Taken at Myakka River State Park, Florida.

This beautiful hawk was perched just a few feet from the ground in a marshy clearing keeping a watchful look out for it's usual prey which includes small mammals, lizards, snakes, frogs, crayfish and insects.

Thank you so much for stopping by and for leaving any comments or faves, they are very much appreciated.

Steller's sea eagle (Haliaeetus pelagicus), also known as Steller's fish eagle, Pacific sea eagle or white-shouldered eagle. Often called the world’s most magnificent bird of prey, the Steller’s sea-eagle is dark, impressive, the largest of all sea-eagles, and the heaviest known eagle. San Diego Zoo,

I've never seen a Red-shouldered Hawk do what this one did today. It came down from the top of the tree, obviously with prey in its sights, right in front of a group of photographers. It then hovered right in front of us for seconds, landing on the bannister adjacent to the group, then flew back to the trees but landed upside down on a branch before taking off in embarrassment a few seconds later. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Back from our recent trip to Florida where we caught up with our friends Mark and Linda and enjoyed a few visits to the Circle B Bar Reserve.

Here are a couple of Red-shouldered Hawks taking time out in the shade during a very sunny and hot afternoon.

As always, thank you so much for stopping by and for leaving any comments or faves, they are very much appreciated.

I was besmitten by an underdeveloped photograph by Florence Henri - "Woman with Cards" - which allowed shadows to be the main (not overwhelming) driving element of her image.

I feed the birds everyday and that attracts hawks! This guy decided to sit and watch from the bluebird box.

The Virus chased me out of Florida early this year! My hope is that good health follows all of us ... and that those touched recover quickly

We spotted this Red-shouldered Hawk on our way out of the water treatment plant. Our good day ended even better than it started with the addition of this beautiful Red Shouldered Hawk. The RSH is medium-sized, with broad, rounded wings and medium-length tails that they fan out when soaring. Adults are colorful hawks with dark-and-white checkered wings and warm reddish barring on the breast. The tail is black with narrow white bands. Immatures are brown above and white below streaked with brown. All ages show narrow, pale crescents near the wingtips in flight.

This hawk was photographed at Circle B Bar Reserve, Lakeland, Florida. In my part of Florida, the red-shouldered hawk is by far the most prevalent hawk species. We have some Cooper's hawks and some red-tailed hawks and you might occasionally see a short-tailed hawk but I'd estimate that around 95% of our hawks are red-shouldered.

The tails must be the best bit because they are always the last to go down

It was great to see the pair of Black-shouldered Kites back in the Sneydes Rd area this morning. I observed them collecting nesting material again.

I will be back later to catch up - got to run for now.

Red-shouldered Hawks return to the same nesting territory year after year. One Red-shouldered Hawk occupied a territory in southern California for 16 consecutive years.

Down the hatch. Swallowing the lizard's tail.

Thanks so much for the visit!

This is the second image I managed to get of this hawk taking off into the wind against me. Sometimes you get lucky and they give you an opportunity even when conditions aren't right. Peaceful Waters Sanctuary
