Crewe's former British Rail office block, 'Rail House' on the corner of Nantwich Road and Gresty Road is a Cheshire landmark which can be seen from miles around on a clear day. I don't suppose that a great deal of it is still in use in the manner for which it was intended, but at least it currently survives.
Whilst driving the Heritage Centre - Station shuttle today, and finding access to the concourse bus stops blocked by parked cars, I had to find somewhere else to be, pending my return journey. Here ex PMT PSU4 (short) Marshall bodied Leyland Leopard TVT127G sits momentarily outside the above building for a photograph in the strong low winter sunshine.

Temple Bar here we come.....................
In a well conceived, well planned and well executed multi agency plan formulated over many months, coaches were to be parked in Donnybrook on the N11 road after the Navy vs Notre Dame match in the 'Aviva' stadium. This location is less than 1 mile from the Aviva stadium. Given the danger of having large numbers of pedestrians coming in contact with road traffic, especially given the very high likelyhood that the vast majority would be overseas visitors to Dublin, it was deemed appropiate to transfer coach passengers to their vehicles using high capacity and very frequent Dublin Bus double decks on the short journey to the N11.
It was a good plan.
Only thing was that the vast majority of spectators emerging from the 'Aviva' wanted to go to the city centre, and most notably the Temple Bar area! Quickly realising that regular services no4 and no7 could simply not cope, Dublin Bus chief inspector Paul Murray very quickly reacted and realigned the service. The majority of services departing Northumberland Road headed for the city.
In this view AV137 carring perhaps an appropiate add for Guinness 'paint the town black' , fully laden, swings around onto Pembroke Road, following VT10 and pursued by AV126 all full to the hilt, all bound for Temple Bar.
'Paint the town black indeed. !

River Plunge – Album Description – Mainz, Germany – 2017DEC31:
New Year's Eve I got a river view room, a real rarity for me! In the pre-dawn half-light I glanced out my room in our crew hotel, glimpsing steely glistening water glimmering five floors below.
In addition to ship traffic, I got to witness a traditional jump off the bow of the Branddirektor F. A. Schneider for the fire department's New Year's Eve swim: clad in wet suits, 180 police officers, rescue divers, and firemen plunged off the fire department boat into numbing cold waters, strong currents carrying them 2 kilometers downstream starting at 10:13 a.m.
This time of year a phenomenon in unvarying annual sequence for mid-northern latitudes in the Northern Hemisphere gives us the earliest sunset in early December, shortest day at the solstice about December 21, & latest sunrise in early January.
The December solstice brings the shortest day to the Northern Hemisphere and the longest day to the Southern Hemisphere; however, latest sunrise doesn’t coincide with the day of least daylight, also the latest sunset not the day of greatest daylight.
Why not? Earth’s rotational axis is tilted 23.5⁰ out of vertical to the plane of our not perfectly circular orbit around the sun.
Due to this eccentric orbit ('squashed', with the sun slightly off center), Earth travels fastest in January, slowest in July. Clock time gets a bit out of sync with sun time by about ½ minute per day for several weeks around the December solstice.
Because solar noon (midday) comes later by the clock now than on the solstice, so do the times of sunrise and sunset. For today in Mainz it was a 8:25 a.m. sunrise, a 4:34 p.m. sunset.

New Year's Eve – Album Description – Mainz, Germany – 2017DEC31:
My New Year's Eve layover in Mainz!
We took off early (scheduled 1645/actual 1638) and arrived in Frankfurt, Germany, early (scheduled 0115/actual 0044), for our 2720 layover, 20 minutes longer than our scheduled 27 hours.
At the crew hotel I got a river view room! Unusual! I ran a hot bath and hopped in the tub; suddenly hotel guests opened my door and came into my room! In the unexpected excitement of getting a rare river view, I forgot to lock and latch my door!
After my nap I eagerly headed up the hill past the "Sun" where Joe and I ate Christmas Eve dinner with 7 other crewmembers a week ago to the Old Minster Church for their New Year's Eve 5:00 p.m. service; I learned of it from their pastor, my friend Hendrik Maskus. Heartwarming! Flute teacher Katrin Schild played beautiful duets, accompanied by Makoto Mikawa. She said to bring my flute for us to play duets this coming year!
Meandering back to the crew hotel I paused to admire some lovely Christmas lights and decorations along the way.
My room faced the hotel elevators, just a mere few feet away: after loud fireworks, waves of late-night revelers spilled out of those elevators sharing volumes of celebratory experiences.
Several hours later our full flight took off, and we crossed the southern tip of Greenland, arriving 33 minutes early, at 1352; at home I greeted Joe, whom I saw last year (48 hours prior)!
When Joe got up the next morning at 7 here it was 7⁰F (-14⁰C).
Hope you enjoy this 9.7% of 1121 photos I took here this day!
BR Standard 9F 92220 ''Evening Star'' - the last BR steam locomotive built - arriving at Old Oak Common with the 'shuttle service' from Paddington, on the open day in September 1981, celebrating the depot's 75th anniversary.
The loco was withdrawn after less than 5 years in service, in March 1965, and was - after some accident damage repairs - preserved. The loco operated on many specials on BR tracks in the 80s, but all 9Fs were subsequently banned from UK mainline tracks, as the flangeless centre driver caused 'problems' with newer pointwork..
Today, ''Evening Star'' is a static exhibit, at the National Railway Museum, York.
Old Oak Common depot is still in operation, and sometimes hosts visiting preserved locomotives..

Whilst on a family jolly to the Mid Hants. Railway a few years ago, we were lucky enough to be there at the time of a model railway exhibition in Alton, transport to which was being provided by this preserved Leyland Tiger Cub. WCG 104 was and still is, in the care of the 'Friends of King Alfred', a group who's excellent works keep alive the spirit of the former Winchester Independent. The Tiger Cub was Leyland's effort at producing a lightweight single decker when fuel economy was becoming an issue in the mid 50s. They collaborated with Weymann as here who fitted this equally light Hermes bodywork. Locally to us, PMT ran similar buses on AEC, Leyland and Albion chassis, but I don't recall any of them having the severe weight saving economies found in the above such as single skin body panelling.

Within less than 90 minutes, the 'Aviva' had emptied. Everybody who wanted to be somewhere was there. Having made multiple trips to the Temple Bar area Donnybrook 'VT6' is signed off and the Dublin Bus operation stood down. The frenzied, goodnatured and flexible operation (flexible in that most journeys were operated in line with travellers wishes and operated to the City centre/ Temple Bar instead of the N11) was over.
Wearing a recently applied 'mega side' add for Kellogs Squares VT7,followed by VT6 return home to Donnybrook.

We stayed for our 3rd time during January 2016 at the memorable and ideally located Hilton Dublin Airport Hotel, Deluxe Room. Good airport shuttle connections, efficient and friendly service, good food/drinks offerings and of course large rooms make this hotel before/after a flight from/to DUB highly recommended. Of note, while the shuttle service from the airport is complimentary, the same service from the hotel to the airport is 2 Euros per person. Overall, highly recommended.

The University of Aberdeen launched a free 15 minute shuttle service between Old Aberdeen & Foresterhill in September 2010.
The service is running as a six months trial linking to the two sites of the university for staff rather than students. It has three stops, Kings Lawn, St Machar Drive and Foresterhill campus.
Two Ford Transits minibuses are used on the service, NL10 BLX and NL10 BMY, both seen here.
