The Temple of Concordia, dating from around 430 BC, is one of the best preserved Doric temples in the world. It owes its fine level of preservation thanks to its conversion to a Christian church in the 6th century AD. Work was carried out in the 18th century to restore the temple to its original layout. The building owes its traditional name to a Latin inscription dating to the mid-first century BC which mentions the “Concordia degli Agrigentini”, which was found nearby. This was later proved incorrect and no one has been able to find irrefutable evidence linking the temple to any specific god or gods.
