (mostly curved t-beams) complete the bridge which is over a mile long in total length. Also, with a 48 foot wide out-to-out deck width containing a 38 foot roadway, this is also a fairly wide bridge for its age as well. The length of the bridge coupled with its width results in a bridge with a footprint of about eight acres!

St. Kevin’s Chapel is a significant monument from the 7th century, representing the architectural and religious developments of early medieval Ireland. Glendalough itself was founded by St. Kevin in the 6th century and became one of the most important ecclesiastical centers in Ireland. While the exact date of the chapel’s construction is uncertain, it is clear that it played a vital role in the monastic community.

The chapel is commonly referred to as "St. Kevin’s Kitchen," a name that emerged from a mistaken belief that its bell-tower was a chimney used for cooking. This misinterpretation, while charming, does not reflect the chapel's true purpose as a place of worship and sanctuary for the monastic community.

A significant flood occurred in the Vere River valley in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, on the night of 13 to 14 June 2015. It resulted in at least 20 human deaths and struck the Tbilisi Zoo, leaving half of its animal inhabitants either dead or on the loose.

The Tbilisi Zoo lost more than 300 animals, nearly half of its inhabitants: the majority were killed by flooding. Several surviving inhabitants of the zoo — a hippopotamus, big cats, wolves, bears, and hyenas — escaped from destroyed pens and cages to the streets of Tbilisi and a police unit was employed to round them up. Some were killed, others were recaptured and brought back to the zoo. The media ran footage showing the hippopotamus making its way to a flooded Heroes' Square, one of Tbilisi's major roadway hubs, where it was subdued with a tranquilizer dart. On 17 June a white tiger remaining on the loose attacked and mortally wounded a man in a storehouse near the zoo. The animal was eventually shot dead by the police. An African penguin was found at the Red Bridge border crossing with Azerbaijan, having swum some 60 km south from Tbilisi.

The docklands has always been a major component of the Dublin’s history and development. Beginning with the Vikings and Norman settlers the docklands became quite a significant commerce and trading hub. Recently companies such as Google and Facebook have created tens of thousands of jobs and transformed the docklands into a bustling area. Only a short distance from the City Centre it has become home to numerous entertainment venues including music, theatre, opera, exhibitions and galleries. If you are feeling daring the docklands offers a variety of outdoor activities including kayaking and wake boarding. Dublin’s Docklands is sure to have something for everyone, why not make a day of it?

Gangly heron with significant variation in plumage. Distinct dark morph is slate-gray with a white throat, while the palest morph is white with a yellow bill and lores. Pale gray intermediate morphs can also be found. Little Egret can look similar, but it has a darker bill than the white morph of the Western Reef-Heron. The significant other half decided to make bread for lunch yesterday. As his bread was still proving, not quite ready for the oven, I decided to make some cakes.

The mixture was hastily put together as my immobility does not allow me to stand for long in the kitchen:

6ozs SR flour + 1 tsp baking powder, 4 ozs sugar, 4 ozs marge, 2 eggs - combined in an electric mixer. 4 ozs dried fruit mixed in, mixture put into 12 small paper cases and cooked at 320 for 15 to 20 mins.

Nearly forgot - sprinkled a few flaked almonds on top befpre cooking.

They smelt so good when cooked and as the bread was still cooking, we had a back to front lunch and ate cake first and soup and bread second.

On the corner is the former First National Bank Building, which more recently has been used as a senior center. This neoclassical style building was constructed about 1915 and is one of two architecturally significant buildings in this block. The third building from the corner, known as the Arcade Building, is the other structure in this block that makes a significant contribution to the historic district. The Mission style Arcade Building was constructed in 1929 and is the design of architect John M. Deal. The building features terra cotta and tile trim, with shops open off the interior arcade as well as off the front part of the structure.

The remaining structures on this block are late 19th century Italianate and early 20th century commercial buildings. All but one at the opposite end of the block are contributing properties in the historic district.

Adult gannets are large and bright white with black wingtips. They are distinctively shaped with a long neck and long pointed beak, long pointed tail, and long pointed wings. At sea they flap and then glide low over the water, often travelling in small groups. They feed by flying high and circling before plunging into the sea. They breed in significant numbers at only a few localities and so is an Amber List species.

