We the undersigned, strongly condemn the repeated lumpen activities of a gang of students and non-students belonging to the JNU Patriotic Forum. These lumpen elements are led by Siddarth Rai and Maninder Singh Chauhan, and include students -Devi Dayal Gautam, Prashant Upadhyay, Ashish Kumar, Vibhuti Bhushan, Saurabh accompanied by non-students Bunty Lal, Ashish, Sajjan Kumar, Kajal, Rahul Raj and Sanjeev Kumar. .
Last night, these elements issued threats to a senior student at the Ganga Dhaba. Students led by the JNUSU responded by organising a peaceful protest procession. After the procession, some of these goons passed lewd and offensive anti-women comments against the JNUSU Joint Secretary. These incidents are the latest in a series of episodes involving the same group of goons but not one single person has yet been punished for these incidents. We firmly believe that the JNU Administrations laxity towards these violent activities, has made these goons more bold. .
These lumpens are already vitiating the atmosphere of JNU badly. Women students of Chandrabhaga Hostel have to change their route to avoid this group. They whistle, stare and pass obscene remarks on girls. .
Last year, at a dance party of the Chinese Centre, these students passed comments on girls following which there was a tiff. Later they went into the rooms of students who had intervened and beat them up. The same story got repeated on another occasion i.e the dance pary of Mahi-Mandavi hostel. Last month, another grave incident of violence took place when the same group attacked some students inside Lohit Hostel. Victims filed a complaint with the Proctors office; however when these students along with JNUSU representatives sought action, the proctor point-blank refused to take any action. Lohit Hostel residents in their GBM passed a reslotution declaring Siddartha Rai and Bunty Lal out-of-bounds of Lohit. .
They were also involved in the incident of violence at the Volleyball Court near Sabarmati Hostel last semester. Speeding through the campus on their bikes in a drunken state has become a regular habit with them. A few days back when one student objected to this, they went to his room and threatened him with dire consequences. Two days back, they again attacked a student inside Lohit Hostel. There are several other reported as well as non-reported incidents in which this particular group is directly involved. .
We demand swift and severe disciplinary action against these lumpen elements. Their presence on campus poses threat to the common students, since they routinely issue verbal threats as well as indulge in physical assaults. Such lumpenism was foreign to JNUs ethos, where common students were used to moving freely without fear of any anti-social activity. It is imperative to restore JNUs peace and normalcy by getting rid of the disruptive elements. .
We demand expulsion for the ring-leaders Siddarth Rai and Maninder and strict disciplinary action for the other students. In addition, immediate measures be taken to make sure the lumpen non-students are declared out of bounds. We also demand that the out-of-bounds order be enforced strictly by putting up orders in the hostels, academic complex and all public places, and swift penal action be taken if this order .
