Otso, thou my well beloved,

Honey-eater of the woodlands,

Let not anger swell thy bosom;

I have not the force to slay thee,

Willingly thy life thou givest

As a sacrifice to Northland.”

- The Kalevala - Rune XLVI “Otso the Honey-Eater”

Forged by David DelaGardelle, Otso’s Bite is a mythically-influenced, yet historically-rooted, early 8th century Merovingian/Vendel-period spatha. Inspired by the character of Otso the forest-spirit, as described in the epic Finnish poem, “the Kalevala”. The key historical foundation for this sword began with its pommel design, which was directly based off of an artifact found in Vesilahti Kirmukarmu, Finland, along with other Christian and Pagan artifacts. The strange and mysterious pommel depicts a snarling bear with wizard-like faces on all four joints. The pommel was beautifully carved in wax by bladesmith, Luke Shearer, and then skillfully cast in bronze by Emiliano Carrillo and Matthew Berry. The upper and lower guards were made from buffalo horn and antiqued bronze, and the grip was shaped out of a solid piece of rock maple with Vendel-era carvings. The pattern-welded blade was forged out of 800+ layers of 1075 and 15N20 steel. Made from Baltic poplar and lined with wool fleece, the scabbard reflects several Vendel-era findings. The entire scabbard is tightly wrapped with thin cowhide leather, and tooled with period-accurate ornamentation. The hand carved bronze fittings and the scabbard bridge depicts Otso and the face of Väinämöinen. The red garnet on the bear's back represents blood from a wound, either a wound of its own or from a greater King who, like Otso, freely gives his life for others.

Firstly: please note this is not my phone number.

Simple (previously Bank Simple) has a great signup form for new accounts. For several input fields they use a combination of well-written microcopy, smart validation and input masks. In this example the placeholder text shows a required format. When the field has focus the green "This must be your iPhone…" text appears. The requirement for an iOS device is a little surprising, but after seeing Bill DeRouchey talk last week about their development process, it's to be expected at this point in time (they're strictly in a Friends And Family access only phase). One of the company's principles is "leave old tech behind", and during his talk Bill mentioned they hadn't tested anything on IE as they're concentrating on better browsers. Taking this principle further, I can see why at the moment they'd want to design for the pretty stable platform that is iOS rather than deal with the increasingly splintered mess of Android support. And then there's Blackberrys and lower…

In testing this field, I entered my phone number in several different ways and it accepted each one and then used an input mask to replace my entry so it matched the the format in their original placeholder text.

My only slight gripe with this is the microcopy: I'm not 100% sure what "verify your account" means. Does it means they'll send me a text message when my account set up is complete? Is my phone number a core requirement for an account? Something else?

At this time I feel it only proper to share

the dark-side of being a K9manservant.

What we have here is Ms Yo-Yo who

is a jailbait girlfriend to Mr Rocky.

Note, Mr Rocky is behind her.

No# 1 wife was informed by me that

now was the appropriate time to

signup in a 12 step therapy plan

designed specifically for the

many K9mansevants that

need serious mental help.

This therapy is also inclusive

for K9womanservants too.

So,

Last night I attended my very

first 12 step therapy meeting

I felt spiritually enlightened as

I stood up and clearly introduced

myself and talked openly an freely.

Now admittedly at first I did stutter

slightly but soon regained my

confidence after doing this

old time honored trick ---

I mentally envisioned all the participants naked !

Boy, and let me tell you that snapped me

right back into the therphy mode for sure.

As the night went on several topics were

covered many of which sounded familiar.

Overall I felt this was the right step to take.

I sat down with no# 1 wife and shared some of it.

Told her how well I did standing there speaking.

How I used the old time honored trick of seeing

the listeners naked and how it made me laugh.

At this point no# 1 wife spoke up and asked

me a couple of questions that puzzled her.

She asked if many other servants showed up ?

And I had to stand my ground and tell her that

I can not divulged any personal info on others.

She went on to quiz me about what time I had left

the house in order 2 attend this 12 step meeting ?

Right off the top of my pointy little head I couldn't recall.

Then she went on to interrogate me with direct questions

such as who was with you in the bathroom last night around

the time your so call 12 step therapy meeting was going on ?

Once again, I'm not a snitch, talk to my lawyer for answers ;-0

No# 1 starts giving me the Big MoJo Stare Down !

My intestines turned to liquid, blood pressure

is going straight up as sweat breaks out

all over my trembling old broken body.

Things are starting to Not Feel Right ;-0-

In a soft whisper that I so love to hear

no# 1 leans in real close and says to me.

"Honey, I love your huge big heart but in

reality you are a young monkey boy with

absolutely no brain at all for thinking ;-0

She went on to inform me that I was

the only K9manservant that showed

up for my very first and only meeting.

And that she is absolutely convinced

that I truly need special K9 therapy !

The End.

Thank You.