This tributary crossing serves as a significant landmark leading to the side trails of Rich Falls, Big Falls and Dome Falls. On this day, my objective was to reach Rich Falls. According to the research info I had, the trail should have been 10 to 15 minutes past this crossing on the left. Well...I walked 10 to 15 minutes and didn't see a trail. I kept going. As a matter of fact, I kept going to a place on the trail where I could hear Big Falls raging and "raising a ruckus" like you wouldn't believe in the gorge below. I turned around to backtrack hoping to see the trail and instead ended back up at the tributary again with no results. Knowing full well how dangerous the descents down into the gorge are after this point and to avoid attempting a bushwhack (let wisdom prevail), so I headed back across the tributary. Not long afterwards I encountered Charlie, an experienced hiker on the trail who was on his way to Big Falls. I explained about not being able to locate either trailhead, and he obliged to lead me right to where the trail to Rich Falls began. We ultimately reached the trailhead, about 30 minutes after the tributary crossing which was rarely used and was hidden underneath the fallen leaves. Charlie spoke about some of the steep sections of the trail, and I thanked him for the info and assured him I would be fine after I had started. After sharing some friendly parting words, he headed off towards Big Falls and I headed down the trail to my destination.

The hills are a bit dry. No significant rain in a year. It will snow soon, so the remaining flora will at least have moisture.

With significant pressures, back-ups are now necessary and we will proceed into the Ark in threes or fours folks! Japanese Gardens, Toowoomba, Queensland.

Olhão is a small town in the Algarve less than 10km from Faro, the main town in the region. The town has a significant tourist interest today but previously fishing was its main activity. Many fishermen provide fish to the famous covered market in Olhão today.

What makes a visit and a walk in Olhão interesting is its architecture. The old fishermen's district is made up of small white houses with cubic shapes. As most houses do not have gardens, terraces are arranged on the roofs and the alleys flowered by the inhabitants. Google

PS With its cubist lines and white-washed walls, the houses of Olhão are a sign of its people’s commercial and emigrational links with Morocco.

We finally got significant snow in our area of the Midwest this week just in time for the holiday season.Unfortunately we also got a whole lot of cold,the worse part(-13) coming just in time for New Year's Eve and day.Be careful what you wish for is the phrase for the day I guess...

Numbers are significant in the Buddhist tradition. These three little statues were found in a garden at Lindisfarne, Tasmania. In Buddhist philosophy (remember I am not talking about religion here, so this applies equally as well to non-Buddhists) all of life is interconnected. There is a “Buddha nature” (Buddha Dhatu) that pervades all existence. The English Christian theologian and poet John Donne (1572-1631) understood this as well when he wrote that, “No man is an island”. The way of interdependence is the way of compassion, of feeling for the needs of others, the way a true adult will feel, regardless of religion. So in a sense the desire to be a Bodhisattva is a way of growing up.

As Kosho Uchiyama defines it, “The life that flows through each of us and through everything around us is actually all connected. To say that, of course, means that who I really am cannot be separated from all the things that surround me. Or, to put it another way, all sentient beings have their existence and live within my life. So needless to say, that includes even the fate of all mankind—that, too, lies within me. Therefore, just how mankind might truly live out its life becomes what I aim at as my direction. This aiming or living while moving in a certain direction is what is meant by vow."

Rainfall has also been significantly lower than the average for the time of year and exceptionally low tides - not helped by this week's 'Super Blue Blood Moon' - are thought to have contributed to the lack of water in the area. It's not the first time the canals have run dry, though.

Unusually low tides in 2015 and 2016 meant Venice experienced some of its lowest water levels since records began, exposing large patches of mud and silt around the city.

"In winter low tides are common," a city council tidal officer explained to a local newspaper in December 2015. "But these levels are way below normal: it's a small record."

According to local experts, heavy investment in flood-barrier projects has resulted in a lack of money to support the removal of mud and sediment from the canals, a report by The Independent noted.

Along with the lack of waterways maintenance, residents in the city have also expressed their concerns over the high numbers of tourists who flock to Venice daily. The Milky Way Galaxy is most significant to humans because it is home sweet home. But when it comes down to it, our galaxy is a typical barred spiral, much like billion of other galaxy in the universe.

The Milky Way ia a barred spiral galaxy, about 100,000 light-years across. If you could look down on it from the top, you would see a central bulge surrounded by four large spiral arms that warp around it. Spiral galaxies make up about two-third of the galaxies in the universe.

The Milky Way does not sit still, but is constantly rotating. As such, the arms are moving through space. The sun and the solar system travel with them. The solar system travels at an average speed of 515.000 mph (828,000 km/h). Even at this rapid speed, the solar system would take about 230 million years to travel all the way around the Milky Way.

Whiskers play a significant role in a cat's life. They are tactile sensations, decoration, and intimidation of the enemy!

Denali has two significant summits: the South Summit is the higher one at 20,310 feet (6,190 m), while the North Summit has an elevation of 19,470 ft (5,934 m). They are both in view here.

The South Summit is the climbing target. The North Summit doesn't draw as many climbers.
